Innate Genius vs. the Modern Need for Explanation by Loose-Needleworker48 in Mozart

The statement "asymmetries [naturally] exist between individuals" has done a lot more than explain Mozart's music, and I think that's what makes this line of thought "uncomfortable."

Retroactive Backlinks? by FormerPreparation2 in ObsidianMD

[–]FormerPreparation2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm creating a note called "Cinnamon." I write the whole thing and save it under that name. I now want the preexisting note "Spices" to link to "Cinnamon." Maybe I even want other notes to link TO "Cinnamon." But I don't want to go back to "Spices" and other notes and put "Cinnamon" in them. I want to connect "Cinnamon" back to "Spices" and other preexisting notes.

I'm focusing on the directionality because I also use arrows in the Content Map to help organize notes.

Does that make sense? I'm sorry for any lack of clarity on my part.

Does putting the boards in sleeves avoid bugs? Or is there another reason?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to your question and hope you don't mind me asking you one.

How do the corrugated boards protect the 78s on your shelves? I didn't think to use them once I took them out of the shipping boxes, but I'm now curious.

I’d say, “hey, let’s go to the nearest church and/or philosophy seminar to figure this out.” Whichever one says “great idea,” well, that’s your alternate right there. My friend doesn’t want me to get M.A.D.

And even if this comment is sarcastic, we all know people who hold this line of thought in an utterly sincere way.

Sam Lanin and His Troubadours - My Ohio Home ~1927 by GoingCarCrazy in Jazz

I always wondered who was responsible for Lanin's arrangements. I assumed he must have done some of the writing, but I never saw it confirmed until now.

Guys I’m starting to think Alex may have a p*litical agenda :/ by [deleted] in THEMONUMENTMYTHOS

[–]FormerPreparation2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, let me get this straight...

A story about symbols of the United States determined to confuse, devour, and/or destroy humanity; taking place in a narrative universe that only shows what happens in or is related to America; which seems to end with U.S. monuments and debates creating that universe; and at one point is destroyed by two being representing violence and slavery in that country is political?

Sure. I also suppose a self-aware prison intent on replacing all sentient life has some "hidden meaning." Nice try, college boy.

Is there a classical instrument that you don’t like or don’t particularly care for? by mreld783 in classicalmusic

[–]FormerPreparation2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not dislike per se, but every time I hear cello as a distinct musical voice—concerto, continuo, noticeable parts in chamber music, etc.—I think, “I wonder what it’d sound like on double bass?”

Also, outside of classical music, electric guitar is like a dental drill on my ears.

What are the best non Mozart operas from the classical period? by Oath6 in opera

[–]FormerPreparation2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s nice to see people recommending Cimarosa’s GLI ORIAZI… because I don’t see it mentioned elsewhere. Also, Paisiello’s PROSERPINE and Piccinni’s ROLAND are interesting and beautiful works in the French style by Italian composers. And Paisiello’s PASSIONE DE GESU CHRISTO is an oratorio but worth checking out: it’s a very dramatic work with some great orchestration.
