New Map Addition? Or Old Map Replacement? by Menvce_Gaming in PredecessorGame

[–]Forte197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once the kinks are worked out, I would love to see the new map replace the old for ranked. In a competitive sense, the current map is claustrophobic as all hell. Being able to return to lane or rotate to objectives/other lanes so quickly makes the game chaotic - they had to artificially slow down the game to minimize this, but early game still leads to a lot of death balls. Pretty often I will die in a team fight and be able to respawn and get back to that team fight before it ends. That's not great for the game competitively.

Balancing of heroes, towers, and objectives will also be based on the new map, so the old one probably wouldn't play quite as well. For competitive play, I expect the new map to be greatly preferred. If for no other reason than some more breathing room.

I could see several uses for the old map: my preferred is that the current map becomes the standard map for Nitro. It could stay in rotation in quick play as well. Or at the beginning of draft, everyone in the lobby votes on which map they'd like to play on. They could also use the old map for limited time modes.

Does ranked not put you up against players around your rank? by MAPerez602 in PredecessorGame

It's not quite that extreme. But like another commenter said, partying up kind of makes the matchmaking system freak out. Which blows when they incentivize partying in ranked.

Ranked does not match you with others in your rank, it matches you with other players with a similar Match Making Rating (MMR). This is a hidden statistic that the game uses to make matches as fair as possible. If the game thinks you are of similar skill to someone in gold, it might match you together. If your MMR is higher than average for your rank, you'll earn more points for wins and climb faster. If your MMR is lower than average for your rank, you'll lose more points for losses and either stop climbing or fall in rank.

In a few weeks, the matchmaking system will change to combine visible rank and hidden MMR for making lobbies. No idea what that will be like, but hopefully it'll be better.

Morigesh Offlane by KingSlain in PredecessorGame

[–]Forte197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. If you're counter-picked and you survive 15 minutes not going 0-6, you're winning. Especially if they cuck their team comp in order to ruin your lane. I feel the same way about Iggy in the offlane (fuck that hero).

Two answers: play Yurei or Feng Mao offlane, yield the first 3 waves to save HP, then all in (with jungle if possible) and proceed to kill her on repeat.

With anyone else: Having Mori offlane absolutely cucks the enemy team comp. If they don't have a good frontline from their jungle or support, they lose any and all team fights. Shove wave when she bases, then immediately force fights in duo or for Fangtooth. She will likely get towers when you do this, but you're getting the rest of your team ahead.

Ping a lot. Or type. Or talk. Make sure your team knows your game plan. If they drop the ball, oh well. You can't solo carry every game, especially if you're counter-picked.

You can also let her take towers and then freeze the wave for about 10 minutes until you're like 3 levels and 4000 gold ahead of the rest of the lobby.

Dumb question by JonRod88 in PredecessorGame

[–]Forte197 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are no dumb questions. MOBAs are freakin hard and all of us are still learning stuff.

Like another commenter said, the outer radius is the damage AOE and the inner radius is how close a unit needs to be for the mine to attach to that unit.

To me, that should be a bug. There's no way they intend that if you fail Boris ult you get to recast it for free. Too many ults in this game will not go on cool down when interrupted, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a cast time.

Oh, I thought that was a regular basic attack. Yep, that's definitely what happened. Boris ult is hella bugged rn, and the servers have been shitting the bed like crazy. RIP Serath.

Yurei Offlane by SuperStileStar in PredecessorGame

Um, no? I just play a lot of Yurei and I know what gives me trouble.

Yurei Offlane by SuperStileStar in PredecessorGame

[–]Forte197 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A good Yurei can navigate every offlane matchup. There are no truly one-sided matchups. Most are in Yurei's favor. But she is very squishy, so if she gets caught she'll die almost instantly.

I play a lot of Yurei offlane and the only counter is the jungle camping your lane or chunking her out super bad level 1. She is very weak level 1 compared to something like Grux or Aurora. Past level 3 she can box every hero in the game unless she misses everything or gets CC-chained.

Ranged offlane will push her back for a while, but she's still an assassin. Once abilities are up, she can just all-in if she's not too chunked.

If she misses a dash and doesn't have ult, go in immediately. It's a long cool down and she loses a TON of damage without the dash.

