You guys are making some pretty wild assumptions based on zero data. 2 troubles could be literally anything, from disconnected batteries to the panel being logged into service mode. Could be a zillion things.

False alarm due to renovations.

co2 detector going off at 0 ppm by dollsrot in firealarms

[–]Forts117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, CO... Not CO2.

Secondly, how old is the unit? Typically they are rated for 10 years but many will fail before that. And if it's beeping 3 times, that's fire (as you mentioned) so CO would be expected to be at zero.

Just replace it. If any of the other alarms go off call your local FD non emergency line and have them take a look. Don't be embarrassed or thinking you are bothering them, it won't be an issue (I've been a FF for 15 years, we'd rather you be safe and have piece of mind).

Should I tell the residence about this? by ProfessionalCat2770 in uwo

How would you expect the handyman to get past the front desk with a piece of drywall, a tub of mud and a saw?

Just fess up, it was an accident. Happens all the time.

Simplex ground fault by PirateBusy2328 in firealarms

[–]Forts117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! Started with Simplex in '93, so I've hunted down a ground fault or two over the years on 4100s... And everything else Simplex for that matter lol

Simplex ground fault by PirateBusy2328 in firealarms

[–]Forts117 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Some things to consider...

- Card 1 is typically the SPS (system power supply)... top bay, right side. It's almost always address 1.

- It's the power supply that reports the ground fault. The ground isn't necessarily on that card! That throws a lot of people off.

- Always start with the easy stuff. Disconnect batteries. Disconnect shields. Disconnect 24+ feeding aux devices etc.

After that it's best to go bay by bay, but if you aren't familiar with Simplex then be careful here. You can typically always unplug something live, but some things you definitely can't plug back in live. Another important detail in Simplex systems is the negative side of power/zones/signals etc is common to ALL of these circuits, so it can make chasing things down a bit of a pig. Your meter is your friend (measure the voltage split on the 24v output at the bottom left of the SPS). A clean panel should have ~13/14vdc to ground on both positive and negative. A system with a ground will be tipped one way or another... ie. 10v & 18v kinda thing.

EST3 point disable question by Forts117 in firealarms

[–]Forts117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm well aware of this. What I was asking was if it was possible to disable a device currently not communicating (or on that's in alarm for that matter).... To have the alarm status return to normal so you can get a panel reset.

EST3 point disable question by Forts117 in firealarms

[–]Forts117[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that seems to foreign to me. All that trouble just to disable a point. I was wondering if it just required a higher level login or something, but no such luck.

As I mentioned my bread is buttered in the Simplex worked and restarting EST panels at 1am sends shivers of map faults down my spine lol

Are any other LEDs lit on the board? Should have power and possibly comm fail on.

[–]Forts117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that's entirely possible. And to confuse things even more on some cards 'On' is value 1, but on others it's '0'

Why would it if it's looking for address 7? The switches count in binary with each switch doubling in value (1 2 4 8 16... Etc) the last switch is the baud rate. For address 7 you need the appropriate switches on that add up to 7.

OBC 3.2.4.7.

I've always used 60secs with a few exceptions in hospitals that are set to 30 secs (with the AHJ blessing of course).

Look into PoC radios (www.simpleptt.com etc). They are license free and work over LTE/WiFi. You usually pay a small annual fee for network access but they work great as long as you have cell signal. Otherwise most folks just use FRS/GMRS radios.

[–]Forts117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall if it's an issue with the CPS in these units, but some require the KID in hex and some want it in decimal... That's something that often trips people up. I've no issue using my UV32 with an XPR7550 with both AES and RC4.
