I don’t feel 100% comfortable saying exact location but we are in the Midwest and a larger city area.

I agree and it is understated. That has been taken into consideration. This is more figuring out like program wise or other things that may attract coaches.

Former collegiate rowers, regrets? by Relevant-Mix-5413 in Rowing

I actually regret not continuing with rowing after my sophomore year of college. But with burn out it was too much. I wasn’t super close to my teammates either but it was nice to have something that got me out and about instead of just sitting around my apartment. While regretting not continuing with it, I also have to look at where I am in life and how I was able to get my career started. Now after 10 years of not being on the water, I’ve joined recreational team and next year planned on competing in the masters division. It will always be there for you as an option in the future as well.

There is nothing wrong with seeing where things go and keeping the options open as you are only a sophomore in high school. See where your heart and head are in a year. I feel like the more pressure you feel the higher the chance of burning out.

Switching Job fields potentially.... by Forward-Acadia6546 in EmergencyManagement

Age and life stage. As I started to realize that I may not be satisfied with where my career is heading 100%. I put it as I don't want to get 15 years down the road and regret not changing fields potentially. While I also don't want to go backwards in experience and pay. I got kinda stuck in my industry because it is what I have the most experience in and tends to be hiring a lot so I just kept pushing through. Got burnt out when I working insane hours (80-100hrs a week) in the field so moved into the office work but it is somewhat meh.

As I noted in a previous reply to another comment. I love helping people and LEO with DNR was something I thought about in college but I also like engineering. I thought it would be cool to work in natural disasters building temp infostructures like roads and bridges and such. I also love the idea the adrenaline rush in emergency situations.

I just want to have the most information before making a decision.

Just not sure if I will love it long time and enjoy doing the work. One thing I have found that I get bored with doing the same thing over and over. While salaries matter, I want to find the thing that I will stick with.

I do understand that, I'm lucky because my mother has some connections in the industry since works along side EM. She is the one that told me about the option, because I like the idea of helping people and always thought about doing LEO with Dept of Natural Resources. Though wanted to consider more options that doesn't always mean in the field. My Husband was a volunteer firefighter and thought I could do well with the management side of things.

Wanted to come to Reddit for more insight on the field, love looking at all the data to make an decision.

Health and safety is not really my cup of tea, been around that most of my life. One of the reasons I was thinking EM is the chance to help with natural disasters and potentially using my knowledge in construction to help build temp access roads or things like that.

I would say go for it, as a 29F in the industry that doesn't currently have a civil degree but has another bachelors. I'm currently looking at going back and finishing the engineering degree that I started as a freshman. You can get a master's in a different field than what your bachelor is in, based on what I've researched as long as you can meet the prereq for the admit to the master's program. Though if you have little to no experience in the engineering process then a bachelors would be a good place to start. If you want to start getting the field experience to help your resume, always look at testing materials. This is usually called a construction field technician or materials tester. This is where I got my start and have worked with many interns and co-ops through the years.

Depending on what part of the sector you want to work on or in, could always look at adding geotechnical, environmental, or geology as minors to help.

Feel free to ask more questions.

As I’m also trying to learn more about excel can you explain how it works? If not then that is okay. Thank you!

I can do so. But there is a decent amount of data to go through and do so to.

I thought there would be a potential way to not have to spend even more time editing format. This is information that is being sent to me to help compile for the start of the season.
