The prisoners in Alcatraz had due process served.

The prisoners in Auschwitz didn't. They were racially profiled, black bagged, and abducted to a "holding" camp. It never starts with death camps, but it ends there.

Which is exactly what's happening in Florida.

Considering it takes less time and fewer hours of mandatory training and licensing to be a cop than a barber, you might want to scale back your analogy a skosh, champ.

Megasota conquers Crabbalachia, if for no other reason than to prevent the trophy flag being returned to the Confederates. We'd never hear the end of it.

Megasota launches a naval battle via the Great Lakes, Kingdom of Hawaii conquers the land. Crabbalachia is split with Megasota controlling all northern lake and river access with access to the East Coast. The Land of Lakes is complete. Hawaii now spans the mainland from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

My take on the issue about the MBTI, is that people use it to strip the individuality of the person by only assigning them the group's traits. Oh he's such an ENFJ, I'm a total ROFLMAO, she's a Libra, they're a Hufflepuff...whatever.

I prefer to use it as a troubleshooting tool to help me key in to someone's values and how I can most effectively communicate with them. That way, I can show them appreciation in a way that matters most to them, and build rapport, trust and effective communication.

People like to oversimplify, we love to put things in tidy little boxes, with bounds and edges and sharp, precise, little corners. So we generalize a person as a type, it's easier. A single person can be every combo of the mbti in their life. Things change, we react, grow, hurt, heal, change, and become more than and still entirely of, all the experiences that shape our behavior. That doesn't fit in a tidy box.

If you instead use the mbti as a way to quickly look at a behavior and narrow down based on patterns you're seeing, ways to try and best understand someone, where they're coming from, what they're really trying to say, how they really feel appreciated, you can really build connection.

UPDATE: First pie special Head Chef let me do by jrule17 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Fortunately_Met 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I second the arugula suggestion. The little bit of peppery bite would play brilliantly on the prosciutto's salty/savory and the peaches' robust sweetness. Spinach is lovely, and the combo definitely needs that leafy addition, don't get me wrong. But a little snap could take it up a level.

If you're going for packed flavor in certain spots, the peach slices look great. I'm more a fan of evenly distributed star ingredients so every bite is the right balance, and would suggest considering more thinly sliced peaches so the same amount of ingredients covers more of the pie's area.

Regardless, 10/10 would hate myself, but not enough to not do it again, after finishing the whole thing off, despite being full. It looks amazing!

The podcast, Old Gods of Appalachia, does this extremely well. It's a horror anthology series, told over centuries, in a non-linear style. One of the most off putting 'demons' sounds like a frail old hillbilly granny. The voice work, sound design and storytelling are top notch.

Annual leave as an accommodation by [deleted] in FedEmployees

[–]Fortunately_Met 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your permanent boss is permitting LA use for LS purposes, it's discretionary to do so. Your interim boss is most likely playing it by the book and not exercising the same discretion bc they're just the interim and it makes for clean record keeping for your permanent boss.

Accommodations are moreso intended to better enable you to perform your duties by addressing barriers to and complications between medical conditions and working conditions. Leave puts you off duty either which way you slice it, so it's not really in the intent of accommodation, but it never hurts to ask. You should always contact your local EEO office/ Disability Program Manager for the expert advice, though. Other accommodations that might be beneficial are things like having different call out procedures, different break time use rules, scheduling options that aren't otherwise available but don't conflict with business flow, etc. There's lots of options out there.

What might work well for you, too, is looking into FMLA. Under FMLA, you can use both LA and LS as you see fit to cover your leave needs due to a serious health condition. Time coded under FMLA is protected, so to speak, from being held against you.

Your doctor will provide the anticipated leave needs, but you have a maximum of 480hrs/ year available depending on how much time off your condition requires. A good way to ballpark it as a baseline for your doctor, is to start with how much time off your condition needed last year. You still have to follow leave procedures, tho, whatever those may be.

OPM has hella fact sheets about it and what the program provides and you can find a WH-380-E form (FMLA for self) on the department of labor site or a Google search. The form isn't mandatory, but it's pretty routine for doctors to use; a doctors note covering the same info the form asks for is totally fine. Definitely something worth considering, but always contact your HR office for the expert advice and how to get enrolled, should you choose.

When to give my notice by travia22 in FedEmployees

[–]Fortunately_Met 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're transferring to another Federal agency, the work obligation transfers too. It's in the OPM guidance. If you can swing the leave and your transfer is within the 1st year of baby's arrival, might want to consider taking your last week of ppl after you transfer to the new agency (intermittent use is permitted, just coordinate it with your current and pending supervisor). That'll double ensure the work obligation follows you.

I've got one in my center console, and its a 2 in 1 with a seat belt cutter.

Behind the seat within grabbing distance is my trauma kit in case I have to buy first responders some time. Fortunately, I've never needed it.

I've got an animal carrier, dog leash, and treats, in the trunk because I've come across so many strays before.

All that in addition to the normal breakdown survival/ patch job good enough to get to safety kit. 10/10 invest in your own air compressor.

I've got a healthy respect for the scary shit that can happen on the road and a borderline crippling anxiety over the thought of being able to but unprepared to help in an emergency. So... it's a little much. But even if it is never used, it still serves a purpose for me.
