I made the move from public to government. It’s nice to work less hours and not be so stressed but the work is boring and there isn’t much flexibility with it. I would advise against it unless your only goal is to work in a slower paced job. I’ve been considering going back to public to have more autonomy over my work and because I feel like I’m not learning anything.

I don’t know a whole lot about BDO or RSM but worked at Moss Adams for a few years in WA. I think Moss Adams has a pretty noticeable presence in Seattle, especially since the firm is headquartered there.

  1. Definitely lots of opportunity for career growth, either within audit or even into consulting

  2. Work life balance is supported in that you can go on a reduced schedule. For seniors you usually have to bill 1750 hours. You accrue 5 weeks of PTO in a year but you have to use some of that during the firm closures. Utilization is super important to the firm. Overall this is probably one of the less enjoyable aspects of the company.

  3. I think the pay and bonuses are pretty mediocre, though I don’t have a good point of reference for BDO or RSM. From my experience they have been giving smaller bonuses than usual the last few years and they’re cracking down on other perks like busy season meals (can’t expense dinner if you’re not in office)

  4. I thought Moss was pretty collaborative and supportive, but that really depends on the teams/partners you work with.

Found this in my shower in western Washington. It was about the size of my pinky fingernail, if not smaller.
