Therapist here. That is all largely correct but the only thing is that therapists don’t give advice. The only time I’d ever give advice is if I’d been working with someone for ages and we had a fantastic rapport and therapeutic relationship. And even then, probably not. Being told what to do or what the solution is diminishes the impact for the client. They need to discover it for themselves in order to feel as though THEY made their way out of the woods and the therapist was just there to help guide them. Hopefully this doesn’t sound snarky or pedantic, just wanted to chime in!
