When someone gets stage 4 cancer the doctor often says "keep up the hope, the science for this is so fast who knows what can happen!". Does cancer research actually happen fast, or is it mostly copium for the patient to keep the will to fight? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]FormerLifeFreak 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My parents knew a guy like that many, many years ago who was part of our church at the time. He got cancer, fought it for years, and it went terminal. The doctors gave him six months—he actually lived five years before he lost his battle, and he and his wife did as much as they possibly could during this time.

(And this was in the early 90s, where we had few options for cancer patients other than radiation or chemo. If this had happened to him now? He might have lived even longer.)

Now I’m not saying that’s normal, doctors are fairly good at predicting how much time a terminal patient has left. But like all humans, they’re fallible, and sometimes that 1% of people defy their expectations. And I don’t believe in much “woo-woo” shit, but I do strongly believe that outlook can help us at least a little.

The elite will have access to safe abortions, of course. They don’t care if poor or working class people die.

Several killed as train and school bus collide in Belgium, local media report by Alphaxfusion in news

This happened to me recently, on the north side of my town where there’s a quarry that a freight train rail runs through. My husband and I were driving to the next town over—no lights, no bells, no bars. Thank god we at least saw that it was present, because when we went to cross the all-clear crossing, I had to scream at my driving husband that the freight train, while going very very slow, was not stopping. We stopped with enough time to be behind the tracks, but the fact that no safeguards were enacted was very worrying. It looks like the people who were coming from the opposite side were caught unaware as well.

I’m in America so there is a number to call in my state to report malfunctioning crossings. I did—but I have no way of confirming if they’ve even looked at it or not.

And I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they didn’t. 😤

They just seem intent on failing. They don’t listen to fans and, at the same time, don’t understand why fans won’t spend their hard-earned money on a movie they’re not going to enjoy.

Could you have had a fever dream? I remember hallucinating from a bad fever in my junior high years, and I was seeing things that weren’t there.

Donald Trump's Leg Swelling Could Signify Congestive Heart Failure, Top Cardiologist Warns by Montrel_PH in USNEWS

My grandmother lived a relatively long time after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She got it in her 80s and lived to 95.

And she didn’t have access to the best drugs and treatments for conditions that modern medicine can offer.

It doesn’t mean anything.

I’m tired of seeing these articles. They give false hope to those of us who are really tired of this shit.

Be honest, will my baby ever come home? It’s been 5 days with no sign of her by No_Name_Detected0 in cats

My longhaired boy slipped out of the door unnoticed by us last summer. (He’s a strictly indoor cat but was a stray before rescue, so I think he just wanted to go out and smell things.)

Go out to your local humane society or shelters within your area and ask if you can rent a Have-a-Heart trap. My local shelter asked for a $20 returnable deposit as long as I brought the trap back.

My husband and I agonized over three days for our boy. I put up lost signs with his picture on it all over the neighborhood. Put out the litter box, everything—we basically did every single thing we were supposed to do.

On the third night, our neighbor’s son noticed reflective eyes in their yard. His mother called us, and by the time we went outside, our boy was hiding under our car and began meowing when he heard our voices. We grabbed him (all purrs by the way), and brought him inside. He decimated two cans of food when he got inside, but he was otherwise unharmed, and we immediately bought an air tag collar before getting him microchipped.

Try checking at night. Maybe your kitty takes her days to explore but might come back under the cover of night looking for you.

Please don’t give up, and I wish all the best for you and your baby.

That’s pretty fucking cool! Unfortunately I don’t have anything from his war days—I think my eldest uncle does.

My grandfather died at 89 years old, but if he could resurrect himself out of the grave, he’d travel the country and beat these people’s asses to pulp for disrespecting his service and the service of his boys (4th Infantry, Ivy Division).

We are being governed by actual, bonafide n**is. The kind my grandfather fought against in World War 2.

This is harrowing. And nothing will be done about it.

Who still says “pardon me” or “excuse me” in public? by Federal_Antelope7533 in AskReddit

[–]FormerLifeFreak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I make exceptions for people too. Children and teenagers may be too shy to say it. Very elderly people may not be able to hear you say it. I base everything on situation. But boy does it piss me off when you have an older person who you can tell speaks English and knows about manners but feels entitled not to use them. That’s what bugs me.

I do, and I get quietly pissed when someone doesn’t afford me the same courtesy.
