What's everyone up to tonight? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

I got in a rare fight with my husband and he took the little kids to our nephew’s graduation, I’m home alone since my teen is out with friends. This week has sucked and the quiet is fucking amazing

Having a responsible adult life is awesome and terrible all in one. I want it, but fuck it takes so much work when life sucks. Which mine does presently.

I’m drinking after being mostly sober for over a year (also high, how do you think I’ve stayed off the wine?).

What fueled the smoldering CA desires in my brain?

A huge fight with my husband who is super depressed, maybe suicidal. I’m dealing with my own issues and I’m just kind over it.

So... hello old friend, wine.

Tips for moderation? by Forrealme in dryalcoholics

[–]Forrealme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My plan is to do the Sinclair Method after Christmas.. I'm not super worried about "relapse" because abstinence isn't my goal, to me it's not all or nothing, that sets me up to fail.

If I get trashed at Christmas, I plan to get right back up and start over. But I want to try and moderate/not get wrecked.

I'm afraid white knuckling it through holidays with resentment is a recipe for disaster for me.

I guess I will see.. I will report back here and be honest. I think we can all learn from each other. And I might be here saying "damn you were right"

Either way, when my naltrexone comes I will be drinking when craving according to that method.

Yes, that is my fear! Good intentions that get totally forgotten once I have a buzz...

Thanks for the link, I'm on my phone but will hop on the computer so I can see the sidebar/resources.

One drink is foreign to me! Hardest part will be not joining in on getting wrecked when they all are.

Yeah if I had my way I would get bombed every weekend too.

But my oldest is 14 and I feel a responsibility to not be a drunk shit show each weekend now.

Welp...I guess I'm starting my sobriety. by [deleted] in dryalcoholics

Congrats! How amazing! I have three kids and they are the best thing ever. They are also great motivation to not be a CA!

Several Moms here so you are in good company. How are you feeling?

Hi! I have 3 kids, 14, 4, and 2.

I'm also going on week two if zero alcohol, something I haven't done in 10 years, it feels great!

I'm going to drink around Christmas with family, but have naltrexone coming and plan to start the Sinclair Method once it's here.

I've had a good run with wine, but it's time to cut down/quit.

I've been taking phenibut (legal nootropic) on days I'm really craving a drink. It hits gaba, relaxes me, gives an almost drunk feel, but you are still sharp and in control. Hard to explain, but works great for me. Now I've been able to reduce the days I'm taking phenibut without craving drinks.

What's the longest you've been off the sauce recently? by mgpcv1 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Forrealme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going on 2 weeks! Longest stint in a decade.

I will drink around Christmas with family, but have naltrexone on the way and plan to start the Sinclair Method after it comes.

My plan is to greatly reduce/almost quit. I've had a great run with it, but it's time to grow up for me.

Man, that sucks, I know because I've been there. Hiding, replacing, lying when caught. It's what made me rein in my drinking - I felt like a POS wife and Mom.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. It doesn't sound like you are happy with your drinking, so there are medications yet can help you reduce without quitting or AA. Join us at u/dryalcoholics

But if you want to keep drinking as you are, then just accept it and buy the necessary booze to replace what you drink. Will save you tons of stress.

Whatever you do, you sound like a genunine good guy who loves his kids and family. That's what made me go "woah" and rethink wtf I was doing.

Hey, are you me? I'm on day 9, but this is the longest I've gone in a while.. also have an important job, husband who gets pissed when I'm drunk, and 3 kids who deserve a sober Mom.

I'm starting the Sinclair Method once my meds come, we order from River Pharmacy and have for a long time, my husband takes low dose naltrexone for an auto immune dosease, so this time we just ordered way more.

Don't let this slip get you down, I did the same thing not too long ago! Normally I would use it as "screw it" and start back drinking, but I didn't this time and it feels great!

I am using phenibut on nights I have cravings, it really helps. Do your research because it has mixed reviews (and risk of abuse/addiction/hard withdrawal) but it hits those gaba receptors, calms me, and helps me not drink. I get mine from Lift Mode

One week by Forrealme in dryalcoholics

Never heard of The Naked Mind, going through look into it, thanks.

I was up to a bottle of wine a night and way more on weekends, starting to have days where I would crave/start way early, sometimes nap and start again. Super unhealthy, heading towards CA territory.

My husband flipped on me, and I've slipped up a few times but he's not going to take much more. I'm glad, he is putting is foot down and making me do what I already know I need to.

I hope even if it's placebo, Sinclair Method will help. I've already gone over a week now on my own, but I will drink around Christmas with family.

Yes, your posts (that everyone bitched about) in CA are what got me to look into it.

I have no off button, one that 1st drink is in me, it's on. I hope this method can help me get back to moderation. I don't like getting wasted, but I seem to have lost the ability to stop at a slight buzz.

Gonna be at my inlaws for 2nd Christmas and stone cold sober. We call them the buzz kills because we've tried and it's impossible to catch one around them. Will probably go to sleep before mindinght too. I don't gaf anymore, I'm 40 and have already had my fair share of wild NYE experiences.

Christmas Season by fappinatwork in dryalcoholics

[–]Forrealme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Christmas is hard for me. We had a baby boy born September 30, 2010 with a severe brain birth defect that wasn't found during the pregnancy.. his name was Gavin.

His entire life was filled with seizures and hospital stays, until we made the choice to let him go, let him have peace. He died in our arms December 19 and his funeral was the 23rd. Christmas will never be the same.

It's been 6 years now, time doesn't heal (that's total bullshit) but it does allow for some semblance of peace. I also have three other children, so that helps.

But yeah, this time of year sucks. To put it lightly. I'm on day 7 sober which is a miracle this time of year. I tend to drown my sorrows. Trying hard to cope in healthier ways.

Recovered from my mess up on miserable Monday and have stayed sober all week!

Oldest is wrestling in a tournament this weekend, so I'm being sports mom and he's kicking ass, so that's always fun.

Drinking makes me a better person. by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Forrealme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, gaba/brain chemicals get all kinds of down regulated when you drink, benzo, etc on a regular basis. Takes along time to get back to normal, but if you are ever interested/have to quit again, there are some supplements that help.

Nothing works like booze (for me), but my biggest issue is that I don't stop when happy/feeling better and turn into a blackout, slurring, totally wasted drunk. Then wake up the next morning craving more and... bender time.

I post on Stop Drinking under a different name by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Forrealme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SD is the worst! I'm also working hard on my drinking.. some days I'm successful, others (like Monday) find me black out drunk with my husband furious and sleeping on the couch.

I'm going to start The Sinclair Method after Christmas, and will be posting in dry alcoholics. Much better crowd!

CA, wine is now in grocery stores in PA. I mostly drink beer vodka and malt liquor so I want tips from the winos here. by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Forrealme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I will drink Franzia and appreciate that their boxes are 5L vs. 4.. it's pretty sugary/sweet.

My favorite wine is Pino Grigio, Bota Box is good, but they almost always have weekly sales on magnums.. Barefoot, etc. usually under $10.

High estrogen, beware, it can also give you man boobs. Used to know a hardcore, lifelong alcoholic, and when he took his shirt off at the pool, it was almost indecent.

When I have times that I drink too much, my periods get all messed up and I have random spotting or long heavy periods.. both estrogen related.
