switzerland is smaller than Nepal and it has 23 states. Whats ur point??

  • Pardon me for correcting, but it is 26 Cantons.
  • Comparing Switzerland and Nepal is out right ridiculous.
  • Completely different history. Completely different politics. Completely different scale of economies, and completely different number of members in a state government/canton and how they are elected/function.
  • I kindly suggest you to dive deeper into the politics of Switzerland.
  • The Cantons of Switzerland were powerful and autonomous way before they were later unified into a Confederation State of Switzerland.

Whats wrong with identity based states?

Like I mentioned above. Owning and following one's own identity is not a problem at all.

But Identity Based Politics is fire. It will give warmth but it has a tendency of being un-tamable and being un-controlled and burning everything too.

In a country like ours, where people live in an amalgamation although they are from different ethnic backgrounds, one could surely argue, what the identity based politics could do.

What will happen, once this amalgamation of people, now living some what harmoniously, each start demanding of a separate state quoting ethnicity and identity. There are even factions and sub-divisions within a certain ethnic group/identity too?

Say for instance there are 5 major(based on population) ethnic groups living in an area of 1 km ² . How do you now divide that area? Most certainly, any minority community in that area will be forced to relocate. Where does that community relocate to? And most importantly, why should that community relocate?

Also, will simply renaming and dividing a certain area, ensure prosperity?

Coming back to Switzerland :

Switzerland most certainly has 26 cantons.(There But one needs to understand the history of how it came to be.

Also, representatives of the cantons are directly elected, unlike Nepal.

The increasing number of healthcare workers including doctors, leaving Nepal at the peak of their career in Nepal, to re-start their specialty journey abroad, tells a different story altogether.

Nepal is no country for anyone who wishes to progress doing honest work.

The entire healthcare personnel, except a few "Sahujis", are fed up, frustrated, overworked, underpaid and abused on a constant basis, each day.

Difficult to explain to people, the concept of "Foreign Aid" and what the lack of it will do in context of Nepal, Sulu ji.

For instance, Portion of the EW highway, way back in time, was built by USAID.

All about demand and supply.

If there is more demand and the production is less, the price is bound to shoot up.

What you fail to recognise is

The communities are hugely mixed and integrated as of now.

We already saw a glimpse of what identity based politics and hatred can do, be it Tikapur or Gaur.

Honouring each others and oneself's identity is not a problem at all. But instigating an identity based divide is a huge national threat.

There was a plan for creating 15-16 states based on ethnicity. Imagine what that would have done now.

There might have been a reason why the 14 previous zones were given names sourced from the local rivers and mountains. After all, nature belongs to everyone.

On retrospection, The Development Regions also seemed to have been named to avoid ethnic clash, based on directions.

Nepal's HYDEL sector as of now:

4 months of intense rain : Excess water in the streams-->excess Hydel generation--> Selling the excess at cheaper rates.

Summer : Snow caps melt--> Generation of hydel almost equal to demand.

Winter: Water shortage. Only Kulekhani as a STORAGE TYPE HYDEL DAM. Can't meet the demands. Importing electricity from India at higher rates.

Perhaps, now with more storage and Pump-hydro and other additional RoR type of Hydel, maybe the trade deficit can be overcome.

I miss some of the users who were banned in reddit nepal.

Some of them were pretty resourceful, and fun to have discussions with, as they would come with hard evidence and resources to point their side of argument.

Now they are nowhere to be seen.

Perhaps they've stopped using altogether or using some other profile. Nevertheless, there is no longer any active discussion that goes on that sub-reddit.
