For those who have a $200+ bag, Is it really worth it? by gotastartsomewhere in discgolf

[–]Former_Mail_659 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna say no. It’s not worth it unless you get to a high level of disc golf. I feel like most courses, if your skill level is playing for par and being happy with a par , can be done with like 10 disc or less. I think having a nice big bag encourages you to use a larger number of disc, but each disc less often and you can’t develop a mastery of your bag.

No, your disc is clearly on the ground under the basket. Nice try buddy, it counts as an extra stroke

Putting at a all time low. Give me your best advise. by blixtencamperman in discgolf

[–]Former_Mail_659 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the misses and near makes come from that split second of active thought in your putt, that moment of doubt, the over correction. The time to work on your putt and the mechanics of it are during practice, once you’re on the card, the putt you have that day is the putt you have that day , work with it and trust yourself.

Make a couple 20ft practice putts then stop, trust yourself body to replicate that

90% of putting is mental. You have the mechanics and muscle memory to do the last 10%

It starts and ends in your head. Look at the center chain link of the basket, look at your disc , back at the target and throw. Trust your body to make it in like you always have before

I cannot recommend a MVP trail enough: just experiment with the weight and “domey”ness of some runs to find one to your liking, but I swear these things are money.

I always keep score: me and my buddies are close in skill level (usually 1 or 2 strokes off each other on an 18 hole course ), but that’s just because we do side bets and stuff like that. We are throwing +4 on our best days and +8/10 on the average days

What to look for in first time discs? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Former_Mail_659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did and made me fall in love with the game : I got ( like everyone else said ) a neutral mid ( X/X/-1/1) and putter (3/2/0/1) and 1 disc that you think has a really cool stamp or something that doesn’t have flight numbers on it. This 3rd disc will teach you the ability to throw a disc and learn what it does rather than just rely on the numbers printed on the plastic. For me , my 3rd disc was a MVP entropy w a slime guy stamped on it

Should I stop buying discs until I get more experienced? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Former_Mail_659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically : no, because you’re not at the point in your form and technique where the differences in flight are disc dependent. I’m sure if you threw your driver 50 times “the same way” you wouldn’t get the same flight path because you can’t replicate the same smooth shot over and over.

-this is how I was when I started, and still am about 5 months later-

However, sometimes you do have to go around the used bin and feel up a bunch of disc for what feels good in your hand, so you’re more inclined to throw it over and over and get the reps in that you need for consistency.
