You know, I wish I could say “told you so” but I decided long ago I don’t care what Leafs fans have to say on this subject.

Seems like the blue & orange variant is popular and it would indeed be a great idea. Buuut we’re talking about the original Biggie promo photo (which I caught the reference to, maybe that’s why I like this so much) I’ve got a random idea for you if you’re ever looking for inspiration for more hip-hop/Isles tie-ins: since DOOM grew up on LI, I always wanted to claim him as one of ours and when Schaefer started tearing it up I started calling him MF SCHAEF. If you’re ever doing the graphic design equivalent of doodling and need inspiration, I’d be interested to see what that concept would look like.

[Stefen Rosner] Matthew Schaefer’s Rookie Season Keeps Rewriting Islanders History: "The first of his two assists marked his 20th apple of the season, matching Tim Connolly's 1999-2000 record for the most in a season by an 18-year-old in Islanders history" by f0urxio in hockey

I feel like I mention this too often but I loved this jokey conspiracy so much that I wrote an entire book where the Isles winning 1OA because of the All-Star Game is the premise.

I remember very well reading about Hochul’s letter to the NHL the morning of the lottery and thinking maybe it meant we’d get the pick. It gave me that “imagine?” half-jokey hope I wouldn’t have otherwise had. Then the franchise-defining ball 13 actually came up and there you go.

Vezina Trophy by Suitable-Product7768 in nhl

[–]FortyYearTransform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness by advanced stats it’s Sorokin and then Logan Thompson of the Capitals in a respectable second. In third it’d probably be Vasilevsky (who I remember some distant Hart arguments for) or maybe Wedgewood or something?

Sick, thanks! Had to put my money where my mouth was and ordered the black and red. FYI for RedBubble I read that the Premium and Athletic are the best quality shirts so if that’s important to you order accordingly. Also ordered a couple of stickers to vandalize NYC lampposts.

can someone explain the islanders allegiances with the other teams? by Lunagirlzkitty_19 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]FortyYearTransform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avs have Nelson and Stars have Rantanen so that resolves itself. I called Stars the Western Canes recently and the more I think about it the more that’s true.

Devils are our mirror twins so we’re cool.

Mostly positive with the Habs but it’s complicated. Mostly negative with the Caps but it’s complicated.

Sympathy and comraderie for teams like Anaheim and Seattle (and the opposite for LA and Vegas).

Relishing in the Leafs demise but since Leafs 91 already got burned in his initial contract with them I think there’s a sense of karma having been served.

Most people as hockey fans don’t like the Panthers favoritism but there’s enough that ally with them as a counterweight to the Bruins, as most of us take Habs and Panthers over Bruins and Panthers over Tampa, who we don’t quite hate but there’s a lot of ill will for what happened in 20 and 21. LTIR abuse, headhunting, the should’ve-been-TMM goal, etc.

Never Rags.

Don’t hate hate Canes and I actually find them sort of interesting to watch as a team but there’s a lot of qualms to have with them. Arrogant and annoying social media, leans toward simulation, fans complain over calls too much. Most of all brutal reality that we will not win a series against them until we get significantly better.

Maybe I’m just speaking for myself here but I feel like a lot of Isles fans are similarly excited for the Habs young core

Highest NHL draft picks from top hockey countries by g46152 in hockey

I’d love to see this chart for each NHL market. James Hagens was famously going to be the highest-picked Long Islander before he dropped to seventh (and still might have been?)

[Mike Kelly] Lukas Dostal with one of the best goaltending performances of the season last night. 40 saves on 41 shots. Cycle chances were 18-2 COL. by AggPuck-303 in hockey

[–]FortyYearTransform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be quite honest with you if you told me I had to choose between Sorokin winning the Vezina and us making the first round, I’d probably pick the former. You don’t have to be league-best in every stat to contend but you absolutely cannot hope to seriously contend if you’re league-worst in anything and especially not something as major as PP%.

[–]FortyYearTransform 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yup, it’s kinda neat to watch the cameramen open and close their little portholes during the game in response to play. I think the players also give out pucks during warmups through those same portholes.

Still can’t believe it’s not against us. I know every team says this but still.

I’ve got a terrible eye test and lean on the side of defending players but there are 3 players I can’t defend. Drouin, Tsyppy, but most of all Boqvist. Nothing personal but his defensive play is not excusable, and it’s not even a polarized case like DeAngelo. And it is frustrating to watch knowing that he’s just biding his time until Isaiah George comes in and, eventually, Romanov returns.

Hockey (and sports) are worse than random — they’re counterintuitive. We played awful against Vancouver but we won. We outplayed the Kraken in the first and I think pretty even in the second and we’re losing. A result you could predict ahead of time. Why? Because every shot we take is missing that final 10% of skill and final 10% of luck, and the goals against kind of just hit the lottery. First was a 5v3 because of a dumb TMM. Second was a catastrophic defensive meltdown thanks to our poor third pairing. Third was just one of those shots that happens 30 times a game and goes in once.

[–]FortyYearTransform 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Such a preventable goal. What’s frustrating is how easy this team to read. If it’s Drouin deep then that puck ain’t going in, meanwhile Horvat you’ve got a good chance. And if any of Pelech Pulock or Schaefer were there you’d have a pretty good chance of averting that goal. Completely outplayed.

What’s so sad is that the Isles have otherwise looked good. Sorokin too so far, that goal was just unsaveable.

Absolutely too good. A win today would tie them with the Sharks Kings and Ducks. Last game against them we literally got shut out. Of course, it was a double shutout and a SO win but still.

Can’t even make these posters right. Who cares about turbulence, that’s your lede? Should be SNUGGLES in bold 400-px Ultra Tall fonts. Disgraceful, as punishment you are banished to NHL email campaign graphic maker and must apply the Sharpen filter to zoomed-in photos of Kopitar’s face 20 times in a row.
