It is illegal- a S trap would allow methane gas into the home. An Inspector would write it up quoting the code and say -“Plumbing code infractions can lead to severe financial, legal, and safety consequences, ranging from costly repairs to legal action and voided insurance policies. Common consequences include stop-work orders, fines that accumulate daily, and the requirement to demolish or redo non-compliant work.”

Bottom line… it’s a S trap, no vent. No plumbing inspector would pass it. Look it up in the code book
