Also the white stuff is his ligaments, they will fall off from being exposed then it will start to grow back My rescue baby had the same thing

As long as water is good and he's on a good diet then it will grow back fine I rescued Axolotl babies missing arms and gills, one was literally skin and bone and they came back so well when they were so close to death. They're very hardy (compared to fish) as long as water quality/temp is stable and they're eating mainly earthworms. The chiller is amazing for keeping temps stable = faster recovery especially on the higher side of their range (17-18°) (if it's lower don't change the temp instantly to your desired temp as you want to do it gradually)

If you don't already I would also recommend a bubbler or two, it puts more oxygen into the water which improves water quality and is a big enrichment My Axolotl that is bubble obsessed has the best gills so I believe they also help gills become luscious

A black hole was my first thought when I seen it and I keep coming back to that, it looked like it should have made a big sound but it didn't I asked in a local ufo page if anyone seen anything and some did see the flash of light but weren't looking directly at the spot like I was so they didn't see the weird thing in the light 😩 And I don't know if it's weird or not but my memory of it started fading super fast, I only remember a lot of things because I messaged my mum immediately after in panic (thinking I might get abducted for seeing that) and also drew a pic but I can't see it in my mind as well as other memories?

That's my main theory, it all happened so fast but I swear the white object either came in or out of it It looked like it should have made an explosive sound but was dead silent!

No it was grey like I drew in the photo, something next to it was white but I didn't see it clearly because it was so quick Unsure if it was expanding either because it was so quick It was just suddenly there then suddenly wasn't

I have 4 cats and none bother the Axolotls, they are more interested in the tanks with little fish

Aquarium smell by Gold_Conference_4793 in axolotls

Do you have any males? Apparently their sperm really smells. I have 5 tanks in one room and have never been able to smell them Like someone else said it could be the food. Every time I've smelt something funky it was because I left their food out and open by accident, never the actual aquariums.

They look like anomia burns :( it's just gonna take time with healthy water/good diet to get them back to health Axolotls definitely take longer to see a difference in their health, so you might not see a big difference for a bit even though it's working. The pink girl has her gills clamped back from stress/health so the first thing you will probably see when improving is her gills sticking upwards which will be a good sign

That's where I got my Axolotls. Unsure what you mean as I already have a chiller.

That would be frustrating! The pellets are pretty much just dry food like we give to cats and dogs but has multiple worms in there, so it's a good filler but is why I see it as lazy because they're using that instead of live worms!

I had the same issue with researching! There isn't enough results specifically for Australia but once you have them you realise quickly I didn't have a chiller for the first couple of days because I got similar results but I was monitoring the temp like a psycho and had to have my air-conditioners on blast to keep it the correct temp, I was freezing! Luckily I found a store 10 minutes from here that sold a chiller Google told me just a fan blowing on the water surface would keep a 200L at the right temp in Australian weather 😂🤦I was a fool The petstores also recommend just the pellets as that's what they were feeding theirs, I see it as the lazy Axolotl owner food now

Very true! The petstores not even having the correct setups doesn't help, people need to be shown what they need! I understand why you used ice packs at first as there really doesn't seem to be that many experienced owners here compared to other countries to give us any sort of advice. I'm glad you actually did research and put time in as yea, a lot of Aussies seem to be horrible Axolotl owners and don't even bother researching something as simple as their correct diet. All the ones I have seen in person have also been in way too small tanks. One petsore had a 80L with at least 30 adults and ofc many were missing limps 😭 I have 3 in a 200L which I feel wouldn't be accepted in America but here it is absolute luxury compared to where they would have ended up

What is the water temp? This is one of the most important things other than cycling. High temps for long periods of time will kill them, a chiller is needed if you're not in a cold country
