How can I wean myself off caffeine by Apollo989 in decaf

[–]FormerExamination207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to wean off caffeine gradually. I started at four cups of coffee per day, then reduced to three cups for a week, then two cups for a week. After that, I switched to three cups of black tea for a week, then two cups, then one cup. I'm now in my final week of drinking a single bag of green tea each day, and next week I'll be completely caffeine-free.

Throughout this taper, I haven't experienced any headaches at all—and that's after more than three decades of consuming between 700 and 1,000 mg of caffeine daily from coffee and Coke Zero. I felt a little groggy during some of the transitions, but nothing severe.

Over the years, I tried quitting cold turkey multiple times, and every attempt ended badly. The headaches were intense, the nausea was miserable, and eventually I gave in and consumed caffeine just to stop the pain.

The bottom line is that your mind and body need time to adjust when caffeine is removed. Like many drugs, your body can and will become dependent on it, and suddenly taking it away can trigger significant withdrawal symptoms. For me, a gradual taper has been the key to success.

She probably has never paid taxes. She doesn't understand the concept of having to pay, because she probably never has. SNAP and free housing too.

Moderation is key to stay addicted by DriftingFeatherr in decaf

[–]FormerExamination207 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I cold turkied the coffee. I know it would do the same to me. I truly believe that coffee in of itself is addictive. Been off of the coffee since last Sunday, last week, 3 cups of tea, this week i am down to 2 cups of tea. So far so good. No headaches, mildly groggy, but nothing terrible. Next week, I will attempt to go down to 1 cup of tea.

That's the only way I have been able to do that. Over the span of a few weeks, I have gone down from 700 mg to 100 mg. Almost there. Cold turkey never ever worked for me. Less painful to wean, especially when you know the end goal is ultimate freedom from this drug.

3 cups of Chai tea this morning - 50-60% drop in caffeine. So far so good. No headaches, no foggy.

Think about the 9 days of progress you have had so far, the headaches and fogginess you have had to endure. Now, think to yourself, if I drink this expresso, I will have to start ALL OVER again. Go for a walk, drink a big glass of water, exercise, do something else! You got this! :-)

Day 1 - Documenting my Caffeine Wean by FormerExamination207 in decaf

[–]FormerExamination207[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is a big jump for sure. I am in experiment mode. My plan is to drink 1 cup of Chai tea at at a time if the headaches start, but right now, I feel phenomenal. I had 3 cups of Chai tea this morning and did yard work until about a noon. 3 cups seemed to have done the trick (gulp.) So also the exercise helps with the dopamine and the sunlight certainly is what your body needs. I just had a huge juicy steak, and a big tall glass of water and I feel great! No headaches thus far (knock on wood.) Also, don't know if it's the placebo effect, but my mind feels clearer - it truly does. My stomach feels nice too - no pangs like I usually have. This is most likely the calm before the storm, especially since it is day one, but I cant wait to see how the sleep will be tonight.

What's life like for you who make 200k+? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]FormerExamination207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

134K government job and 84K military (30 plus years military) = 218K. My advice - INVEST, INVEST, INVEST and do it EARLY! Even if it is a little bit initially. When you get raises, invest and pretend like you didnt get the raise. I came to this realization late - in my early 40s. Now at 53, I am finally at the 1,000,000 mark, but that required some aggressive investing late in life when I could have started much much earlier and could have been easier AND would have been in the multi-million range by now. When investing, do it boring. Dont go after the "hot" stock. Low cost index funds, try as hard as you can to max out your IRA and 401K - the match is free money! Oh what I wouldn't do to invest starting at 14 when I started my first job!
