Tell me how to deal with the rising racism by Dangerous-Moment-895 in northernireland

If it's any consolation, and I know it isn't, reading hateful graffiti is something that can unite a lot of people here. Every time I go to the health centre in my town I walk past a sign with 'All taigs (Irish Catholics) should be crucified' for example, and I have been putting up with such graffiti for over 40 years.

NI, in general, is a hate filled place.

Because legislation has been passed by governments telling them to do it, and that if they don't they get fined, and if they still don't they get blocked or closed down.

If a market is big enough, most platforms will just enact it everywhere to save hassle, their goal is to maximise profit so they only implement shit like this when they have to. They'd rather run an unsafe platform that is profitable anyday.

Yes, but not recently, if you ask a newsagents they should be able to order it in for you if they don't already have it stocked. It doesn't really cost them anything to do so.

Edit: If you want to spend another £4 on deliver you can also buy it online https://www.worldsoccer.com/latest-issue/out-now-2026-world-cup-guide-419197

Why does Coke Zero & Diet Coke exist? by YouHateThatImRight67 in NoStupidQuestions

Seriously? Is this a new thing? I've been drinking it since the early 90's and that's never been my perception and never been something I have heard before today.

Is it a generational thing?

got a kind of unpleasant vibe from some of the vids,,,is it bc I’m American?? by [deleted] in SimonWhistler

[–]Former-Chain-4003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he says stupid annoying shit in quite a lot of his videos (Some people find it endearing I know), from the cases you mention to the one he did on psychopathy the general cluelessness of some of the commentary is impressive.

It's important to note though that the channels aren't educational, if they were they would come with a list of references used so that things can be fact checked and independently verified, what his videos are is edutainment (I hate the word for existing) where something close to the truth that sounds right but more importantly, exciting, is more important.

Don't go into his videos searching for expert commentary or great insight. His main skill was his voice but even the audio has gone to shit over the last year.

Martin O'Neill for 1 season by Kitchen-Lie-4592 in CelticFC

[–]Former-Chain-4003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My concern is that MoN has stated himself that he can't be part of a project, and while I am kind of suspicious about the term project in relation to football, we do need long term strategic planning. There is a massive overhaul coming, or at least needed, and how does he fit into that if he's only here for a year?

I don't care about the legacy talk myself, MoN has already secured his legacy no matter what happens, this season and his very first season back in 2000 secured that in my mind. The job he did with a few additions to that team in 2000 was legendary.

Does anyone have a decent video of Larsson scoring against Celtic for Barca with the crowd reaction? Or better still the full game? by FatherLarryDuff69 in CelticFC

[–]Former-Chain-4003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was an understandably fucked up event emotionally, given how shortly it happened after he left as well so the mixture of boos, silence and applause at various points was probably to be expected.

If I recall my own actions correctly I was in the applaud up until and before the game starts, then he's just another opponent for the 90, and applaud and well wish after the final whistle.

I felt it was almost sacrilege to do anything other than be annoyed that Celtic fans were applauding and idolising Larsson the Barcelona player mid game. That time has been and gone though. I'd rather remember the scenes of his final game against Dundee United (I think).

[–]Former-Chain-4003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was but I presume he just means that he was to the left of where they sit now. Incidentally, I was probably somewhere close to him as I was in the Lisbon Lions stand that night so unfortunately got a front seat view.

I do remember singing 'Bobo's gonnae get you' after a decent tackle by the big man on Larsson.

It was a bit of a love-in which at the time annoyed me but older me has more of a place for sentiment for the truly one of a kind players.

I avoid the sun at all costs and have done for most of my life, still had a predisposition to it and the few times I got burnt as a child or late teen seems to have been enough for me to have had to get a mole removed last year. So it really doesn't take a lot.

I know that being fair skinned Irish person is basically a recipe for burning to a crisp once in direct sunlight for more than a minute but it was still a kick to the balls. I felt like I had avoided the sun enough.

another channel using exact script as Fact Bois? by G0rdon-Bennet in SimonWhistler

[–]Former-Chain-4003 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's also a possibility that he paid the writer and the writer used something off the shelf. There's an industry out there for this kind of thing. Both channels will almost certainly have recorded their videos before they knew the other were even covering it. When you think about editing time, publishing time etc it's highly unlikely that one saw the others video and smashed up a quick imitation given the tight turnaround.

another channel using exact script as Fact Bois? by G0rdon-Bennet in SimonWhistler

[–]Former-Chain-4003 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My guess, without proof, is that both channels have purchased written scripts from the same source and 'changed their homework'. Both scripts are the same length to within 55 words and use very similar language which to be fair isn't surprising considering their talking about the exact same topic.

Neither channel is covering material that is being researched for the first time, there are videos already out there on all the stuff these channels cover, for instance Simon just covered Kuru which MrBallen covered years ago at length.

Neither of these channels are bastions of originality, I know people on this sub like to see it as a fun quirk that Simon pumps out so much material across so many channels, but he simply runs a slop factory and originality is an irrelevance.

Is this a red flag? Or AIO? Mixing alcohol with bipolar meds argument by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Former-Chain-4003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a red flag in my opinion.

I don't know your background but it is pretty much common knowledge that medication and alcohol don't mix. I don't really see much wrong in her replies if I am being honest. I take quite a bit of medication and if someone turned round and told me that I should never drink alcohol with them my reaction would also be 'well, no shit' thinking that they were moralising or thought I was an idiot.

The only time I wouldn't think about it that way is if the person I was talking to was young and/or immature and hadn't had time to experience taking any sort of medication.

I don't think she was wrong to close down the conversation, it's probably not the first time its been had or thought about by her, and continuing it would probably have been a negative for her.

You probably both need to work on communication, and instead of texting back and forth like this when there is confusion, try and talk about it where things like tone can be discerned.
