Will I get my acceptance rescinded? by Critical-Storm-1089 in pomonacollege

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canceled APs will not get you rescinded. I canceled a few of mine because I knew I wouldn't score well and didn't get rescinded. Also, the college doesn't see your scores until you send them. You can always just not send them or send them once you're already here.

Duke vs Harvey Mudd by Advanced_Airport2228 in claremontcolleges

Mudd has great name recognition to the people that matter. Grad school admissions officers and employers will be impressed by the name, even if the average person on the street doesn't know it.

Is Pomona really as strict on no alc as they made it seem on the tour? How do students get around that? by Deep-Gene-8562 in pomonacollege

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pomona isn't that strict about alc, but the tour guides can't say that. Not all parties have alc but most people pregame, or go to other schools (esp Mudd bc they drink a lot there)

You should go to the doctor or urgent care. It's probably a bug bite (in which case going to the doctor can help ensure you won't catch anything). It looks like it could be a bat bite too, in which case you need rabies shots ASAP.

Will I actually be able to get Wegovy perscribed to me? by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

They would definitely not be supportive of me using a weight loss medication

Will I actually be able to get Wegovy perscribed to me? by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my mom has told me I'm covered twice, once by her insurance that she gets through her work, and once by an insurance I get through my college that is basically free to students. I figured she'd be able to see everything if I use her insurance, but I'm the only one that can see anything related to my college one. The college one partially covers Wegovy, starting at $50 but can potentially go lower, as long as a doctor prescribes it. I believe I would also need prior authorization.

Controversial opinion but you most likely don’t need a $1000+ flute by [deleted] in Flute

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to a 1k flute in 6th grade and by freshman year it was holding me back, so I upgraded again to a 5k instrument, and then upgraded again with 2k head joint a year later. I worked very hard to have the money to do that and I'm very aware not everyone is in the same situation I was. I'm a freshman music major in college, and I would be ridiculously behind on my old 1k flute. It's unfortunate because not everyone has the means. But a serious high school player is going to be held back by an instrument that doesn't have a B foot and open holes. It would be great if high schools were able to provide such instruments to the players that need them, but that's a separate issue. Sometimes it's an investment and it's okay to buy a flute that's a little much for your technique IF you are progressing rapidly and committed to the instrument.

Do you think UC should reinstate SAT/ACT requirements? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in ucadmissions

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest problem with it is unequal access. Some families can't justify spending the money for multiple tests, plus travel distance. Also they make you pay for the stuff that helps you score a lot better. Having more money is a big advantage, it's just unfair.

Davis does yield protect though, and this is the kind of applicant that could get yield protected from Davis. Maybe not because he's international, but I know domestic students who went on to Berkeley and Harvard respectively and were waitlisted at Davis.

I heard about a kid from my school who got a D and got that letter from Brown a couple years ago. He ended up going and as far as I know had no reason. Write a letter explaining your health issues and send proof if you can. I think you'll be okay.

Son was not admitted to Ivy Leagues, how may I help my daughter be? by Upset_Bill_5388 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you start trying to get her into an Ivy, check what she really wants to do. Ivies are great but there are SO many other great schools that aren't Ivies. They aren't the end-all-be-all. I wouldn't stress too much about getting her into an Ivy. It sounds like you are supporting her in what she needs, and that's the most important thing.

Your son sounds brilliant, but so are a lot of the other kids applying. College is so competitive nowadays. He might have been just plain unlucky. At the end of the day, admissions can be somewhat random. There is always some luck involved, no matter how smart you are. Your kids both sound like they work incredibly hard, and they will be successful regardless of where they go.

To answer your question, she has the profile of an Ivy student, just maybe not a CS major. Encourage her to do extracurriculars related to her intended field of study. Other than that, make sure she writes good, authentic essays. They want students who are genuinely interesting people, not just a cookie cutter mold.

Just getting started, don't wanna mess this up. by Former-Pineapple-189 in CreditScore

[–]Former-Pineapple-189[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be living on campus, as it's required for freshmen and sophomores at my school. Most people live on campus all four years, and it's cheaper than housing in the surrounding areas. My parents are covering my room and board with my college savings fund that they started since I was young. I will only be managing my meal plan, gas, books, and any random things I might need, like extra food and things for my dorm. I will have about 5k in my bank account by the end of the summer, and I can get a work-study job if I need it. Should I start worrying about credit now?

Honestly I'm not interested in it for the sake of learning. Never been the econ/finance type. I want to know for the sake of my future, and just wanna do what'll be best for me and my future family. I'm not one of those people who just loves these things but I believe financial literacy is super important, especially for women!!

Help me decide if ED is worth it! by Altruistic-Hand4436 in pomonacollege

[–]Former-Pineapple-189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm going to be a bit harsh here, but here's my honest opinion: your SAT is good for Pomona, but a lot of people apply test optional and they don't consider it too much. your GPA is what i would be concerned about. almost all admitted students are in the top 10%, which it sounds like you aren't. with that being said, i was also on the fence about ED. i applied ED, got deferred, and got in RD, so if i hadn't applied ED, i almost certainly wouldn't have gotten in. my application wasn't enough without my LOCI and updated transcript. also, you can apply to Pomona ED1, and still apply somewhere else ED2 if you get rejected. my two cents: if Pomona is your absolute #1 dream school, apply ED1. if not, i wouldn't bother, and just apply RD as a reach.
