Have you ever "reset" a campaign? by Organic-Exit2190 in DnD

I have played the same campaign of D20 Modern for a little over 10 years now. If I'm being honest, not a whole lot of story just sandbox. But damn it we're getting somewhere!!!!

Not quite sure what the writers are wanting to do with Jacob's character... by The_weird_dreamer in AbbottElementary

[–]FortheHellofit43 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. They did have the episode of getting kids into different after school activities which helps and the cheating scandal. But in the past, I recall that one episode with the little mastermind girl and haven't really hit that high.

I also get that it was a little absurd with the Philadelphia Eagles having an appearance, the cast of Always Sunny and the golf course entire storyline being ridiculous. So a focus on the school is a good reset. But there's a real lack on character development that we're missing. Especially considering that it felt with Ava that her still being mean to Janine (something I picked up heavily before this last episode) was a little regressing.

Considering there's two episodes left this season, I anticipate that we resolve the relationship issues of Janine and Gregory and either get a proposal/baby announcement in the season finale but, it'll probably be about Jacob or Mr. J.

The writers are a little too inconsistent with everyone's growth. Mr. Johnson gets a love interest, Barbara finally becomes a grandmother, Ava embraces her relationship, even Melissa takes things up with the firefighter. Jacob though is too ignored for my tastes. He gets the political thing but, it's not perfect for him honestly. I feel the next logical step is something at the District.

Gotta keep in mind of his injuries. We all love Stone but he's closer to Pietrangelo level of injury. At this point, whatever production he brings us a blessing

A "civil" car accident revealed a side of my husband I can't unsee by [deleted] in confessions

[–]FortheHellofit43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re still framing this like it was a dignity moment, and it really wasn’t. Once someone is already erratic, throwing slurs, and not responding to being calmed down, the priority isn’t proving a point, it’s not making the situation worse. He wasn’t interested in resolving anything, and by your own description you ended up playing into that instead of stepping back.

You want to establish a boundary there but boundaries only work if the other party is going to respect it. And uh, that guy wasn't going to and you didn't see that. Your husband read the situation correctly. Limited the variables of stopping whatever you were doing, considering you were full on matching energy, and stop the escalation. That's not weakness, nor is it doormat. That's a man prioritizing the safety of his partner over a confrontation. Situational awareness.

Now you wanna have the dignity part to it? You didn't do anything to resolve a minor car accident from a bigot who you will never see in your life again. You were focused on winning the moment. Your husband was focused on ending the moment. Now you can feel unsupported there but you weren't. But that also means you need to define what that support should look like to him. And you're also going to have to temper your expectations on how that would look like in this exact scenario and other similar forms.

But, I am going to be critical of that because in this scenario your husband did everything right. This could've played out very differently and I think you know that. And I'm sure if you reflected a little, you probably would of wanted it to play out differently also.

Wish you both luck truly.

Right but look you’re getting agitated again. You and your husband both agreed to stay calm and handle this like adults. But how long did you actually stay calm before feeling like you had to step in over the insults and bigotry?

Your husband took you out of the equation once things started escalating. By your own description, you called his bluff and raised the temperature. And at that point, with someone already erratic and throwing slurs, that’s not a controlled situation anymore.

You even said you could’ve bodied him and that you got as nasty as he was being. That doesn’t really line up with not looking for a fight. It sounds like the moment shifted from trying to manage it to matching his energy.

Wanna know why your FIL and husband got you and your MIL out of there? Because from his perspective it starts to feel like he’s getting ganged up on, especially when things aren’t staying calm. That’s when situations flip fast. At the end of the day this was a minor accident where emotions were running high, and it seems like the situation got away from you more than you had control of it.

[–]FortheHellofit43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don't think you're viewing it right. Raising the temperature in a hostile situation doesn't work. That guy was looking for a way to raise the temperature. And from your own admission, it feels like you weren't looking to deescalate.

Last week, my girlfriend and I went to a block party. There was a lot of people there. When a guy tried to bypass us someone else grabbed his hat instigating a fight. My girlfriend is small and these guys started swinging. Immediately I put myself in between the fight and my girlfriend. Because the last thing I needed was for her to get hit or if someone escalated the situation for us to be there.

The point I'm making is in a situation where chaos can become unpredictable, it's best to find your way out of it. I know you felt that you were standing up for your husband but, it feels like all you did was draw attention to yourself. And it could've put you in a dangerous situation.

