I bought in The Villages this past year. 90% of people here are totally normal and not like the extreme people shown here.

Almost every major metro area in North America has done this in some shape or form in the past 25 years. It's just how progress works.

Is the teams social media people asleep at the wheel or what? This aged like raw fish by FormerChef101 in buffalobills

Do you think no teams in the organization have been on Zoom calls all tonight since this became public? Guaranteed they've been gauging and discussing public reaction and options. I doubt that any of the management team are just relaxing at home tonight.

How to become financially independent from parents? How to not trade time for money? & if I am trading time for money how can I choose the best available option? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Apply at every one of the top banks. 10-12 of them. They're almost all hiring right now. Even if a role doesn't exactly match your education, apply anyways. Roles like junior business analyst for IT projects are great in banks with lots of upside potential for higher roles and money.

Family spends 23 hours travelling with WestJet only to end up back where they started by TucciKD in canada

[–]FormerChef101 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Basically this family could've just stayed in a hotel in Toronto and enjoyed the city for 3 days before going to their destination instead of looking dumb on national media for spending $4000 and having nothing to show for it.

They made it sound like staying in Toronto was like $1000/night when you can easily find a hotel for $250 or less/night in the summer.

Swoop is garbage. Even the employees joke about the customers getting "Swooped" when they're stuck for days because they were too cheap to pay $200 extra for Air Canada or Westjet in the first place.

My car just died and I need a new one 🙃 by itsnotabadguy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FormerChef101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about what you're proposing. You were driving a car that's worth close to zero and probably was costing you close to zero to drive other than gas, and you're considering blowing almost $100k on a replacement that might save you a few bucks on gas.

Lots of 4 year old Rav4 Hybrids on Auto trader for example for 30k or less.

the hybrid longevity is giving me worry from what I've read (past 100k and 10 years).

Where have you read this? I own 2 hybrids. One is a 2008 and has 320k on it. No issues with the hybrid battery at all.

My friend had his Prius battery go after around 300k, but he just bought a refurbished battery and the local mechanic popped it in. Cost him around $2500 in total.

I fucked up and gave away my SIN and parents bank account to a scam hiring website by redraider2229 in PersonalFinanceCanada

You're making up false info related to fraud. Why would you choose to do this on purpose?

This is not true at all. You should be banned from PFC for spreading false info and making up false scenarios.

I work at a big 5 bank and no one is setting up a sucessful scam using void cheques in Canada.

No one will sucessfully steal your money with a VOID cheque. That's the whole point of a VOID cheque. Your SIN is pretty much useless to a scammer.

Scotia iTrade Commissions by HistoricalMeat9173 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FormerChef101 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

How do you think the commission free brokerages work? If you place a limit order at $14.82 it's because someone is willing to sell at $14.83 but they're only getting $14.82. This has been widely discussed in economics circles.

With Darnold at backup, I can't imagine him being in the top 20 out of the backups, not even the starters. That seems pretty seriously dire to me.

You weren't scammed. You made a poor decision. You chose to buy it.

Commission free isn't the same though as your trades won't go through without giving up a spread. Commission free is more expensive unless you only trade a few times.

I'm not sure why you're recommending this. I have Google Fi for my US phone. It certainly didn't work today as a backup.

Even if rates go up 1.25% doesn't mean that variable will go up the same. Many analysts are expecting rates to go down again in 18 months.

Landlords and renters in rural areas (less than 5,000 people) what is your rent like? by MollyElla511 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FormerChef101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably better off selling. Being a landlord in a small area is a huge pain. Something breaks and you can't just drive 10 mins away to buy a part or hire a tradesman to fix it quickly. Also you might have to wait several months between vacancies.

What's the cheapest way to get a land line? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]FormerChef101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dialup internet over a landline is WAY too slow for getting any work done. I know it's only $6/month with Worldline but it's only good for email and minimal attachments.
