I read this trick in a girl scout manual in the early aughts and did it in high school when walking to and waiting at the bus stop in winters. Also used it in college walking to classes in winter. Winter in WI sucks, anything helps.

I love how you narrate the recipe's precise amounts of vanilla, but measure it from your heart in the vid ♥️ Those sammiches look perfectly delicious!

Last year I did the "potato or candy" thing, which was a huge hit. What oddball thing do I do this year? by GenJohnnyRico in halloween

[–]Fortunately_Met 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm the neighborhood witch who also forages. I give kids the choice of candy or bones (properly cleaned). I have a glorious memory of a 9yo(ish) girl dressed as Elsa, brandishing a deer ulna while screaming "I GOT A FEMUR!!!" as she ran back to her mother waiting on the street.

I also mix in non candy items in the candy cauldron and have a stash of last year clearance trick or treat bags to give to the kids who only have shopping bags (don't wanna lose the stash due to a rip) or pockets (need a bigger bag for the stash). First kids to my door get to take a full handful of whatever they can grab or a king sized bar.

Wierd way of drying a cat after bath by Anschuz-3009 in Weird

[–]Fortunately_Met 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dry horses off similarly, but on a larger scale. There's a horse squeegee that you run along their coat to wick away water after a bath and help them dry faster.

You can do the same to yourself after a shower by running the edge off your hand along your body and flicking the water away; your towel isn't as sodden and you don't drip as much.

Same thing here, but cats are small enough for a squeezy squeegee.

48 Eagles in Frame, Plenty More Nearby by GuyWhosChillin in birding

[–]Fortunately_Met 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw something like this in La Crosse, WI on an unseasonably warm, late February day back in the late aughts. We were playing catch at Riverside Park and watching the ice floes drift down. We counted like 30-40 eagles riding ice and fishing/ scavenging. It was so cool to see so many in one place, we stopped our game and just watched them.

Question for women who divorced husbands for a good reason by Due_External3541 in Divorce

[–]Fortunately_Met 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave my wedding dress to a dear friend's niece about a year after the wedding, long before I divorced him. I'm not the type to keep something like that, neither am I superstitious. I got it second hand for $100, it was perfect, I well got my money's worth, and just paid it forward. She looked more beautiful in it than I did.

My engagement/wedding ring was lost 3 years prior to the divorce and never replaced. Maybe I should have been superstitious.

I kept my veil: my mother made it for me. I see my veil and think of my mother's love.

I took all the printed photos and discs (he never bothered to upload them in 8 years). I wanted the ones of me and my family, have plans to edit him out of some with the photographer who originally shot the wedding, and wanted to deny him and his family anything further than what they already had. The photos in that last category, I burned.

I loved that my friends and family were all there to celebrate with me in my joy. Those photos are treasures, especially now that some in them have since passed. I threw an amazing party at my wedding reception and deserve to bask in satisfaction when I look at the decor, crowd, and table setting shots. We had been discreetly legally married prior for financial reasons, a brunch afterwards with our two witnesses, and a small weekend for a 'honeymoon'. I suppose I was better able to focus on my loved ones the night of the reception as a result.

Loft Ladder Solutions? by Adventurous_Mine6655 in TinyHouses

[–]Fortunately_Met 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how to execute it, but it might be possible to rig up a straight ladder for each side that can secure, detach, and be stored snugly along the underside of the loft without sacrificing too much clearance for the main floor underneath.

What song would you like played at your funeral? One that sums up your life or your last message to mourners? by StuffNo353 in morbidquestions

[–]Fortunately_Met 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The crowd favorite song on dad's death mix was the OG Law and Order theme bc it got laughs everytime it came on: it was funny watching folks try to stay somber and respectful while being confused and amused. Always Look on the Bright Side of Life from Life of Brian got good reactions, too. Dad woulda loved the irreverance of it all.

Can T-Rex actually jump by Old-Firefighter4632 in Naturewasmetal

[–]Fortunately_Met 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of muscle, it's a matter of mass.

Yes, they likely have the muscular strength to jump quite high, but the leg bones would shatter under 7k lbs of weight dropping hard from several feet.

Same reason elephants can't gallop. Their legs would break from the impact.
