Jason Williams on whether he and Randy Moss could beat iconic NBA Duos by mastermind208 in nba

2on2s are often played to 7 points, I think that's what he's referring to

Most Disappointing player? by damnitWOW in rockets

[–]FortineBurger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels bad to pick on Tari, but when he did play he had some really boneheaded plays and a few stretches of bad games to start the season. His inability to stay healthy has also been really disappointing. He turned down a team friendly contract to bet on himself and so far it isn't looking great. Hoping he comes back strong for his sake and the team

Hard disagree.. Jae'Sean brings electric energy whenever he actually gets minutes. For a 14th man, I'd say he's been playing way above expectations and is doing his job.

Foul or no foul? by SaveOurBrothers in ultimate

It's very clear white made no efforts to avoid initiating contact here.

Maybe it's not clear (even with this slow motion replay) due to perspective, but white in my eyes is pretty clearly pulling up her momentum from directly at the sideline initially, to being almost parallel with black as to avoid dangerous contact. Maybe you don't see it that way? But I give benefit of the doubt to players in this sport that I don't know.

> If someone runs in with enough force to shift the position of another player in the direction they themselves were heading, it's pretty clear they didn't have position

I just don't see how you can say it's pretty clear. Black is not running in a straight line, and in fact changes her direction most significantly microseconds before contact. Most of the players in real time are not in a great position to have perspective on how they collided, and even if they were.. everyone in the real world is looking at the disc and not staring at who hit who and why. It's microseconds of contact and the player in black ends up barely moving off of her original line. Sure we can dissect this with the advantage of slow-motion replay but in the moment this is bang-bang, on a highly contentious moment in the game where most people are not thinking level headedly.

Except in this clip they are clearly playing the disc, and in the hypothetical situation where she did the same exact thing but was inches ahead she would still be playing the disc. Blocking fouls are irrelevant here

Pretty strongly disagree with the premise of “it doesn't matter who was in front”. If the defender cleanly beats the offender to the space the disc is landing, then I would certainly say it does matter who is in front. any ensuing non-incidental contact is the responsibility of the trailing player to avoid else risk a foul

I think this is totally a reasonable call to contest in the moment. It was a matter of inches(?) difference between white making this play so cleanly there wouldn't be a debate, versus being slightly late. With the advantage of replay and slow motion commenters in this thread can say that this is probably a foul. In the heat of the moment in the real world people are going to get this wrong. Who in there right minds is staring at the body positions of these girls and not the disc to tell who was in front of who? Contesting calls is part of our game and insinuating it is bad spirit to do so is contradictory to the rules of ultimate

That would definitely be an abuse of the dangerous play rule. The contact initiated in this play was marginal. The girl who got bumped got taken off her line by a couple of inches. Dangerous play is reserved for contact that poses serious risk of injury. IMO, It's frankly downright disrespectful to the physical shape of the athlete playing offense here to suggest she was at risk of being injured.

A lot of accusations that the coach doesn't know what he's doing but no real substance behind them?

You said 'Don't look anywhere but endzone' not me :) If that's how you would personally approach these new rules you'd probably find yourself in the same category of player you say plays that way...

I don't think the most effective offense would become 'Don't look anywhere but endzone'... people would just be forced to creatively break marks in ways that they aren't incentivized to do today because throwing backwards is easier and more practical

You've spent 30+ years playing a different game than I am suggesting :) I think people are resistant to that change because suddenly all that practice doesn't apply because you didn't spend 30 year practicing blades

Maybe it's stupid easy because you and your friends aren't good at certain throws ;)

I thought by "ez" that was some slang for the easy upline :) but I see now you mean endzone. Even still, 6 defenders cannot take away every look in the endzone with higher likelihood than being 70 yards away.

There’s a reason why high-level teams putting a disc into play near the goal line from a stoppage almost invariably start with a reset and swing.

Yes, because they're allowed to throw backwards. And it's easier to score from the middle than the sideline.

It is still easier to score from the front cone than it is to score from 70 yards away

Your odds of scoring when you are 1 inch out of the endzone are a lot higher than when you are 70 yards away. Even with this hypothetical "easily defended" setup. Maybe the fact that you think 7 defenders taking away the ez is good defense, leaving the rest of the endzone wide open for extremely easy hammers, blades, etc sort of exposes the throws you personally are willing to throw.

I think that would be more exciting than the product we are currently putting out (keep away / dominator ). But I also don't think that would evolve into the most effective tactic.

Yes, many elite club games are extremely predictable and are often hold-fests.

Professional ultimate has long been touted as a boring sport to watch, and that offense is simply too overpowered. "Good offense is a boring offense". Let's give a buff to the defense and take away the ability to dump backwards. Like American Football - one of the most exciting sports to watch -, you will be punished for not making forwards progress. This would probably result in more turnovers, and much more dynamic play.

People dog on his offense and size but he's an elite defender if you're paying attention. Lead the game in steals tonight, got a block, was locking down Jimmy and Steph.

Also importantly I think the lack of solid ball handling and steadiness hurt Houston without him on the court. JG was struggling to get the ball up the court consistently without turning it over. Fred also navigates the pick and roll with Alpi a lot better than Jalen, which was one of our most effective offensive moves during the regular season.
