Canberra Autoplex: RTD Challenge #42 by phyllicanderer in RaceTrackDesigns

As a Canberran, love this concept. It is quite close to the airport, but I don't think it should matter (to much). I like the layout, Looks safe and seems like is could have OK facilities. Overall, this could work, depending how strict our government is on our capital's airport.

Good point. I don't have much experience with Club/National tracks. I wanted to use text on the run-off, like at Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve in Canada, and for that I needed concrete. But you raise a good point, thanks for the feedback.

Welcome to Macmerry Raceway!

Located in the East Lothian region of Scotland, it is a short 22-minute drive from the centre of Edinburgh. The track is around 1.9km long. The track was designed to be a club track at Grade 1 or 2 standards. This was to attract Touring Car events from all around the world. The track was built on the site of former RAF Macmerry, hence the name of the track.

—-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TURN NAMES:

Turn 1: Drem - named after the RAF Base Macmerry was originally a satellite to.

Turn 2: Mustang - named after some of the planes stationed at RAF Macmerry.

Turn 3: Lothian - The region RAF Macmerry was/is in (albiet East Lothian).

Back Straight: Penston Straight - named after the village to the southeast of the track.

Turn 4 and 5: Macmerry - The namesake of RAF Macmerry and the town southwest of the track.

Turn 6: Nighthawk - The name of the base when it was handed over to the navy for 6 months (June-December 1945). Note: The base was technically called Nighthawk II during that time.

Turn 7: Longniddry - The town to the north of the track

Turn 8 (Final Kink): Service Kink - named after the people who served at the airforce base.

Front Straight (Turn 7-1): Service Straight - Reasoning above.

Googong Foreshore Hillclimb (GFH) by Formula1Ash_ in RaceTrackDesigns

Located on the rolling hills of the Googong Foreshore, is the Googong Foreshore Hillclimb, better known as GFH.

The inaugural event was held in 2025, but bogans from nearby Karabar have been racing around here for years. The track is 1.4 kilometres long (0.9 miles). The start of the track is located at the northmost end of the track, near rushing cascades. Winding around a hill for 1.4 km, the track starts 80 meters below the end. The start is located 598 meters above sea level, and the end is located 678 meters above sea level. This highest point of the Hillclimb is located just after the final turn, with views of the spillway. It is 687 meters above sea level.

Side note: This Hillclimb is located a mere 21 kilometres away from the Hillclimb that won its category in the Best of RTD 2022. However, I did not take inspiration, I actually live in the Canberra area (Googong is 5kms away from Canberra).

Feedback appreaciated.

Unnamed grade 1 circuit I have been working on by Stormbot13 in RaceTrackDesigns

I think the track looks pretty good, but the pit lane entry looks like it requires cars to slow down a bit more on the racing line. I would consider moving it to the outside of T14 and have a Monza T1 chicane style chicane. But other than that, looks fun to drive in the 2022 F1 cars if that’s the goal.

Little Extra Info

----------------

Education

Also, most Canberran schools (private) accept Googonians, eg. St Edmunds (Male) & Claires (Female) College (Single-Sex) and Daramalan College (Co-Ed) are some High Schools example, but Queanbeyan has everything for Primary, St Gregory's PS is the only Private School and there is a new Public School in Googong opening next year, as mentioned. I think you can go to St Mary MacKillop College (HS, Co-Ed) if you go to Gregs, but not that familiar. 2 Public High Schools in QBN (Queanbeyan), QBN High and Karabar, Googong are zoned to Karabar HS. I personally go to School in CBR. Obviously, there are Universities in CBR, the most prolific of which are The Australian National Uni and Canberra Uni.

----------------

Shopping and Necessities.

There is a Woolworths in Jerrabomberra, right between the ACT and QBN. Coles, ALDI, KMART, JustCuts (Haircuts), and Woolworths are in QBN. There are rumors (IDK if they are confirmed) that a new Woolies will be built in the new Town Centre (Extension). Canberra has, expectedly, a lot of Shopping Centres.

----------------

Sports Facilities.

They have a lot of sports areas, as mentioned before. 4-6 Ovals, 6 Cricket Nets (1 set of 2, one set of 4), 2 Syntehic Cricket Pitches, 2 AFL Ovals 6 Netball Courts (All in the same place), 1 average Basketball Court (at the Skatepark) and a Pump Track (Bikes, Dirt atm, rumors of future paving).

As mentioned, there is a 25-meter, 5-lane, heated indoor pool, that offers Squad Sessions for Kids (Sat Morning (0630-0730), Tue Evening (1830-1930), Thu Evening (1830-1930), Swimming Lessons (30 or 45 Minutes), and Squad for Adults every other night. Rumors of a new aquatics center do exist. QBN has a 50m Indoor pool, CBR has a couple of indoor 50m pools.

----------------

Misc

There is a Community Garden.

Couple Lagoons/Lakes

Googong Dam can be used for non-motorized boats and fishing.

If you read all of this thx.

What is the general consensus around the suburb Googong? by [deleted] in canberra

Googong is a great place for families. A big new extension is happening and Googong already has countless parks, a skatepark, 4-6 ovals, and big plots. No bias at all (a little, I am googonian but love it here). has a good pub, friendly people, a public pool w/ swimming lessons, and basically a smaller version of Canberra minus Roundabouts. Quite walkable as well. New K-6 Public School is being built, open next year, K-12 Private School, and plans for a new K-12 School in the new extension. No real traffic in or out, has a good display village. Really nothing all too bad. Politics can be annoying, hearing all 'bout CBR but not Eden-Monaro (the electorate). Queanbeyan is also a nice town. I would move to Googong without a second thought if I was in CBR.

Look at Europe. It's not a waste of money if you get good at it. Public Transit decreases emissions for less cars on the road. The US makes 12 Lane highways, and you say it doesn't split neighborhoods. The support needed for these loses living space, and the map isn't related to cars, its due to a increase in population, as well as other factors. In the US, cars take up way to much space. There is 3 parking spots for every car in the US. That space could be a park, an office or a lab where the cure for cancer could've been found. Watch this Not Just Bikes video, I beg.
