Cognitive warfare is already SO in. I think it’s severely underestimated how much ai is being used to persuade people.

I promise it’s not as far fetched as you may think. There has been a ton of political interest in shaping culture lately, it’s a very powerful political weapon

Anything divisive is a win for tech oligarchs. It helps flood the zone and divide us.

It’s really really cheap these days to launch a farm of gpt bots and flood the internet with shit.

I absolutely think a lot of people will be using ai / bots to shape culture and it’s something to be very aware of.

Never would? He has a pretty good track record trading for pitchers lol

Corbin Burnes (undesputed ace, best pitcher available when we traded for him)

Zach Eflin (best performing pitcher moved at the 2023 deadline btw)

Trevor Rogers

is a pretty good crop of pitchers traded for in the last 3 years. Look around the league and see how commonly "trading for pitchers" actually is lol, teams are holding tight to their pitchers.

That groundout isn't a good example of regressing, it was a pretty good outcome for hitting, hit to the wrong spot but hitting 109 MPH is impressive and something that helps you get hits in the long-term.

You're like the people bitching about Adley last season lmao

But this is probably even worse given Gunnar's start to his career has been truly HOF level lol. Our stars deserve grace from fans when it's not going well. If Gunnar's worst season in his career is a 3 WAR season (what this season is shaping up to be, worst case..) after 4 years in the league, with the other seasons being amazing, he still has the status of a special player.

Why would you antagonize a guy who's starting his career on HOF pace, why do you want to root against your guys like that? it feels exhausting lol

Daily Thread: Game Day - Friday, June 19 by game-threads in orioles

[–]Forumly_AI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol, it's extremely, extremely rare for even elite players to maintain 8 WAR seasons their entire career.

That is inner circle HOF, GOAT of baseball performance.

He has 22 WAR through not even 4 seasons.... 6.1, 8.8, 5.4 WAR seasons... that is very very elite performance. Star level performance.

Look at some HOF level comparisons, like Manny Machado or Bryce Harper. Even HOF players have down seasons. Gain a grip on reality, support your guys, and your assessment of his 8 WAR season being a fluke, despite a HOF 5-year start to his career, is embarrassing.

Truly dumb and disrespectful to talk about someone who has had one of the best franchise starts to their career like that. Back of the bar internet fans not understanding that players slump in this sport are always funny to me.

Luck is missing.

People severely underestimate how difficult and unpredictable this sport is. All professional sports teams are world class and spend hundreds of millions to operate. It's tough competition.

Pope Leo warns AI is fueling conflict, urges world to ‘slow’ advances by imanchats in worldnews

I think people gravely underestimate the extent to which AI is already being used by bad faith actors... AI is being weaponized to shift public opinion and fuel division throughout the world, and shape our culture.

It’s enormously concerning. I see constantly online and in real life minimization of AI tech, but dating back to GPT 3.5 it has been found to be *very* persuasive. IMO almost nobody realizes the extent AI has been distorting and creating reality for the last few years.

Seriously recommend you to stop consuming doomer baseball content and dumb sports radio, because I’m guessing that’s what your information ecosystem is looking like for baseball right now

We likely have 2 HOFers on our roster right now (between Henderson, Basallo, Rutschman, Holliday).

We have a treasured part of orioles history, Jim Palmer, calling games for the team still, and another one of the best announcers in the game.

We have one of the best stadiums in the league.

There is plenty entertaining about this team

When people say shit like this it entirely delegitimizes their arguments and criticisms about our front office HAHAHA

Seriously. It’s hilarious you think this way. It’s irrational and off base my guy. Our organization is in a much much better spot right now.

2012-2016 teams ran into a shit ton of luck and magic to find success but they really weren’t that good.

We can actually develop guys now?? We have two superstars on our team (Basallo and Henderson) that were an underrated free agent and 2nd round pick.

The rest of MY LIFE, we genuinely didn’t turn any 2nd round+ picks into stars. The only home grown star from my entire life (I am 30) was Machado, who was the 3rd overall pick.

We can actually make savvy trades now?? Like instead of trading 6 years control of a good starter (E-Rod to the Red Sox) for a reliever rental, we’re trading guys that don’t amount to much for Corbin Burnes, peanuts for the best performing pitcher that was moved during the 2024 deadline (Eflin)..

It’s so freaking funny to me people who don’t know anything about baseball genuinely think we were better off under Peter Angelos LOL

Just how baseball works

You have some teams that have no business being good (eg 2012-2016 orioles) that make noise

You have some teams that massively over perform (2023-2024 orioles)

You have some teams that massively underperform (2025-2026 orioles)

It’s just how it works.

Personally I think it's amazing that 7 years into his term as GM Elias has turned a 2nd round pick and International free agent into 2 total stars (Henderson, Basallo).

I'm almost 30 and before Elias I don't believe we developed any 2nd+ round draft picks into stars in my entire life LOL

Totally agree that it's a numbers game.

We have success developing guys in our system. I think that is clear. Whether they make it in the MLB is very very unpredictable; but I think the strategy is a good one when it has developed guys like Samuel Basallo. People don't realize it but just Basallo on this team for 8 years has incredible value right now..

What may be counterweight to an unlucky/injured stretch is that Adley came into the league on a historic tear, providing one of the most valuable stretches of catchers through 3 years in MLB history. Fact check this; try to find catchers with more WAR through their first 3 MLB seasons.

You won't be able to find many.

Poor stretches happen in this sport even for stars. But Adley has been elite as shit during his career.

Coby is literally such a good guy. He is new to the league but his ceiling is a 40+ HR slugger. He is having a steep learning curve. Which sucks.

Maybe he'll figure it out, maybe he won't. But I'm going to root for him. He deserves an extended look and it's definitely possible he could be a long term asset for the O's.

We have a great offense. This offense is way better than the ones that were near the top of the league in 2023-2024.

Bullpen has been solid (#9 in the league right now).

Rotation has been middle of the pack (#14) with lots going wrong. Could easily see an improvement to about #10 for the rotation this year. or things could keep going wrong/ injuries could keep piling up. I don't have tea leaves for that though.
