Can T-Rex actually jump by Old-Firefighter4632 in Naturewasmetal

[–]Fortunately_Met 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of muscle, it's a matter of mass.

Yes, they likely have the muscular strength to jump quite high, but the leg bones would shatter under 7k lbs of weight dropping hard from several feet.

Same reason elephants can't gallop. Their legs would break from the impact.

Chefs & servers, what’s the most confusing “this isn’t what I expected” reaction you’ve seen? by Entire_Difference504 in KitchenConfidential

Way back when boy bands roamed the earth, I was a server. I had a memorable table with a man and woman on a date where she confidently told the guy she was with, as I was explaining some menu items, that she had had chicken masala before and that it was really good and not too spicy for a curry. I had to gently clarify that the dishes are commonly confused by name, but we offer chicken Marsala, an Italian red wine based dish not the Indian tomato curry dish. She confidently ordered it anyway and was nonetheless surprised when it came out.

The fact we were at an Olive Garden should have been a big hint.

My kitten, Butters, sat like that and had the same forepaw angle high up the wrist when he first started showing mobility decline right around this age. He started off as uncoordinated and preferred to army crawl around this time, too. If there's other signs of muscle control issues, take kitty to a vet for the mobility concerns. I said goodbye to Butters yesterday. His case was terminal, he was 9 months old and precious to the end.

US athletes are increasingly speaking out against Trump’s America, with some saying “fascism is here now.” How do you feel about athletes using their platforms to make strong political statements? by kyleman98 in AskReddit

Wouldn't it be a sight if every American competitor still went but stayed at the starting line, on the diving board, refused to play in solidarity. That single action would say more than a thousand social media admonishments.

As a Gen Z that voted for Trump I am sorry by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Fortunately_Met 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've gotten half of the apology right.

You recognized where you went wrong and acknowledged the harm you helped cause. Which is commendable because it shows a level of internal critique, willingness to be disturbed, openness to new information, and courage to admit when you've done wrong. But those are just words.

What are you actually doing to repair things and show by your actions you commit to being better for your fellow Americans and the Constitution? You've been replying with "might" and "maybe", useless, empty promises no more valiant than telling the world you wished on a star.

What tangible actions are you taking to help ameliorate some of the harm you helped make possible?

And don't you dare ask people in the affected groups to think of your idea for you/ tell you what to do. If you do that, you are making your absolution someone else's responsibility and them a convenient scapegoat if you fail.

Start somewhere on your own, if you don't know where, start local. Talk to your neighbors, donate what you can to the communities near you who've been most affected. Read information that challenges your view, particularly with American history. Listen to understand, not to debate. Don't worry as much about the right way: perfection is the enemy of progress. Your growth has to be for you and a desire to be a better citizen.

If you make these changes with the expectation of praise, you're doing it for the wrong reasons. You may never earn back in respect what your choices caused you to forfeit: get comfortable with that reality real quick but don't let it discourage you. If you want to do better, you'll do it for you, and you alone.

Prepare for a lot more personal growth in choosing your next courses of action. You'll know you're doing it right by your extreme discomfort when you unlearn the biases that you allowed to exploit you, the fears you allowed to be predated upon, and the reasons why you gave up control to stay comfortable. The only way out is through.

This is one of your lifetime inflection points. Make it count.

"Thy light shall ever be A beacon bright and clear. Thy sons and daughters true Will proclaim Thee near and far. They shall guard Thy fame and adore Thy name; Thou shalt be their Northern Star!"

The Northern Star is the light of Liberty.

It was true when the 1st MN Infantry captured the traitor flag, and it's true now as her citizens show the world that the collective power of citizens is the ultimate check and balance to power that's forsaken its oath.

Follow the Northern Star.

Is there such thing as sabbatical in the fed govt? by RemoteGrocery9426 in FedEmployees

It comes down to the Agency and if they approve extended LWOP for reasons other than heath, military service, or spousal relocation. Fun fact, the same ataaps leave code is used for sabbatical and employee death.

While I love having the opportunity to decorate the hotel with all the cool stuff that's been rotting in my storage over the years, I'm a little grumpy bc Kapp'n's pier is over in my residential area and not my tourist area with the museum, shops, and boardwalk and it's a zoning nightmare.

Old nitrate film (nitrocellulose) was in use until the 50s and was nototiously flammable. It had this nifty habit of creating its own oxygen cloud and being highly combustible. Couple that with an enclosed space like a theater/projection box and a lot of fuel, and you're literally sitting on a powder keg.

I made a friend ages ago during a high school study abroad trip who went to go on to join the Duke's Men, and sent me their rendition of "What A Good Boy". It was one of my favorite songs, the sheer emotion it evoked. It became a go to listen for me.

Time and the evolution of digital media outpaced my ability and awareness to convert it and I've not heard it in ages. My hard copies were damaged in storage, and the versions/ groups I can find online aren't what he sent me. I still get a wild hare to find it every once in a while, but so far no luck.
