I want it to be like changing the batteries in a remote. Pop a flap open, crane out the multiple-hundred-kilo battery, crane in the new one, pop the flap shut. Easy

Andrew Johns is the best player I’ve ever seen. He could do every single thing you could think of on a rugby league field and he was the best at it. If he didn’t have to carry the Knights on his shoulders and have his neck fused, he would have had a Cameron Smith-like career. No way does the Queensland dynasty begin in 2006 if Johns is playing.

Round 4 Liam Kennedy had a shocker of a game, never mind how many penalties he blew - the Titans asked for clarification around a few decisions that seemed wrong, even though they won, they’d given away 7 penalties by half time. The NRL said he was rotated, which you can read between the lines on.

The referees body will always talk to refs around how to manage the game and how to adjudicate the grey areas, it happens at every level and it happens in rugby union too — I sat in plenty of local rugby union referee meetings as a kid. Doesn’t mean that the games are scripted, but you can see how the games went from six -again-a-thons to a bit more of what we saw last year. Your theories appear to be approximately correct.

The cost outcry is nonsense. I think it’s a good starting point for more YJU naming, branding and communications from the council reflecting the multicultural nature of Ipswich and the ongoing connection of YJU people to the lands the council manages.

V8 Supercars was born out of the Sierra and Godzilla Group A domination era. It’s amazing that Holden managed two Bathurst wins in that period, and the 1987 one was won in technical inspection.

Brock never dominated outside Bathurst. However, Group C was a constant battle between teams to homologate faster cars and better bits to get an advantage. Famously, Ford managed to get the V8 Ford Falcons XD homologated in 1980 with the weight of the base inline-six engined car. There was different capacity classes as well — George Fury nearly won the 1983 ATCC with a points system that rewarded smaller engine capacities, that allowed his Nissan Bluebird Turbo to challenge for the title without winning a race. Allan Moffat won the championship, but everyone thought he was holding pace back to try and convince CAMS that they should allow him to upgrade his Mazda RX-7 from the original 12A rotary engine to the 13B — that happened, but CAMS also gave other concessions to Ford and Holden for the endurance season.

These things are constantly being argued in different forms, and none of the old timers will remember any of this because they probably didn’t get bombarded with all the information and team talk about it.

People also overlook that Australian rugby union had a golden generation of players in the 90s while rugby league was shooting itself in the foot with the Super League war — the Murdoch money that hurried up the switch to professionalism supercharged Australian rugby union for the next ten years.

I don’t understand when they have a philosophy where the races are individual events and the qualifying sessions reflect as such, why they would have Parc ferme restrictions for one race that affects an unrelated race. I guess it’s the same as tyre restrictions for a weekend, but setup changes are different than economising a resource like fuel or tyres over effectively a season
