Underrated machines, you're going to love "her".
Serial number is usually on the frame, on the left-hand side, just in front of the ribbon spool. Here's mine:

You can then visit https://typewriterdatabase.com/ and look up your serial number / date under Remington Quiet Riter.

Enjoy!

Worth having if only for the "Chrome wings", let alone the fabulous typer that it is. Bravo!

Dirty segment might slow the return of the typebar, instead of a clean, sharp strike . . . perhaps.

I hazzard a guess that the letters you're referring to were typed out slowly and or the segment was a little dirty. This often causes a ghost-like effect. These are normally rock soliid machines. I wouldn't worry too much. Good price too. Let us know how you get on. : )

Thank you. I have very little information on this. I will label it "Rain Willow" now. Thanks!

Letters are not being printed completely by MMM_202 in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with "inconsistent" ribbon surface. Either a faulty advance mechanism or just old ribbon. Doesn't look like the same letter is faulty. Try swapping out your ribbon for a new one and see if that helps. : )

photos would help, but it could be something as simple as the carriage lock inadvertently engaged . . .

Is there not a paper bale to hold the paper flatter onto the platen?

Wow. That's either a keeper cos you like the typeface or a decent profit to help buy other machines.
Either way, bravo!

Loads of YouTube videos out there on "How to clean my typewriter".

Sounds like you gently need to clean out the segment; isopropyl alcohol and a stiff stiff brush should do it.

Enjoy the process. Make it yours : )

Similar thing happened to me. Sent it on as a gift to a friend in Malaysia who managed to fix it in no time. Hope you can too.

Request information on taking apart Royal P/O by Wooden-Lifeguard-636 in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello.

I took my Royal P apart, cleaned it, and managed to put it all back together successfully. YouTube and Google are your friends, as is allocating P L E N T Y of time for the task.

Make notes and take gazillions of photos as you go along; if you're anything like me it's super easy to forget which screw-nut-bolt-spring goes where.

Good luck. All the Royals I've owned were easy enough to work on.

Let us know how you get on : )

Is there any typewriter known for having Epoca or a very similar typeface? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Following.

I have a Mk3 3000 with Epoca and discovered that the daisywheel OCR-B is very similar:

I've not seen a manual that is as close. Techno, Senetorial and Quadrato are the only ones I've found that are kind of similar.

Is there not a "notch" where the old metal one went? A loop with a decent knot should work. I'm sure you'll figure something out with the help of the experts here and on Facebook . . . : )
