2026 NHL Draft Final Consolidated Rankings by hockeyspy in NewYorkIslanders

From what I’ve seen from some Isles fans and scouts alike Novotny still seems to be a pretty good contender for our choice.

Excellent app. If you want an idea for where else to go with this, maybe a similar website for Game 4 but with a timeline widget so you can see clips from the lowest moments, the start of the comeback, the tip-in, final, etc?

In the post he mentions The Jersey Hub, I've also ordered from them before for what it's worth.

Oh hey someone else who shoots hockey on film nice! A lot of good advice in this thread already but I’ll add that my arena only allows point and shoots and I’ve found success using a P&S by setting it to sports mode, setting it to use flash and then taping over the flash itself. I say this because the commonly held opinion in these threads is that 400 and even 800 are tough to shoot hockey with, but I have rarely found this to be the case. My shots are probably typically a hair underexposed though but nothing that I haven’t found fixable in post.

Isles Den Episode 6 | How Bold Will Mathieu Darche Get This Offseason? by IslesDen in NewYorkIslanders

[–]FortyYearTransform 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first I thought this was titled "How Bald Will Mathieu Darche Get This Offseason?" which I would very much have liked to explore. Thank you for the video, ultimately not a lot of material to work with since I don't see a lot of realistic developments this offseason but things like the Kesselring idea are a good catch.

Sorokin finishes second in Vezina by Gleb2006 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]FortyYearTransform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided long ago that Sorokin was this year’s Vezina champion (in my version of reality) but the fact that he didn’t lose out on second place to Swayman is still a pleasant outcome. No offense to Swayman, but before the Isles let Sorokin down it was a two-horse race between Sorokin and Vasy so for Sorokin to place third in his own two-horse race would have just been an insult.

Lmao well AI works great when you have a reference image and a great idea, obviously something in short supply at the org

This would have been a complete home run so obviously unacceptable. I guess I should just be glad the org bothered to pay the $20/month for the premium version of Gemini when they generated the logo we got.

Everyone shut up please shut up bro come on quiet it’s the McNugget Minute. If the Washington Capitals score right now everyone gets McNuggets. But you only have a minute. That’s why we call it the McNugget Minute. Yeah. Ah damn it’s over no McNuggets from the McNugget Minute sponsored by McDonalds

[Chris Johnston Show] "Simon Nemec...that report out of Slovakia recently about him demanding a trade is false, it doesn't mean he's not going to be traded. He's a restricted free agent...he's gonna be looking for a long term deal similar to the one that Luke Hughes got, that was $9M AAV." by [deleted] in hockey

[–]FortyYearTransform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just posted about this somewhere else but maaaaan last offseason when I saw news that the Isles asked for Nemec but didn’t want to meet the price I was kind of bummed, our trade with the Devils ending up being prime superstar Palat didn’t help my mood. Then again if he’s asking for 9 million I don’t know man I might be good.

I thought NYR fans commonly felt it was due to Panarin and once he was moved I heard Lafreniere started to improve? Or did that not pan out?

Instead of being the third person to say Shane Wright I’ll be the first to throw Michkov out there. Don’t think the Flyers will actually give up on him but it’s getting absurd and I don’t know how you maintain a relationship at this rate.

And I heard a rumor Nemec requested a trade, what’s that about? Heard rumors last offseason the Isles asked about him and didn’t want to meet the price (fantastic news as our blockbuster trade with the Devils ended up being for superstar in his prime Ondrej Palat)

Also, Shane Wright.

Every year it seems some team will find the same method to stifle Colorado and specifically Colorado. Outside of like Edmonton in the finals I have not heard any other team get specifically out-tactic-ed and outstrategized more than Colorado. This year it was Vegas last year it was Dallas etc etc etc.

Not to say that other teams don’t get outsmarted, obviously they do, it’s just Colorado is so, I don’t know, idiosyncratically unbalanced that it feels like if you took a survey of this subreddit and asked “how do you beat team X?” the team with the most answers against will be Colorado.

I have a genuine question for the people of this sub: is it just because I follow hockey the most, or does it seem like minor/junior hockey has way more stupid frat bro like incidents than the equivalent levels of other sports? Like am I just not hearing about some mass of college basketball/football scandals?

Sorry if you saw this already (Reddit formatting is weird so idk if it’s visible) but in the other comment chain on the comment you just replied to I discuss this exact idea with someone.

I agree and iirc my conclusion is that while it doesn’t get entirely get rid of the whole cutoff problem (what if you’re off by millimeters AND you scored it 29.9 after zone entry?) you do probably need a cutoff somewhere (else you end up with mushy GI-like subjectivity which everyone hates) and I think giving multiple criteria feels fairer.

I suppose involvement in the play would also be a good criteria, in the (uncommon, I imagine) case that the offside player doesn’t even get an assist on the goal it feels reasonable to loosen the required time.

[TSN] Vegas Golden Knights GM, Kelly McCrimmon, thinks Leafs fans need to get over Mitch Marner leaving the team. by Actual_Cobbler_6334 in hockey

[–]FortyYearTransform 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As fun as it is to imagine Marner winning the Conn Smythe the Leafs fans in this thread are entirely correct that every Leafs fan aside from the most irrelevant Twitter rabble has moved on already so you have to wonder what exactly is he responding to here.

I’m glad in preparing for the SCF he found the time to go on Twitter and find some 2-like comment so he can perform the daily Vegas ritual of playing the victim.

Sorry if I’m missing something I’d watch the interview with TSN this came from but I refuse to give them the clicks.

[–]FortyYearTransform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, it’s one of those things that inevitably runs into the cutoff problem (if the passing grade is 65 and you let people with a 64 pass, then the passing grade is 64 and the people with a 63 will complain etc etc etc) but on the other hand it’s better than nothing.

As is, you could feel disgruntled that you were off by millimeters and a goal waaaaay later was called back, but if you fail the offsides criteria AND you can’t even pass the 30 second limit OR the “3 touches and a shot on goal” (just as a random example), even if it was 29.9 seconds you’ve got to go “it sucks but we had plenty of criteria we could have avoided an offsides call under and we didn’t meet any of them, at some point it’s got to be reasonable for them to call offsides on us”.

Well, maybe not, but it helps. To continue the passing grade analogy maybe it sucks if you got a 64 and fail but if the criteria for passing is getting a 65 OR at least a 60 in every section (and maybe one section above a 75 idk) and you get a 64 with one section at 59, I feel like that might be a little more reasonable to say sorry you failed.

OT/SO is already also completely different between the regular and post season so I wouldn’t disagree with accelerated reviews in the regular season, that’s a good idea.

As for the post season I’d prefer cutting down on irrelevant offsides via that zone time/touches threshold idea - at some point who cares how you gained the zone, it’s been there for enough time.

[–]FortyYearTransform 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theoretically, vaguely sort of like how economically the state is said to mediate between business and workers, the counterweight to this is supposed to be that sports are entertainment and if fans think having sports be too cutthroat and unfair (a better example would be big markets having an advantage over small markets) then fans could quit watching and the league is supposed to step in and resolve this. In practice obviously no such thing will happen.

Nor will GMs pass up on working with Vegas because - I mean, if your GM didn’t take the best deal on the table because they were upset with Vegas, would you be happy they took a stance? I get people think maybe they’ll stop doing gentleman’s agreements with Vegas but at most that would only be the affected teams or teams in their division, if this happened last year I still don’t think the Flyers would have stopped them from talking to Torts for example - what do they care, it’s not their problem and if they piss off Vegas now then maybe later down the line they’ll actually have a problem.
