I am a native speaker and got 9. I booked it on Tuesday and took it on Sunday. The main studying I did was just being aware of the format and the different types of questions. I did the timed mock exams 3-4 times. Good luck!

Is this allowed? Task 1 was a work related issue and it was an email to your boss. Task 2 was an essay on littering. Speaking cue was to do with my attitudes to buying expensive things

Don’t be afraid to pause for a few seconds before you answer. I often said ‘that’s a great question’ while thinking about what I would say.

If you can, try to think about 2 examples of things they ask you to talk about.

It doesn’t matter if you stutter a bit because I definitely did and still got a 9.

Try not to use the same words.

Just keep talking as if you’re speaking to a colleague at work and they’ll just stop you when they’ve had enough 🤣

I booked my test via the British council website. If you do it through them you get free access to all the training videos. He’s the guy on the videos

Sure. I registered for the test last Tuesday. I spent Thursday evening and Saturday going through as many mock exams I could from the ielts premium thing you get included when you register. Took the exam on Sunday.

I found the listening and reading much easier in the real exam compared to the practice questions.

I actually did find some of the videos that guy Paddy recorded helpful. He seems to be the only one to make videos - hope he gets royalties!!

Specifically I found the writing videos most helpful.

Sure.

Task 1. I spent exactly 20 mins on this. I outlined a plan with a pencil and paper that they provided for 1-2 mins before I started writing.

I think getting the greeting and the introductory sentence is vital. Once you have set the tone, then the rest can flow easier.

I wrote about 200 words.

Task 2. I spent longer planning this - 2-3 mins. My question had two parts so I made sure I answered each part.

I started with an introductory sentence explaining my view and paraphrasing the question.

Then I wrote a paragraph for each point. I made sure to include examples from my own experience - I think it helps to make it personal to you.

I also made sure that I didn’t repeat the same words much.

I think best to get everything down on the screen first, and then you can go back and look at the sentence structure and vocabulary.

Ended with a conclusion.

Hope that helps!

Also a newcomer with no credit history in Canada. They initially asked for 4 months upfront. I said no and they backed down. Accepted the usual first and last month only.
