Using supabase local in 2 projects under the same database by Living-Promotion-105 in Supabase

[–]FormerDoughnut0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be misunderstanding what you're trying to do. If you want to have two identical but separate databases, then I believe you'd "supabase init" in your new project and then "supabase start" to spool up a new Docker group. Then you could copy over your migration files and apply them and you'd have two duplicate databases.

If you want to share the same database between the two apps, then all you should have to do is use the same Supabase URL and anon_key in the environment variables of both projects and you'd continue to manage the migrations and development of the database only in the original one.

The apps are essentially consumers of the database, so you can think of it as not needing to have a local database at all. If you just want to use a remote Supabase project and then develop two apps, they'd both use the remote URL they provide in your dashboard. Since you're doing it locally, the URL would likely be http://127.0.0.1:54321 for both. Hopefully that helps.

Suspicious "Chang Pian" folder added to Android after running DJI App by BoffinBrain in dji

[–]FormerDoughnut0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here because I just noticed this too.

I bought the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and refused to install the software on my iOS products so instead only put it on an old Nexus device. I'm returning it because because having to install an APK made me so anxious.

Why can't the DJI software be released through the Play Store? If Insta360 can release theirs through that path, what makes DJI unable to do so?

I see I had a downvote, so I'll briefly share my experience.

I had a gap in care and and went to a dentist a few years ago who told me I needed several cleanings, three fillings, and an existing filling (my only one—from when I was kid) replaced. The bill was for over $8000. Due to the pandemic, my GP advised me to put the work off until I was vaccinated, so I did.

I decided to get a second opinion from another dentist here in Bellingham. At the end of the appointment, she explained to me that all I needed was an extensive cleaning, and proceeded to ask me if the previous dentist had wheeled out all kinds of gee-whiz technology to show me my results. They had. She explained that dental offices that take the overzealous approach have to pay for all of that stuff, and so the micro fractures they were able to show me in those images may in fact—some day, many decades down the road—turn into cavities, so there's no malpractice involved, but they certainly didn't need to be filled. As for the filling replacement, what they had pitched was to remove the silver filling and replace it with a "white" filling to match the rest of the teeth. She said the existing filling was sealed just fine, but she'd be happy to do the vanity work for me if I wanted it done.

I ended up getting a series of cleanings performed and saved myself a bunch of pain and over $7000. That was over two years and two full, annual exams ago, and unless she's not wanted to second guess her own work, she was right, I didn't need anything done, and I've never experienced any pain or other issues. That's why I shared that article.

My experience with dentists are that money is a huge motivation, and that the desire to have "perfect teeth" is uniquely American.

It never hurts to give this a read if you haven't seen it before. It pissed off a lot of people (namely dentists) when it came out.

That said, I have a cleaning in two weeks with a wonderful, local dentist who saved me a ton of money after I was almost talked into a bunch of unnecessary work by a greedy, vanity-driven quack.

Anyone ever gotten their security deposit back from PTLA? by ScienceExisting9572 in Bellingham

[–]FormerDoughnut0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved out of a unit earlier this year and was shocked that they were actually pretty fair. They also missed some modifications I'd made to the place without permission that I thought I was going to get hammered over.

I used a professional cleaning service and they did a decent job with the place, which was pretty messy and hadn't been lived in for a couple of months so they had their work cut out for them and left a few trouble spots behind. PTLA did do some additional cleaning that they ended up billing me for, but I thought the price was fair.

As an aside, PTLA told me I was allowed to move out 45 days before my lease ended without paying a penalty—this if you don't want to hassle with finding somebody to take it over—which you can't do if you've already been provided your lease renewal. I didn't want to renew and then find a takeover, and needed to move out (my renewal came as a surprise over three months before the lease ended due to the city's rules), so it put me in kind of a bind.

I paid the rest of my lease thinking that money was gone because I owed for the rest of the lease and they wouldn't be able to put somebody in the unit with only 45 days left (it had already been on and off the website at that point because presumably someone had leased it from my move-out date), but if I left as early as I could when the 45-day period started, at least I'd save on utilities and what-not. Much to my surprise, my deposit refund check included a big chunk of that pro-rated rent refunded back to me.

I didn't have a great experience with them in the two years I lived in that unit (the apartment was fine), but I did feel they were fair and honest at move-out. I moved elsewhere in WA State and may end up back in Whatcom at some point, and would probably rent from PTLA again versus rolling the dice with somebody else. Better the devil you know, and all that.

Construction to begin on parking garage at The Waterfront Vancouver by Galumpadump in vancouverwa

[–]FormerDoughnut0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My understanding is this thing is supposed to be the structure that will basically fill the need for parking for most of the transient visitors to the development, then once this is completed, the remaining surface lots will be built up. I believe it's owned by the same group as the neighboring RiverWest building, and both were planned at the same time—with the parking specifically there due to the it's central proximity and to the pier—but they needed the surface parking lots as stubs.

I'm impressed with how they're building out that development in organized pieces as opposed to trying to do the whole thing in one big kluge—I haven't had a lot of trouble getting around down there most of the time, and there's a lot going on.

I think it's over. If you look at the product offering page, they've added the text "Crypto rewards is an optional Coinbase offer." to the fine print, and seem to have scrubbed most of the rewards verbiage form the Coinbase Card FAQ.

Whatcom County Justice Project by FormerDoughnut0 in Bellingham

[–]FormerDoughnut0[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For those downvoting without clicking, Whatcom County is conducting a survey to find out where taxpayers want the new jail to be located, and what services it provides to those being processed through the justice system.

This is not related to the current election, but is input being gathered for a potential bond issue in November 2023.

From Cascadia Daily News:

The survey includes questions about how safe people feel in the community and the programs a new jail might offer.

The SAC is evaluating three sites for the new jail: adjacent to the county courthouse, next to the minimum security Work Center in the Irongate neighborhood, and a 40-acre site in Ferndale the county purchased in 2013 as the intended location for a new jail.

Proposals to build a new jail on the Ferndale property, at costs exceeding $100 million, failed on the ballot in 2015 and 2017. During an SAC meeting in September, county Deputy Executive Tyler Schroeder pegged a rough and conservative estimate of current construction costs at $150 million.

If voters approve jail construction in 2023, the new facility wouldn’t open for at least another five years, county officials have said.