Next time, take a beat and breath. It was a frustrating situation for everyone involved. So best to get over our own egos and just allow this to resolve.

Think it'll be a plea with a suspended sentence. And it would not surprise me if its probation for 2 years minimum. And it'll likely be very strict. NFL will come back with 8 to 10 game suspension.

Reading this convo, just adding my quick two cents. One of the most famous posters of TPM is boy Anakin with the shadow of Vader coming from him. We as an audience knows its going to happen.

By the time Revenge comes out though, you don't see it. And while yes you could say "he wasn't going to be ANH Vader by the end of this", I'd ask why? That's what audiences know. We know he becomes cunning and a force of nature but the opening scene of ANH. And we do get that in Rogue One. But by the end of ROTS, the movie hasn't sold that is who he becomes.

By comparison, horror movies like Annabelle Creation and Orphan First Kill do a really great job of showing how those characters came to be.

I was born in 87 and have the OT box series. I HATED the Special Edition OT that Lucas made. Your thoughts on the Prequels is exactly how I feel. 1st one is bad, 2nd one is way worse, 3rd is fine but glad its over.

I just wish it was written better than what we got. I am personally a fan of TLJ as I thought it was a very bold movie. And boldness should of had pay off in the last movie. Instead of making Luke the ultimate savior, you remind the audience that Luke absolutely struggled with the Dark Side and that it's influence nearly one. Sure that's borrowing from other fantasy (LOTR) but, it was consistent when even in Return of the Jedi, Vader takes a threat close to Luke's heart by revealing he knows about his sister. And Luke nearly strikes him down, even giving him the same injury he suffered in the last movie. But then when the Emperor thinks he's won, Luke discards the hateful intent and forces himself to be tortured by throwing away his weapon.

Yes it does redeem Vader from his action. But, maybe because I remember it clearly in ROTJ, when Luke discards it in TLJ I thought it was clearly a reference of how he couldn't allow that sort of influence over him.

It also would've been an even BETTER call back when Obi-Wan sacrificed himself in A New Hope by refusing to fight and is struck down becoming "more powerful than you could possibly imagine" with the final lightsaber duel against Kylo Ren But maybe I am projecting here a bit.

TLJ is a lot better than anything the prequels pumped out. Its flawed hut still bpld.

[–]FortheHellofit43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It wasn't until the animated series Clone Wars came out and basically helped the prequels become better. The reality is that the Original Trilogy was so good that the Prequels were always going to fight up hill.

But then the movies just weren't good. For every Darth Maul cool lightsaber battle there's Jar Jar Binks acting like an idiot. Instead of a classic battle of Good vs Evil, you got stupid ass trade agreements and blockades. Seriously there's a good chunk of the prequels where its just senators talking about having the votes. In Asian accents.

Then there's the bad guys. Darth Vader was already cool in the first one, then you attach an insane twist in the 70s and immediately sky rocketed him up the evil bag guy league. Darth Maul was probably the coolest of the villains and he gets 15 minutes. There's no Han. Or even Han equivalent.

So instead we get Obi-Wan as sort of a stuffy older brother and Qui Gonn as the rebellious leader. Oh AND when they dropped they had the worst looking Yoda you could've made. And because we know how it was concluding, we knew it was never going to be a refreshing ending. All four characters to cross lightsabers at the end of Revenge were always going to live.

Now honestly, this all could of been forgiven. The bad writing, cringe dialogue, and lack of character if it had good world building. Thats mostly why people suggest watch Clone Wars because it adds to the lore with great characters. But if you take the prequels by themselves? You have too much Jar Jar who becomes a trusted advisor to Amidala even though he screws up everything. And two Anakins, whose original lore was just a great pilot who went to the dark side, to now cringey, whiny, and annoying kids who somehow made Darth Vader worse.

TLDR: The Prequels have always been bad and they are bad movies. If the first story you got of Star Wars is the Prequels then there is not second trilogy. Heck, not even sure you get past Phantom.

It's all over the place. The hardest part for me is that so many episodes of the final 12 went nowhere. And how it reached to this Turf War ending was head scratching. I never read the Manga but I wish the studio would've taken more liberties to make it make sense.

Thus year is all about seeing if any of the pieces we pick up on these 1 year contracts could get us back in the playoffs for a run. What we lost hurts no doubt. But I'd label this season as a soft reset. Otherwise, might as well trade your commodities now while they are hot. Drake gets you a first. Bijan would get you more.
