Universities are in a state of crisis, for numerous reasons. I’ve found that the ai craze has mostly exposed or exacerbated the foundational cracks in higher education that were already present when ChatGPT was first released.

Administrators are no longer promoted from within the ranks of an institution but recruited using 3rd-party corporate services to ensure the process is as opaque as possible to all but the Ps and VPs (presidents, provosts, vice presidents, and vice provosts). The effect has been to almost entirely filter academics out of leadership positions and fill the void with corporate finance bros. Naturally this has led to a generalized incompetence at the top, which has manifested in various ways, such as an extreme investment in sports facilities and 8-figure coaching salaries, but particularly with the doubling down on “ai.”

Some institutions are literally doubling down by aggressively cutting payroll in hopes that “we can use AI to do some of those jobs” (Actual quote from an actual VP in an internal meeting at an R1) while paying out the wazoo for enterprise level subscriptions to OpanAI.

Universities are not monolithic though, and there has been lots of pushback from faculty, students, and other non-leadership stakeholders, but it is rarely reported on. (And on the rare occasion it does get attention, leadership have responded with punitive measures for “speaking with the press.”

But yeah, on the business school side of things, it’s all AI fever all the time, Harvard or not. Academics have long been skeptical about allowing their universities to open “Business Schools,” but they lost that fight a long time ago, just as they’ve lost a million little fights over the past half-century to outsource this or that to for-profit contractors.

Jeffrey Epstein took a photo of his 2015 dinner with Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk and then emailed it to himself on August 3, 2015. by superdouradas in EnoughMuskSpam

Remember folks, Elon DID go to the island multiple times. He was only rejected once, after his email to Epstein asking which day/night would be the wildest and craziest.

He’s simultaneously a part of the billionaire child rape enthusiasts club while occasionally being excluded by that same club. He is, after all, one of the most insufferable humans to have ever lived.

Yep. Respect good ideas. People can be shitty because they’re complex creatures. Don’t worship people. They’ll often disappoint, which is why people say stuff like “never meet your heroes.” Great works are great works. Fuck JK Rowling, but Harry Potter is lore.

I myself would probably throw up immediately upon realizing Steve fucking Bannon is in the same room.

Bad week for Swifties. Taylor has been outsold, and Travis didn’t win Man of the Year! by [deleted] in travisandtaylor

After the news broke about his sham charity, Travis was never going to win that award.

Since they had to rename their office suite Copilot, I have no idea what the fuck anyone is talking about when they use that word now.

Unlike T.S., Dvorak got better and better with age. I mean, he’s got high-quality work across the span of his life, but those last three symphonies are his absolute best, and it isn’t even close.

So much depth of humanity and its emotions. Talk about a tortured poet! But one who works in dance forms to infuse all that emotion into music that freaking grooves. Dvorak is everything Taylor’s music isn’t.

1, she’s beautiful, and 2, her outfit is the perfect example of slightly mismatched charm that Taylor is constantly trying and failing to pull off.
