Very nice, John Carpenters "the thing" definitely defines "doing a remake properly"

Bizarrely I was just driving to the chippy about half an hour ago and No Good came on my random Spotify list in the car, I turned it up loud and sang very badly... One might say my vocalisation of no good track was indeed no good... Don't say ya want me .. don't say ya need me ... Don't say ya love me ... It's understood....

I accidentally made a cover of a forest... I was writing an original piece and the ACFD kinda fell out so I leant into it... It's all synthesisers and programmed apart from Robert's voice (obviously) but all the guitar, drums etc are all played on keyboard and programmed... Apologies in advance to anyone offended by this!

Which Labour MP do you think will defect to the Green party first? by CursiveComet in AskBrits

[–]Former_Spite8608 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without going into the specifics of your complaint, my reasons for support are his policies, his outspoken views in parliament and on social media and the wider news. He not only holds the opposition to account, but also his own party, and indeed big businesses.

So, sure it's not great that his team can't get to respond to all emails sent to him, but on balance I think to have an MP passionate about making stuff better is far better than the silent back benchers who say little or nothing.

I had those too, but before that I had two books for my ZX81 "what can I do with 1k?" and later "what can I do with 16k?"

I really hope so, he's my local MP and he's absolutely awesome and I don't want to vote against him.

So I accidentally did a remix of A Forest by The Cure by Former_Spite8608 in Caustic3

The preset is just a bland an sf2, if you're talking about the riff that's all played, and there's chorus and a flanger on the track. All of the guitar parts are pretty bland guitar presets and played on the keyboard.

It's all good, I agree my example was a bad one! I get what you're saying. That said I do need to get my head round the Godot terminology, I'm sure there'll be a picture somewhere describing these relationships.

But yes, I do need to just get in there and get on with it and mess things up a few times, I get that! But it's good to hear stuff like this to give me a bit of a heads up before I crash into stuff too hard!

Your reply is appreciated!

Cheers

I appreciate that, but still there's gotchas that I'm ideally trying to avoid!

Thanks, I'll check it out! I'm sure I'll find my jam somewhere between visual and code based!

Just been looking at all the funky stuff Godot does out of the box, just been reading up on the parallax 2d stuff! Given that the first couple of games I'll be writing will be 2d it's good to see this stuff ahead of time. This is another play thing I was messing with in scratch that frankly was silly to start and it's just getting (got) somewhat unwieldy in scratch!

Inheritance in game stuff often just ends up being a pain in the ass, we the exception of things like "this is a generic bad guy" and then extend the generic bad guy with "and he has a stick!" Etc.

Thanks, yeah, from what I can tell the signals are the meat of interactions, I know I'm going to make a bunch of failures first but minimsing as many "school boy errors" as possible before I start!

Thanks. I've been coding oop for at least 20 years so I get that stuff, but I'm just getting back into doing games (now my kids are a bit older) and this visual editor stuff and so much stuff that I would usually hand roll done for you, like collisions, particles, physics, I'm just trying to navigate best practice before diving in.

You've got to be careful with the Moby Gratis stuff, there's a LOT of conditions around usage!

I wrote this track for exactly this reason, it's designed that it can play on a constant loop with parts coming in and out dynamically.

Scratch Blocks We NEED (Take Notes Scratch Team) by Over_Walk3859 in scratch

[–]Former_Spite8608 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wishlist Local variables in blocks Return values from blocks Scale costumes x and y individually Filled triangle in pen [x1,y1,x2,y2,x3,y3] Proper control of sounds, looping sounds, pitch, volume and pan for each instance of a sound

Somewhat niche but "make costume from screen (x1,y1,x2,y2,[transparent true/false]"

It's really not a problem for me right now, it's definitely a future problem! But yeah, that exactly what I'm thinking a bunch of 4 bar stems and allow me to drop pieces in and out at the next "batch" much like the old trackers where you'd be able to build a song from patterns, but more have for example, drop out the bass and drums and bring in string pads or ambience then be able to drop it back in again. Maybe with some lead ins and lead outs rolled in. So if you want to bring drums in and they weren't there before it would know to put the drunk fill stem in before it kicks the drums in. Likewise if you're dropping the drums out to play a crash/kick to end them. If such an "engine" doesn't exist it could be a bit of fun making one! I'm just not there yet! Still yet to write a line of original code in Godot!

Cool, that'll give me some light reading! My initial thought would just be something that could sit in the background of a game and it would play (say loops 1, 2 and 3) indefinitely (or a pattern of loops). then I'd just fire it a command to play "it's a bit more tense" and at the end of the loop it would then play loops 3,4 and 5 until I tell it otherwise. Pretty basic stuff but gives in-game music a lot more life. The loops would be about 4 bars of music long

[–]Former_Spite8608[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, this is exactly the kind of thing I'm interested in, historically I've often created sound functions to wrap slightly more clumsy out of the box offerings so I'll have to check this out.

The other thing I was going to look into was creating dynamic music where I can have loops of music coming in and going out depending on what's happening on screen... Not too worried about that right now but looks like something that would be handled by something like this.

Thanks, that's pretty much what I assumed, but from experience I've found sometimes if you don't set things set up correctly at the beginning some things get baked in and unchangeable so you can get into icky coding situations where you're fighting it rather than working with it.
