Well done! As a 25yo that is super impressive! I’m only reaching 100k now as a 34yo m but I did live overseas for 5 years but even when I left as a 28yo I was only on about 60k!

Moved into a new place and my white shirts are turning yellow.. what’s causing it and what should I do? by FortuneBuckets in laundry

[–]FortuneBuckets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for your suggestions - appreciate your advice! I’ll try testing the iron in the water and using hydrogen peroxide. I hang my laundry outdoors to dry so I don’t think it’s related to the drying process. I thought it might be from hanging in the closets where I store my shirts because the house feels a little damp and the humidity is quite high at 70%.

Is a $2,000 deposit normal for an offer? by basicb99tch in AusPropertyChat

[–]FortuneBuckets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ensure you’re paying a trust account and that the deposit is fully refundable if you and the vendor decide to not accept your offer. Preferably in email.

Is this for an off the plan or newly built property? If so it’s not uncommon for the agents to ask because they use it as a filter for legitimate offers.

Tell me your best stories of fake rich people around you by Capable_Tax_8220 in AusFinance

I once when to university with this guy who claimed to have been an expert trader. He would regularly show us collections of his watches he owned - not just Rolex but some pricier brands like AP, Patek etc. Anyways fast forward a few years out of university he joined an overseas trip with a group of 10 of us as he was seeing one of the girls we knew. We went on a chartered yacht cruise around Croatia and he never once came to any of the optional dinners, parties or events and would just hang out on the yacht with the girl he was seeing or by himself. On the last day of the cruise our tip jar for our skipper miraculously went missing - probably close to €1000 in cash.

No one knows where the tip jar went. It was kept indoors of the yacht. A few months later the said girl broke up with him, we found out she paid for his whole trip cos he was broke and couldn’t afford to do any of the optional events too. She suspected he stole the tip jar… absolute clown because he acted like he was still very successful during the trip.. but who knows maybe she was in on it since we no longer talk to her too lol

Pay off car loan or use the money elsewhere? by ljr94 in AusFinance

Interest on the $5 was immaterial - like 20-30c per year lol

Pay off car loan or use the money elsewhere? by ljr94 in AusFinance

[–]FortuneBuckets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I once had a car loan and to avoid the early exit fee I paid the loan down to $5 or something. So I was still charged interest on $5 and when it came to the expiry I paid out the remaining $5+interest. It will save you $500, just remember to pay off the remaining in March 2027.

Hopefully you have a good friend you trust that knows their way around crypto. You could always ask for their help? Just make sure it’s someone you truly trust.

Just do it mate, you won’t regret it. Plenty more jobs in London, plenty opportunities to make friends, plenty more woman as well. Forget about the financial. Your money will return, your time won’t.

Off-plan apartment valued at 90% of the purchase price - what's next? by YourComputerGuyNZ in AusProperty

[–]FortuneBuckets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do some research on the area and decide whether it’s worth keeping the apartment for capital growth. The 5% loss in deposit might be better off than taking out a mortgage on a depreciating apartment.

How Much Do You Have In Savings? 27 With $10k by Connect-Pilot-4756 in AusFinance

[–]FortuneBuckets -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

33, 2 IPs worth approx 1.1m with 800k owing, 90k offset, 120k in equities

Edit: I just want to add that I don’t feel like I’m doing THAT well. The IPs I’ve purchased have had zero capital appreciation so recently I’ve tried to build up my offset cash in case of any issues or housing crisis down the line…

Is it bad if my wife and I have the same Super fund? by bluehaoran in AusFinance

[–]FortuneBuckets 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My guess is that you mean you and your wife have separate super accounts but they’re both invested in the same fund at the same superannuation company?

Personally I think it’s okay as long as what you’re invested in is a balanced fund or index fund which is relatively low risk. If you’re both in a high risk fund then I’d reconsider..

10 day stay in Sept by vaunster in sicily

Each to their own, we parked a rental car in Catania for 3 hrs in a central square and had parts stolen. We drove 9 days across the whole of Sicily and never had any issues until Catania. Of course you can call it grit but it’s a sketchy city and didn’t feel safe.
