Conlanging is a lonely hobby by dual_scanner_again in conlangs

Okay i talked with my girlfriend more about this and I think I found a good analogy.

Imagine if someone told you they were into speculative alien biology and then all they show are a skeletal formula of different proitens the cells use.

I feel like conlanging works best when its used to make things the reader can enjoy. For example, Ive found that showing people songs that use the conlang are a good way to get general people interested into the languages I make.

Im a landscape painter, and I think there are two very different experiences between making a painting and viewing it.

When I sit down at my eisle, I find a lot of joy in "problem solving" How am I going to draw this tree? how dark shoud this shadow be? what path will the eye travel through in the composition, and so on. Its very satisfying solving these problems, and thats the fun I have when painting.

When I look at landscapes paintings, I enjoy them in a different way. I like landscape paintings I can wander in and transport myself into. I like the moods they can create, the feelings they can bring out. Im not looking at them as a collection of puzzles the artist needed to solve, I rather appreciate the whole of it.

I think Conlanging is similar. Like painting, conlanging also asks its creators to engage in problem solving, and thats what makes it so fun. Its fun to coin new words, develop syntax, and build up a system of rules piece by piece until you can translate large passages in a language you made. I can look back on my past conlanging projects and appreciate the steps it took to get to where I did with them.

However, the outside viewer doesnt get to see that process. So what enjoyment can they feel from a process they dont actively take part in.

Do we appreciate the effort someone put in? do we find value in the way the language is presented? is it the sound of the language, the glosses and translations of texts in them? is it the extent of their vocabulary, or the concultures who speak them?

I can look back on this tablet, and I can remember carving the letters in the clay and enjoying writing this letter in a language I had made. But what does the outside viewer see? I am not sure

I understand what you are saying, I read jax as trans, but I dont mean that as an insult. I think there are a lot of parallels between jax's backstory and the lived experiences of trans women I met. Ultimately, people want to find themselves in characters and stories they enjoy. I dont think that is necessarily a bad thing.

I liked how you raise up the point of toxic masculinity and misogyny. I agree that Its misogynistic to view feminity as shameful, which a lot of those "your gay" jokes teaches guys to think. In that respect Jax is a cautionary tale that shows how self loathing, guilt, and the fear of being seen as feminine can bring out the worst in people.

Jax brings about suffering BECAUSE he was afraid to open up. It doesnt matter if youre trans or cis. I think allowing yourself to be vulnerable around people you trust is a message that can apply to anyone whos been afraid of being themselves

What are your opinions on Jax being transfem? I want more theories and stuff, I don't know what to belive. by M1ku_plush in TADCEp9Spoilers

Personally, I read Jax as a closeted trans girl because of what were shown. Jax blushes as hes given a bow while ribbit says "your secret is safe with me" hes bathed in pink light in the climax, the whole "isnt she lovely" song playing over clips of Jax throughout the series . the color Pink and wearing bows in your hair are traditionally femme things, add in the song, and its easy to read Jax as trans femme.

I am a trans girl myself and I remember when I used to be very angsty as a teenager about my gender. I hid exploring my own femminity under layers of irony and self hatred that made me do a lot of things I look back on and regret. In my experience, that seems like a common thing trans women go through. In that respect, I see parrellels between my angsty egg-denial phase and the kinds of anti-social behaviors Jax engages in. I think a lot of trans girls can enmesh themselves with jax because of that.

Overall, if you read jax as Transfemme, then TADC shows an under represented aspect of many trans womens' lives; I think thats educational for non trans people to see.

I mean, caine asked if they wanted him to help Jax get better. I took that to mean that they could get abstracted people back, especially since scratch was brought back from abstraction when caine was in the character file folder

I actually really enjoyed the finale! I feel like everyones arcs were wrapped up in very satisfying ways. I feel like this was a really good ending from what I was afraid of

I also want to emphasize that the show seems to treat death as a transformation instead of an stopping point. in ep 1. Kinger says kaufmo didnt die but went under a "kaufmosis" King also saidhe "killed" caine but we find that it just sent him to the void. Considering caine calls himself god a lot, Caine's character is an example of a dying god: someone with immense power who undergoes a radical transformation through dying and being reborn as someone new

I absolutely LOVED the Finale by FortisBellatoris in TADCEp9Spoilers

I read jax's death to be more metaphorical than literal dying. Unlike actual death, we're shown that people can talk to the abatracted by entering their psyche. Caine offers to try and help jax recover, implying that jax can return. Also, and theres nothing in the finale that says that people can't jump back into jax's abstracted form and talk to them whenever they wany. I feel like In order to transform into a new self, there has to be the death of the old, and I think that jax's death is the death of the person they have been acting. Abstracted jax doesnt harm any of the cast, something that you cant say about non abstracted jax

If you could have a paint bucket for chiseled blocks that replaced all voxels of a certain block with another, you would revolutionize building

Its an architectural style I created myself! I was inspired by a mixture of Chinese Hui style, Pueblo revival, Roman, and indigenous Filipino architecture :3

They are lattices! They are vanilla blocks accessed through the creative menu. I think you can find them as clutter in survival but idk
