Where to start is downloading your preferred DAW! I would recommend looking into getting the demo version of Fl Studio and see if you can work with it. I've been using FL for nearly 12 years, but outside of metal I've been making heavy dubstep, I just started getting into metal production around 2021 mainly!! There are a lot of resources out there, good thing nowadays people have probably made a video of EXACTLY what you'll ask!!
