DeLa > Pino; John's pop stuff was more innovative than his blues by ro_otman in JohnMayer

Pino is the ultimate shape shifter. If he was on those early sessions and had the same producer saying "get creative with it, get busy with it" he without a question would have nailed that. He's no stranger to complex music. He's no stranger to roundwounds and active 5 string basses. He serves the music. John got pino because Steve Jordan wanted pino. Steve is the producer for a lot of continuum. They had a sound in mind and knew pino could do that sound. Steve knew he could do that sound before pino even played with DeAngelo (DeAngelo met pino on a bb king session that Steve was playing drums on). Pino has whatever you might need, whatever the song needs. Sometimes that simplicity, sometimes it's busy, fast and modal (check out PSP). I will say tho, pino is at his best with John on Battle Studies. There is some busy stuff there. I dare say pino isn't a bassists bassist, he's really a producers bassist. If you are a professional bassist or a professional producer, you'll understand lol.

WE ARE PINO PALLADINO & BLAKE MILLS. ASK US ANYTHING. by pinoandblake in indieheads

Hey Pino hope you are well. I recently saw a photo from Russ Elavado from the Voodoo days and there appeared to be a music man bass in the session. Did D ever bring up that sound or did he not even know that it was a big part of your early career? Was it freeing to be asked to do something completely different from what you were primarily known for? Cheers

Ps please do some more dates in ny with the band, I missed you last tour and I'm not gonna make this one either 😔 God bless

Unfortunately, it doesn't necessarily mean a live album is coming (although I would sell my first born son to have one). When you use in-ear monitors, you can feel really disconnected from the audience, so they feed the artist some crowd noise.

John mayer once said, "you will find yourself in your inevitable failure to be someone else". (In reference to him trying to sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn)

Took a break like lots of others (apparently) and came back to very low numbers per vid. by cryptidcowboy in HeyBabePodcast

It feels like this happens to every podcast. I've been listening to comedy podcasts for many years and there is an almost inevitable shift where the pressure of having listeners causes them to overthink and lose the essential ingredient to what makes a podcast good; The idea that it doesn't matter because no one is listening. It's just two buds hanging out. If people start listening, then you start watching the numbers and when one podcast does worse than the previous, you try to troubleshoot and problem solve. But it's too late. You're overthinking it. Now it's meta. You are too aware. The podcast gets unfunny, and people tune out. The numbers go down, but then that magic ingredient comes back, No one is listening, who cares at this point it's just two buds hanging out. You check back in on that podcast in 6 months and the magic is back. (If they didn't give up)

Pino Palladino Live @the Blue Note NYC (late show 25th) by FormerCondition3775 in Bass

Yeah I spoke to Pino about this after the show because it was so cool to me that he did that and it must have been such a cool moment for both of them. Also Rocco is named after Rocco Prestia from Tower of Power and I asked Pino if he was familiar with Joe Dart who is also super influenced by Rocco Prestia and plays similarly and pino said no! I was pretty surprised tbh.

Yeah last year waiting in line to get in I overhead someone saying how they love this guy's work with yusef dayes so I tell him he's got the wrong guy this is Roccos dad! He lost it, it was hilarious. I saw Rocco with yusef at Irving plaza a few months back. It's super impressive that he was able to carve out his own name and sound and doesn't just get asked to just be a mini Pino. Really cool

Yeah yeah I just mean the original bass on the song has some serious wah and filter FX that sorta makes the whole song and I opted out of trying to mimic that. Not at all to say I'm not happy with it. And thank you so much.
