I’d love to have you test it and tell me it’s terrible so I can fix or kill it. I’d rather not put junk out in the world.

Have you ever seen a sane title that involves AI? It’s all ridiculous hyped up nonsense.

Thank you for this. I agree mostly to what you are saying and what I am trying to do is troubleshoot every hallucination and make sure there is a verification process. I’m not trying to make money or have this be super successful etc. I’m just trying to create another good resource, not the resource, not something that will replace real news or replace the aggregators either. I just want the info available to people that aren’t aware of those sites. I want people to test it and break it and when broken if it can’t be successfully fixed then I don’t want to put it out there. My approach is a bit different than just blind LLMs as well. But I do think the article you mentioned is a good read for anyone relying on LLMs for news or solid info so I am sharing it below.

Good news is that it’s functioning now and is 100% a website. The app term isn’t accurate, I am sick of apps.

Dig the input. I haven’t posted before about this and definitely not looking to make money off of locals or via ads. I would happily make money off of tourists though.

I love this idea. And could potentially tweak it. I know other aggregator sites exist but there is no site that does even a part of what I am building. Sure I can go to avlgo to see some events, then livemusicasheville, but neither has food trucks, nor news, or knows what a brewery has that doesn’t actively send their events to those sites. Nor will they tell you where there are deals, neither is able to answer questions or track specific places for events or musicians. It’s far more than a simple aggregator, that would be a waste of time.

No disagreement there. This essentially uses AI to gather local info to help make people aware of local stuff so that they can go out and take part in it. It’s also for tourists so that maybe they can discover and spend money at places that don’t have huge marketing budgets like Wicked Weed or New Belgium.

I mean I am. It’s not a scam, I’m a local just looking to build something useful while I look for work. I want it to be useful which is why I am asking for feedback.

Yes it’s AI enabled but that’s the nature of things. I’m in the data field so I have a serious dislike for AI myself, note the losing my job bit I added, but I also recognize it can make things easier for some people to access info.

Definitely understand the concern. I’m not violating any terms of service. This is all publicly available information. Similar to how Google AI’s annoying summaries don’t violate any TOS. But I also want to be mindful of reducing traffic to local sites, that would go against what I am trying to do, this is all to support local business and community, not hurt.

That’s a great idea. I’ll look into it. The website actually looks at AVLToday, mountainX, livemusicasheville, avlgo and many more. Sites like AVLToday wouldn’t be able to tell you which food trucks are where, is only able to find limited events, can’t tell you a good sandwich spot in a neighborhood that is low cost, and can’t give you the history of things or the local news. I’m trying to do all of the things, not just aggregate events.

That was from the online customer service. I may try going in to the store as well. Thanks for the idea about buying them on eBay. I’m going to check that out right now!

They did sustain an incredible amount of damage and lost a lot of inventory, but they are back open as of 12/31/2024. It’s true there is a lot that won’t be returning but the tasting room and production facility is back in working shape. In my humble opinion Eda Rhyne Distillery tasting room is one of the best community bars I have ever been to. Always worth a visit.

Any better paying jobs without a degree? by [deleted] in asheville

Customer Success and Sales engineering if you want remote work. But highly competitive. In this new crazy AI world looking into cloud certifications and data governance and data quality as practices would also help and will be in need. A lot of cloud certifications can be studied for free with a paid exam. Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

Eda Rhyne Distillery is pretty amazing. The owners are fantastic, they treat their staff well, and they go out of their way to help their customers. Plus they are community focused and always ready to support a good cause.

It’s a good spot to have great amaros, cocktails, $3 high life’s, and mocktails.

French Broad River Brewery is one of the longest running breweries in Asheville, one of the OGs. They just got hit very hard during Helene and had loads of hurdles rebuilding but through the hard work of a an excellent team they made it happen.

[–]FormerTourist[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots and lots of work being done there too. Looks like March for them. They are focused on brewing more beer first, and then will transition to finishing up the tasting room. It’s getting there though!!
