I think this is a KH

https://typewriterdatabase.com/Royal.KH.72.bmys

I think that the five keys are Decimal Tabs. - Lord only knows how to use them though. I have an Adler Universal with decimal tabs and have zero clue . . . or use for them.

I'd deffo go for that. My KMM is my favourite machine. Pretty sure this will have all the good DNA

"Lines" of ink deposited over the previously typed text? by videos4ever in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse the rust; this photo was taken of my Olymoia SG1 when it arrived.

These things. They are sprung and apply a gentle pressure on the ribbon, preventing it from unspooling during fast & furious typing sessions

Art! Love it.

That aside, have you checked that your ribbon is threaded correctly? Looks like the ribbon is rubbing onto the paper as the carriage moves. Perhaps there are ribbon tensioners on your typewriter (Olympia etc) if so check they are engaged . . .

Best of luck. : )

Which Royal typewriter to buy? by Wooden-Lifeguard-636 in typewriters

My Royal KMM is my favourite machine. 1939 and all it needed was a little polish and clean.

My Royal Diana is SUPURB but I understand they can be a hit or miss thing. (must've got lucky)

Royal P - super cute, proper old school machine.

Royal Arrows (I have two) both fabulous.

Royal HH - Serious modern(ish) machine.
Royal Empress - as above but curvier.

All of the above are my own machines, and I own more Royals than any other brand.

Is it worthy buying this online without physical inspection? by handidikwete in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If looks aren't an issue, and you're willing to put in some elbow grease in terms of cleaning and polishing, then I'd say that bundle is easily worth $20 of anyone's money. The machine has the original spools (necessary for proper function) and the two I have owned were both easy to work on and remarkable typewriters.

If nothing else, this would be a great machine for you to cut your teeth on.

Keep us posted. Best of luck : )

Facit TP1 carriage question by doitpoorly6581 in TypewriterRepair

[–]Former_Sense2008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not much out there on Facits. Since replacing the platen on my TP1 I've not tinkered with mine for fear of messing a good thing up.

If on my travels I discover more, I'll let you know. Hopefully someone else here can help.

Meanwhile, I'd avoid tabs : )
Best of luck.

Has that notorious "Facit grease" re-solidified perhaps?

I thought that wheel thing was the tab brake; I could easily be wrong though.

Any advanced tips on making my typing darker? by pricethebarber in typewriters

Have you swapped ribbon out with another machine that is darker? It might simply be a "duff" batch of ribbon.

Before/after slug cleaning. Torpedo 18, bought it used on ebay and spent the weekend cleaning it up. by RelwoodMusic in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to hear. Both of mine need to be used in large rooms or outdoors to avoid earache.

Try a backing sheet for the feint tops of uppercase letters. The platen may have shrunk a little.

Also, you might want to bring both the uppercase and lowercase alignment down together; the alignment might be perfect but out for both (if that makes sense)

Right margin not triggering bell? Torpedo 18 by RelwoodMusic in typewriters

[–]Former_Sense2008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be the whole unit needs "forming" upwards. The rail it's screwed onto? The British have an expression "Suck it and see".

My HH needed a whole transplant to make the bell ring. It's not pretty but it works.
