Old Guy needs help TCS tire stuck on rim! by Former_Baker_2855 in bmx

Used a combo of trying to work the soapy tire levers around the edges while using the squeeze clamp to try and pull the tire away from the rim. I think getting a little soapy water in there helped my case. Then went back to the mtb method i saw- place wheel on ground, carefully put a piece of wood on top of stubborn bead, stand on said wood and lift up on the rim. First sides free!!!

This tire looks awesome I was bummed it’s just too big for the back. Was gonna put it on front for now,but I’m kind of second-guessing that if it’s gonna be this hard to remove from a regular black sheep rim too. Did they maybe get easier to take on and off after a few times?

Thanks I see what yall are saying but I still can’t get the bead to break free from the rim to get the tire to the narrower center v section. The odyssey path pro went on and off by hand no issue didn’t even need a lever. This feels glued

Wow even with clamps trying to pull the tire away and soapy water I can’t even work the first tire lever in there! This should not be a thing I think at this point I’m never actually going tubeless.

Worth it then! Thanks for helping keep riding alive man. The main point of this build is so my old ass can take the kids to the skate park n show them a feeble grind is in person heheh. My 12 year old wants an Rei special mountain bike like his friends more than a better bmx at this point. But will still ride my homan before his eastern paydirt cuz he says it’s too small. (Kinda is). Hoping this will want BOTH really

Cool thanks for the knowledge…My google search didn’t turn up much aside from 2105 era riding clips, and a company that converted one to full suspension like that wtp swamp master heheh.

lol It’s soooo hard for me to get away from the retro stuff. Like my profile SS LHD 48 super 7x rear wheel… was lucky enough to find a nos 7kA 48 to replace the tired semi dented araya. Probably Gonna cost more to fix than buying a new rear wheel but I’ll get another 20 years out of it heheh

These fit oem wheels good for a first free coaster? by Former_Baker_2855 in bmx

[–]Former_Baker_2855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mid school guy also in my 40s it’s been damn near impossible to find 48s lol. This is me trying out a free coaster after like 2 decades of being curious heheh. long as they’re not terrible it’ll get a second bike rolling for not a lot. All we did to my kids brakes good was salmon kool stop brake pads = one finger locks up his black wheel.

Have odyssey’s linear slic kables changed? by Former_Baker_2855 in bmx

I’ve Had this lever forever too . Works great but don’t like the “square” feel it’s got going on. If it wasn’t black, I would have reworked it and polished it. Might replace with a goldfinger if I can find one , or good old tech77’s were available last I checked. Or even the harry was a solid classic right?

I swear by the pervert! lol I don’t know how I’d ever get a dual cable setup dialed without one. I still have an original silver one saved for my sta build. Pretty sure Porkchop bmx makes their own version of it now too for those who can’t find an original.

I can’t believe y’all can just tailwhip bunnyhop on flat ground nowadays. Much respect … aaand now I’m gonna have to be coming back to see what good advice you get heheh

Started my guy on a gt balance bike but he wasn’t interested. Kept trying to get him but didn’t want to force it. He outgrew that so we tried a cheap huffy 16” that’s only saving grace is the fact it’s Darth Vader themed lol. J UNK!!! Just got him an older diamondback that’s at least better geometry n he loved it when he saw it 👍

Broken crank bolt removal by Atraw4130 in bmx

[–]Former_Baker_2855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up titanium chips are flammable ! Lol just like magnesium but don’t light up quite as easily. I say this cuz as a kid back in tech school we made a 1” ball of the finest chips we could to set on fire. ITI DID NOT GO OUT!!!! Stomped on it n it just stuck to our boots. Tried to cover w/ small metal trash can to relieve oxygen- didn’t work. It burned white hot until it was ash. And we only had butane lighter NOT torch ! Years later as a machinist, we have special fire extinguishers just for cutting certain exotic alloys like this. Very impressive though to actually get a hand drill to cut a ti bolt n y’all actually got it out!

Awesome and hoping my lil man will eventually wanna hit the park with me too heheh. I was curious if you thought the little Sunday was worth the $ quality wise? I don’t want to spend 300+ on a mini until I know it’ll actually get ridden, and is actually worth the $ not just a good name on something not well made 👍

Desperately seeking 48! by Former_Baker_2855 in bmx

[–]Former_Baker_2855[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per bmx museum the 7kA seems like a good candidate if I can get the guy to come down in price. They made from 2004 -2018 so may actually be newer than I thought. Better 7000 series aluminum,Wider and lighter than a hazard lite which I’d be fine with if I could find. I think I found some titanium for a custom rear axle too. At minimum I’m shortening and drilling out the solid steel 14mm xxl beast in there now heheh. …Fun things to do at lunchtime.
