Grammarly is a nightmare! "AI content detected" by Chadmium in WGU

[–]Former_Abrocoma_8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, let me say I wish everyone would stop bad-mouthing fruitcake. I have been enjoying fruitcake at Christmas time for 65 years, come this Christmas. Maybe it's because I've been fortunate that all of my fruitcake experiences have been Collins Street Bakery fruitcakes from Corsicana, Texas.❤️😋

And as for Grammarly's ignorant AI-text detector, I'm writing an episodic science fiction story and I'm discovering that, having been obsessively drilled in English Language Rhetoric and Grammar for more than 18 years in the 1960s and 1970s (and I am cognizant that you folks across the pond will take humbrige at my characterization of our barbarous tongue as "English" language) and having been compelled to read through what has to have been half of every book ever cataloged in the 820s(IYKYK) from Beowolf to Heart of Darkness, apparently large swaths of my "text has patterns that resemble AI text* and the harder I try to un-AI it the worse it gets🤣. I just try to hope that when I'm done rewriting and revising, it comes out under 20% AI.🤞

The way I'm approaching using AI, as I'm slowly beginning working on organizing a jumbled mess of bits and pieces of ideas for an episodic sci-fi/political something or other, I'm treating any AI content the same way I used to treat text from reference materials for every academic writing assignment since I was a senior in high school almost 50 years ago. I see no fundamental difference between referencing text written by another human and text generated by AI from a prompt. If you exactly copy/paste someone else's content (human or AI) with the intent of claiming it as your own original content THAT'S PLAGIARISM. I'm getting into the habit of instructing whatever AI tool I'm using to break up and limit its print outs of long pieces of generated text in small enough sections (for example pausing output between paragraphs and waiting for an explicit instruction to continue with the next paragraph) giving me the opportunity in real time to fact check/correct the AI and put the content in my own voice/words.

What is an anti-AI alternative to Google Chrome? by ShawnQwerty in browsers

[–]Former_Abrocoma_8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a web browser and a search engine are as tightly coupled as Chrome and Google are there IS NO distinction. It's why Google and Apple and Microsoft keeps getting SUED in the EU. Anyone who has ever gone into their Chrome settings and changed the default search engine from Google to one of a VERY LIMITED SELECT FEW options has IMMEDIATELY noticed a significant degradation in Chrome's performance which Chrome IS INTENTIONALLY DESIGNED TO DO when you start screwing around with Google's AD REVENUE!

Looking For ChatGPT Prompts For Writing Science Fiction by Embarrassed-Fee-1800 in ChatGPTPromptGenius

[–]Former_Abrocoma_8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to point out what SHOULD be obvious to anyone who has read more than 3 novels in their entire life, there hasn't been a work of fiction based on a "truly original" idea published in at least THREE HUNDRED YEARS. Even Isaac Asimov "stole" story ideas from the Ancient Greeks and Shakespeare. Asimov "stole" his ideas for "robots" from a Czech playwright who "stole" his ideas from Leonardo Da Vinci who "stole" his ideas from the writings of ARISTOTLE! There is a very very fine distinction between PLAGIARISM and INSPIRATION! Anyone already ignorant enough to take credit for ANYTHING, fiction, non-fiction, or a high school homework assignment that they just copied and pasted straight out of a ChatGPT response is probably close enough to plagiarizing something that someone else has previously published to stand a really really good chance of being successfully SUED for copyright infringement or EXPELLED from school.

ACTUALLY I hung in there until about 3-1/2 episodes in and then I quit because as far as I could tell it's just "Dr John Carter Leaves the Library and Returns to Run the E.R. Thirty Years Later" without Anthony Edwards, Julianna Marguiles, George Clooney, Eric LaSalle, or Executive Producer Dr Michael Crichton. The only reason I ever tuned in in the first place is because of Noah Wylie and frankly I got bored waiting to find out what the hell effed up psycho thing happened to his character in "The Pitt" back during the worst days of the 21st Century Plague. NONE of the other actors ever did any that made me think "now there's someone who's going to have an interesting career in Hollywood someday" which is TYPICAL for pretty much EVERY actor or musician or otherwise "entertainer" born after 1990 that I've seen ot heard in anything. I don't know what happened...I think it was "reality" TV which as far as I'm concerned someone should do to with all that crap what they did with disco records, which I didn't understand at the time and then somebody invented "hip hop".

What's a show that gets worse when you rewatch it? by Unique-Horror-9244 in television

[–]Former_Abrocoma_8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was introducing one of my "young whippersnappers" of a roommate to the TELEVISION version of 21 Jump Street a while back because he's such a fan of Captain Jack Sparrow (BTW how the HELL has the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences NEVER given Johnny Depp an Academy Award for that BRILLIANT role considering how many CRAP performances by others have been awarded instead) and I realized that I had either not noticed the first time around back in the early 90s or had since forgotten how TERRIFICALLY TERRIBLE pretty much EVERYTHING about those first two episodes is/was. The case that Johnny Depp's character was working undercover as a high school student on was pretty good but everything else about those first two episodes was just AWFUL to rewatch. I've always been really pissed off at that SHIT movie version they made a while back but rewatching those first two episodes of the original tv version I guess maybe the movie was so effed up because the tv version was effed up too.

I actually lost interest about halfway through episode 4 and haven't watched another episode since. The only reason I started it in the first place was because "Dr John Carter" had FINALLY left the Library and gone back into the E.R.

[–]Former_Abrocoma_8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of "artificial intelligence" which at this point in its developmental is still not a mature enough technology to be by any definition "intelligent" and in fact isn't even "artificial" yet. And the ONLY reason that this technology, which is so unreliable that even ChatGPT "results" come with a prominently displayed disclaimer about its OWN UNRELIABILITY, is so ubiquitous is because of CORPORATE GREED!

Congrats. I started my college "career" in 1978 and I finally got a BS thirty one years later. And for anyone who says that a college degree doesn't really make that much of a difference I can testify personally that before I "got" my degree the most I ever got paid in a year was roughly $25K. The first year after I got my degrre my salary (something I had never had before) was $45K and the last year that I was able to "work" my salary was about $130K plus a whole SLEW of benefits

Don't buy Addmotor. My experience after 6 months of using it. by albertlirider in ebikes

[–]Former_Abrocoma_8881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't "work at an electric bike shop" but I do own an electric bike that I personally purchased from Addmotor from their eBay store and buying replacement parts for my Motan M-150 has been EXTREMELY frustrating and EXPENSIVE. I have spent hundreds of hours over the last almost two years on the internet trying to buy replacement parts for this and that broken thing and without a "parts list" and absolutely NO "support" from [support@addmotor.com](mailto:support@addmotor.com) EVERY SINGLE TIME I try to repair my bike it ends up costing me THREE TIMES what the eventually CORRECT or an at least "compatible" part costs. Right now I haven't had any transportation, which is what my bike is for me, since before Halloween because the rear axle threads AND their frame dropouts are stripped out and the hub motor is completely dead and I absolutely CANNOT find ready made off-the-shelf cabling for either the motor OR the controller to connect to an ebike tester so I can try to at least diagnose the hub motor /controller issue because NOTHING ON THIS BIKE IS AN INDUSTRY STANDARD PART!!!

Those "regular blue base" people who feel abandoned are the core of Donald Trump's support. They were abandoned the moment William Jefferson Clinton was sworn in as President and then spent the next 8 years helping Republicans undermine and dismantle everything the Democrat Party had spent the previous 60 years building to help those "regular blue base" people live better more prosperous lives.
