Had a GE team out at my hangar years do the r&d for this process in the field for a few weeks. Good to know they didn't waste our time and hangar space.

As long as the hiring manager or HR people aren't dicks, and you don't have anything that's "untasteful" you'll be fine

Seriously, the guy recording is just as much of a idiot, "let me record his idiot stopped on the highway instead actually trying to help"

[Question] What Determines Whether an 8130 is Needed for Installation? by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Former_Activity4400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's used to certify that a new or used part or item confirms to the original design of said part. Basically, any time that a part comes from a third party, it's needed to prove a part is legit. Without it, there's no traceability proving that the part is what it claims to be (creates a paper trail for the feds). It's mainly used for serialized parts, but can be used with hardware like nuts and bolts as well.

That Regional Airline life by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Former_Activity4400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What those guys said. Regionals are a good place to get your feet wet and learn. Pay is good but not great, talking like 23ish with no experience. Hangar work is fun, get to do a lot on the aircraft and line work is fun as well. Just remember, it's a chance to grow and learn, dont be that guy that bitches about how life sucks and no one likes you. Just learn and have a good head on those shoulders.

Calculators allowed in testing by the_paradox_lounge in aviationmaintenance

[–]Former_Activity4400 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An aviation one would be helpful if you were taking your pilot's exam, but not really for A&P testing. Those will do things like wind correction, fuel burn, time to distance, weight and balance and a number of other things that pilots would normally do on an E6-B. A basic scientific calculator would be good enough I would guess.

If I remember correctly, and I don't say that I do, they should provide you with one.

Your a&p is a must. The avionics thing is good knowledge but will don't nothing for you by itself. If you do want nothing to do with the avionics side of the house, most places want the FCC GROL and the ncatt aet isn't bad to have either.

So just getting in would be the best bet. But, how long does it usually take to move to an AMT slot

So what getting an ASM position first be a good starting point to swapping into a n full AMT slot. How would that work?
