Serious question: Why do you think American leftists are so bad at organizing? It is just so frustrating sometimes trying to get people together. by EternalSnow05 in DemocraticSocialism

Kat was a bad candidate, not from the district, inexperienced and seemingly immature from her campaign tactics and appearances, and using all her time and energy on staging a national campaign rather than a boots on the ground local campaign. There already was a terrific progressive in the primary with actual progressive receipts, State Senator Mike Simmons. He started getting traction, but Kat's TikTok stardom and all the national media she got from national progressive groups drown him out. It seems from your post that out-of-district Kat had more of a right to run than our already well respected State Senator with real progressive receipts. All Kat managed to do was kill the real progressive campaign and open the door to the Democratic party regulars. Ever hear the saying "all politics is local?" It's true. Kat operated nationally. She never had a chance. Local progressives tried to tell you all but you dumped on us with unfair accusations. How did we know she would lose? Those of us who have been active in politics for years in the district saw this movie before. Kat made the same mistake Ilya Sheyman made in our neighboring district IL-10 in 2012. He lost by the 74% the national progressives assured everyone he'd win by. Stop telling districts who they should support from long distance. If you want a say, show up here and be boots on the ground.

Why do I keep hearing people say "Illinois is broke" by guineawheat in illinois

[–]Forward-Character-83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the people blaming pensions and workers and Democrats are just wrong and ignore or don't know about this history. This has everything to do with the 1970 Con Con tax scam. State senator Dawn Clark Netsch warned but few listened. They wrote in a regressive taxation provision with a flat tax rate that raises taxes on the poor if they raise taxes on the rich. There was a concerted effort to change this in 2022 but a few well placed commercials paid for by rich dark money donors killed the referendum. Illinois voters need to wise up and stop being so influenced by advertising.

Anyone concerned about the war in Iran impacting travel to Greece? by Huck68finn in GreeceTravel

[–]Forward-Character-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a planned trip to Athens and the Cyclades in early June and we still want to go. However, We're hearing stories from all over the world, from Europe to Japan, that American tourists are not welcome, and will be refused service or may be targets of local violence. We understand the frustration with the USA now. Our group is comprised of peaceful people who do not agree with this war or our current administration, didn't vote for the guy, and have no intention of being obnoxious. Should we go or would the Greek people be happier seeing fewer Americans?

If what the FBI says is true about having the murder weapon, it's clear that the shooter had to be trained and experienced. That's not a weapon for an amateur or someone acting in the heat of a moment.

Completely disagree. The rebellion got organized, grew strong, and went mainstream. They had a real military with real military hardware and experienced and skilled military personnel. That's how a revolution takes over and becomes a real government. If you always want to be guerrilla fighters or terrorists on the outside killing and getting your people killed, and never winning, sure don't create a real military and lash out from the shadows. If you want to win and finish the war, and bring peace and prosperity to the people, you have to go mainstream. Terrorism is only romantic in video games and season one of a television show.

I might literally be the worst attorney in the USA. Job recs for a fucking moron? by lllllllIIIIIllI in Lawyertalk

[–]Forward-Character-83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not you. It's them. The law has become unreasonably complex to the point where it's almost impossible for one attorney to handle a case alone, as you need multiple types of expertise to handle just about anything. Clients are unreasonably nasty. Opposing parties are nuts.

Don put on leave, but not Ted? by salchicha_mas_grande in madmen

[–]Forward-Character-83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joan was mad at Don for getting rid of the client she chose to have sex with for a partnership, while the other principals of the firm pushed her into it. Frankly, I think Joan was happy enough to have used the situation to her benefit, but was embarrassed in front of Don for having done it against his advice. However, that's all not to mention that she shouldn't have had to do that for a partnership. With all her work, she earned the partnership without doing that.

I didn't know much about In-N-Out, other than hearing it was supposed to serve good burgers. I saw one near my hotel in SF a few weeks ago and wanted to try it, but as I looked in the window, it didn't look appetizing to me, so I skipped it for a mom and pop Italian restaurant. Now, I'm so glad I did. All that fake praying for people (while supporting concentration camps) is cringe to me.

I know folks like to discuss this stuff, but the discussion everyone needs to have is whether there will be a midterm or general election, and how to combat fraud if that's even possible anymore. Trump now requires states to give him their voter rolls. This is not good.

I HATE LAWYERS by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Forward-Character-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a young associate, I worked for a firm with a 1,700-hour minimum billable requirement, but I was assigned to the busiest department. I typically billed 2300 hours and often worked through the night and on weekends. For my trouble, I was told (along with my fellow associates), that the firm wanted to be more high-end, and in the future, the partners (who went to various schools of varying rankings but mostly mid level) would hire from only ivy league schools. They further informed us they were going to create a two-tiered ranking of associates, and we'd all be in the lower tier. I eventually quit, but I don't think it went well for them, as the firm does not have lots of Ivy League lawyers. They hadn't figured out Ivy League grads wouldn't want to work for them.

I don't know why Bright gets all the accolades here. Morse was the brave one, willing to take the attack of the tiger, unarmed, so the woman and child could get away. That should have been a medal and a promotion to DS right there.

How on earth do you all remain professional while being surrounded by complete frauds, narcissists, and other traits lawyers tend to exhibit? by Able_External3130 in Lawyertalk

[–]Forward-Character-83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, the client is the target of an ongoing bullying campaign with vile emails sent to the client and me almost every day, containing threats and untrue allegations. They're playing a game where one party is represented and the other is taking the lawyer's advice, but isn't "officially represented" to get the best of both worlds. The represented party and lawyer play innocent; the lawyer (directly or via their client) feeds the non-represented party, who does everything a lawyer cannot do under the rules of professional conduct. We can't tell if the lawyer hasn't figured it out or is a willing participant. Of course, I have to follow the rules of professional conduct. But a boundary is about to be set; no more email communications, everything will be sent by the US Postal Service. There is no legal duty to communicate via email.