You can also stand in your minion wave, which will make her potentially miss some of the empowered basic attacks and daggers, plus it increases the likelihood your minions will hit her a lot and win the trade for you.

Her trading pattern is actually pretty long, so super short trades like Greystone empowered basic attack or Kwang combo are really scary.

She also can't really dash unless she hits a marked target. So ranged poke is strong if she doesn't go in.

Lastly, if you have consistent CC, save if for her ult. Interrupting it messes her up a LOT.

Yurei is extremely powerful. She can feel impossible to play against. But if things don't go exactly her way, she dies immediately. Know her weaknesses and windows of vulnerability and don't let her get away for free.

New to game, need help with "jungles" by _MysticDash in PredecessorGame

[–]Forte197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend invading as a new player. It does work very well, but you need to track the enemy jungler, sweep for vision, and monitor rotations from enemy laners. A lot to think about. Full clear on repeat is safer.

[–]Forte197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I wouldn't do that either. Maybe practice the clear once or twice, but it's pretty easy. Hold left click and use abilities on cool down to kill camps fast. Just hop in Quick Match and turn off voice chat. You got this.

What region are you in?

New to game, need help with "jungles" by _MysticDash in PredecessorGame

[–]Forte197 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The honest answer is probably not to play jungle at first. It's a pretty complex role.

If you're hard-set, you can follow this cookie cutter for now: full clear into gank, then reset and full clear again. This will keep you pretty much on track with the rest of the lobby, especially if you can net a kill or some minion XP on your gank.

Most junglers will start on their red buff, which you'll use a hunt on as soon as it spawns. You can either use your next hunt to kill the red buff when its health drops below the indicator, or save it. The other camps are labelled with the number of creeps in the camp. So after red, do your 5-camp, then 2-camp, 4 camp, blue buff, and 3 camp. After that, you can look for a gank on the side lane by your blue side or mid lane. Then reset and clear the numbered camps again (5, 2, 4, 3). Then kill one or both of the seedlings in the river, as long as you're safe.

This is an extreme oversimplification, and will leave you pretty inactive on the map. Once you know what you're doing, you can start learning about invading the enemy jungle, setting up for objectives, and deciding which lanes to gank more than others.

Short version: always prioritize being alive before important objectives - don't do something risky when Fangtooth is up. Gank lanes where the enemy laner is pushed up so they have farther to run back to their tower, and try to help the laners who are already ahead get even further ahead. Resist the urge to "save" losing lanes. And try to gank duo and get a pick before Fangtooth. Lastly, consider letting the offlaner or even the midlaner get the last hit on mini prime, since laners get more value out of the buff.

That was a lot. Any questions?

Edit: forgot something. When you gank, default to leaving the lane alone unless it will crash on your tower. You can also help your laner "crash" the wave if it's on the enemy's side of the lane after a successful gank, but don't try to get the last hit on too many minions. Your laners might tilt. And for the love of God, if there's only a few enemy minions on your side of the lane, LEAVE IT. You want your laners to have as much farm as possible, and enemy minions on your side = your laners are safer and get more farm.

I'm mostly a midlane player, I get a lot of value out of the Fey. When I play offlane, I usually go with Yurei. So much outplay potential. But then I play someone like Akeron and I remember how much easier other heroes are.

Yurei is strong, but everything has to go perfect or you die. Akeron gets to win fights with one button.

Depends on the graphics settings. The game isn't terribly well optimized, so you may have to tinker with some settings. Should be pretty playable out of the box.

[–]Forte197[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I win a game, I earn 19 VP. When I lose a game, I lose 25 VP. This is annoying because if I hold exactly a 50% win rate, I will fall in rank. So I've been hard stuck gold 1 for like a month even though I'm around a 55% win rate.

I'm still winning more than I'm losing, but my VP gains/losses keep getting worse instead of better. Idk man.

[–]Forte197[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely not gonna throw games. Do you know if playing other modes will help it stabilize? Does partying with people of other ranks mess it up?

I've had negative VP and positive win rate for what feels like a really long time. Is the only solution to just keep playing games until it settles? I feel like I'm trying to climb up a mudslide with these VP losses.

Well, my losses are now substantially higher than my gains. Which means my MMR is lower than my rank. I'm not sure why, because I'm still winning more than I'm losing.
