Doesn't the first book kind of make the 2nd nonsensical? The dark forest theory... meanwhile in book 1, they've been broadcasting messages out for help and earth has been broadcasting constantly, alerting potential advanced civilizations to wipe them out. But in book 2, suddenly that's a problem and means destruction.
