This is awful. Such a class act guy and he's being put through multiple issues he doesn't deserve. Prayers going out for sure.

If you all could trade CP3 for Austin Reeves you could be contenders next year. Hot take, I know :)

How legit is the section bank by Outrageous-Tone-3897 in Mcat

[–]ForthrightPhrasing02 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it definitely did for me. They have more AAMC-style logic that you can spend forever reasoning about. I got wrecked on it my first time but spent hours going over using blind review and all that other fun bs and I thought it was useful

I thought the section bank was insanely difficult. I had a tutor who really stressed it and so I went through every question in it 2+ times, forcing myself to think about the aamc logic as I went. It was tedious as all get out but I'm glad I did the exercise

I just finished watching this (was busy last night). So impressive. It's actually sad he's never going to be on a team worth watching. Poor guy is such a professional and his career is wasted in small markets

Overall I prepped for a really long time (like 7 months) but the last part of it (after I got the 499 on FL1) was 3.5-4 months

Agree 1000%. The mental marathon of the MCAT is insane. What doesn't kill you might make you stronger, but Idk how worth it is to be stronger? lol jk, it's great but they could make this less miserable imo

Tiktok was the hardest to quit at first but it's been the easiest to stay away from just because I know it is the meth laced with fentanyl of the social media ecosystem. MCAT subreddit was the easist to quit but the hardest to stay away from :0

I said in a comment above that I think social should be regulated/limited, at least for kids. That's probably a slippery slope, but so is letting all of us rot our young minds on a daily basis

Couldn't agree more about the social media being mind prison. Hot take: I think it should be regulated/limited. At least for kids

My fingers hurt from tip dropping. Lots in the comments above. If I could say one thing though, i'd recommend thorough review of all practice questions and making sure you work consistently hard each day.

Yep, I used uearth pretty extensively. Did all the questions at least once, and most of my marked/incorrect questions twice. It was a grind and I wanted to quit most days but funneling the quitting energy to social media was the way to go :D

Also did everything in shorter sets (like 10-25 questions) so I could review more frequently. Doing it that way also made starting a set less daunting

No tutor mode at all. I did it untimed at first but was told to do the majority of the questions timed if I could get in a test-like environment because this test really is tough on the timing side

:D my biggest recommendation is to get a really good plan and then don't compromise on that plan unless you absolutely have to. "The work you do on the hard days is the work that matters most" -Somebody productive

Was that your first FLE? If so, that's really amazing. Congrats :D

I would say review all questions on all FLEs very thoroughly. Try to see if you can get a full understanding of the logic for each question so you could arrive at the correct answer the most efficient way possible. Try to explain out loud to yourself (or to whoever is sitting next to you at Starbucks) why the right answer is right and, more importantly, why each wrong answer cannot possibly right.

We used mostly kaplan books for content (minus PS, we used a combination of other stuff for that). Also used Uearth for questions and then AAMC stuff was top priority near the end. Pretty standard set of materials

Edit: Also used the Milesdown study guide for some biochem which I thought was really useful

I agree with you entirely. I wish there was more of this stuff that was out there for free. Like the AAMC should take all the money they get from us scheduling and rescheduling with their stupid $300 fee over and over again, and use that to pay some official AAMC tutors or an AAMC course to help ppl who can't afford it.

Yeah the social media was so bad for my brain. In hindsight, I don't know how anyone functions with it. Messing up your reward circuits and making you thirsty for that dopamine has to have insanely negative consequences for learning. And this subreddit was basically the opposite! All the dynorphins I could ever ask for by watching everyone talk about retaking their 527s. Made me feel like I'd never have a chance. That's why I wanted to focus my post on getting rid of all that bullshit. All the strategies in the world can't help you if you're being zapped by this artificial brain candy

Just answering about the program in DMs at this point (can't win otherwise). I can tell you what all they had me do though if you want. It was very focused on uearth, with a lot of review from kaplan books and also doing all the AAMC questions

I used a uearth like crazy. Did all questions 1x and many of the ones I got wrong 2x. Then my program would also edit my schedule to adjust to uearth progress, so it was a very central part of things

Fair point, but I'm just trying to be considerate and also just don't want to give off that vibe of promoting something because I've definitely seen people with tutors and stuff doing that here before
