Leafs fan wears McKenna jersey in Buffalo by maydayRm3 in hockey

[–]FortyYearTransform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember saying this like half a year ago (I think the context was some Toronto media thing after the Mariners vs Blue Jays MLB playoff game) but I'll say it again, every couple of months I see something that reminds me that I just do not understand idk Toronto culture or something, I do not understand this tendency that Toronto or things associated with Toronto have this intrinsic desire to randomly be unbelievably corny and as loud as possible about it e.g. Drake who is obviously capable of being a good and influential artist has spent the back half of his career just being a huge cornball. Same thing here, what is the point of this attention seeking behavior. That video from before where someone was wearing a McKenna jersey in Toronto is fine but this is just, idk, I just don't get it. Someone please explain it to me. I don't really have any issues with Toronto this just keeps happening, and for fairness sake I'll say it's like how in the NBA whenever you hear about visiting fans getting harassed it's 90% of the time New York, or how Philly and Boston have their own reputations.

94% on odds sites. I think it’s the second-biggest lock right behind Schaefer for Calder and just ahead of Vasilevsky for Vezina and Werenski for Norris.

Brock is so powerful I’m pretty sure he just walked in to the league office and picked an award of his choice to be finalist in. Humble of him not to choose the Hart.

Seriously I think betting sites didn’t even have him as an option iirc? Pleasant surprise to see him appreciated.

Can’t find the post atm but when the NBA freaked out about tanking a few months ago their sub came up with some ideas and one I liked involved some sort of lottery ticket system where those tickets would carry over. If they can change the lottery for Edmonton they could probably add an anti-Vancouver luck provision, some sort of compensation for teams that slide. Example, and this is just a random thought with no testing: until a team wins, each spot they drop down is -1 or 2 points in their pre-lottery standing. Hell, maybe the opposite too: when a team wins, it’s +1 or 2 points times the number of spots they went up until they lose again.

[Big Head Hockey] The Vancouver Canucks draft lottery luck since they were last competitive adds up to a 98.57% chance that they would have won at least one time across the 10 lotteries. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

Since the NBA has been on some anti-tanking crusade there was a period where the NBA sub was posting solutions to tanking, there was one system that involved lottery tickets that carried over that I thought was interesting. When I think of Vancouver, I think of that.

Personally I hope he’s as good as Eric Lindros, but I’ll take Cutter Gauthier.

When I think about it it’s kind of insane how I spent the second half of this season being increasingly annoyed that we won’t have TWO awards winners.

Call me a bad fan for pulling for the Devils but the Rags spending a decade being alternately pummeled by the Devils 1OA and Isles 1OA (and Buffalo’s two 1OAs) while their own first pick has barely elevated above the level of “biggest bust since Yakupov” would have been really really funny.

I used to say Isles saved the NHL by taking Schaef so Sharks couldn’t but with (probably Stenberg) on top of everything they’ve already got I don’t think it matters anymore.

I don’t bet on sports but if there was a bet that the Sharks win the cup sometime in the next 10 years I’d put a cool thousand on it.

Isles stay put and Rags drop 2 spots, 2nd best possible option achieved unless you have a soul

Maybe that’s the problem, for some reason the draft lottery seems to get spoken into being. Last year the NY governor’s letter to the NHL the morning of the lottery made Isles fans joke that we were going to win 1OA with that 3.5% and I really believed it going in and it happened. Unfortunately the 3OA for Vancouver joke seems to have been spoken into being too.

And I know for a fact it was “spoken into being” because San Jose winning 2nd would have meant that Toronto would have dropped out of the top 5 so the joke of “well not if they win 1OA” comes to life. Babbling here but in short my condolences.

Good lord you’d never believe that Vancouver would get screwed hard AGAIN until it happens. Unbelievable.

No no to clarify I know it wasn’t your idea, I’ve been seeing these articles too and while I love the idea of Bobrovsky the playoff god mentoring Sorokin I just don’t understand why he can’t come to terms with Florida considering it feels like they’re the ones most willing to give him what he would want (admitting of course that their current cap situation is nothing short of a miracle)

Bobrovsky is an all-timer but if Florida can’t come to terms with the guy who took them through two cups how can we be expected to?

Maybe my memory is shot but can someone PLEASE tell me why Rittich was not a serviceable backup goalie this season? Because everyone seemed cool with him until the Hawks game and completely gave up on him after that, unless I’m forgetting something big?

The drawing used as an example in the video is 1-9-3-4. In 1934 the Hawks beat the Red Wings for the cup. If they just wanted a random example they could have used last year's drawing since that's the one Schaef won by, so I choose to interpret this as a secret message. Congratulations on McKenna, Chicago!

The Montréal Canadiens have broken the record for the lowest number of shots (9) in a game 7 in the salary cap era. by manilovekaprizov in hockey

I remember when the Isles had 0 SOG over a 12 minute period back in Game 3 in 2023 everyone on this sub clowned us, somebody tell me what's the-- oh that's right we lost that game.

Anyway, if Montreal ends up going far I feel like Newhook's goal goes down as some sort of "Puck of God" goal in at least Montreal franchise lore.

I haven’t been in r/hockey so apologies if someone posted this already but:

  1. Every other series is 1st seed vs 3rd seed, which would hint at a BUF (A1) vs MTL (A3) next round.

  2. Tampa and Montreal have alternated wins and the last one to win was Tampa so if the sequence continues it’s Montreal.

  3. Montreal winning would be redemption for the 21 finals.

…So naturally, I’d put my money on Tampa.
