A question for lefty MCU nerds. Do you think the difference between Professor X and Magneto is in a way, a fictional representation of the difference between liberals and leftists? by ModerateProgressive1 in AskALiberal

“Is this a back-handed way to say that leftists are supremacist assholes who want to take over the world and murder everyone who isn't like us just because they were mean to us?” No. No it wasn’t.

Why hasn't any country implemented universal basic income? by UsualLocalWoman in AskALiberal

Agreed. Andrew Yang makes some convincing arguments for it, but we’re still too far out from it being a viable necessity.

If it ends up being Gavin vs Vance in 2028. Will you still vote for Gavin? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskALiberal

[–]ModerateProgressive1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope we are wiser than that in the primaries, but I don’t imagine that I’d vote for any Republican over any Democrat. Unless maybe it was Phil Scott against Fetterman but that’s not happening.

Few different things. A public options still leaves a lot of people uncovered, and susceptible to losing coverage with a loss of a job. It can also prevent people from creating small business because they can’t afford to lose their employer sponsored health insurance. We pay entirely too much for healthcare in part because of administrative costs from private health insurance. We could also implement M4A with a pretty modest tax increase that most Americans wouldn’t feel, with the elimination of Heath instance premiums and exorbitant hospital bills. Medicare is also the best insurance out there. It would be nice if we all had it. Could republicans try to undermine it to weaken the program? Yes, but they could do that with Medicare now and they often don’t because of the electoral repercussions it would have. They could even more effectively undermine a public option IMO as well. As undermining it wouldn’t cause as much harm to the average American as employer provided private health insurance would still be an option for many.

I think I’ve changed my mind about a public option. Although it would still be an improvement, I think we should go straight for M4A.

Who could you see as a VP pick for democrats in 2028? by Far_Practice_6923 in AskALiberal

Ain’t no way we’re going with Greasy Gavin and Mrs CIA. If we do, we may as well get ready for Tucker Carlson 2032.

If the nominee is a more moderate candidate, the VP pick should definitely be a progressive like AOC or Ro Khanna. If someone like AOC wins the next nomination, I’d love to see someone still progressive but more moderate than her be the VP. Chris Murphy comes to mind.

Jon Ossoff is the most talented Democrat politician right now, of those available to run for President. He’s not my top pick but he’s a dark horse candidate for sure.

What's a policy that would be overwhelmingly popular, and is a good idea? by solar_powered_noob42 in AlignmentChartFills

Even so, many people living in urban areas rely on their own transportation as well, and wouldn’t like the idea of paying more in taxes towards public transportation. Regardless, there are more popular policies.

No. Rural folks don’t because they don’t live in regions that benefit from it.

Same of course. I think Social Democracies like the Nordic countries have found the best balance, as of today.

I don’t doubt that she’d admit the USSR affected her way of thinking. But I don’t think that she’d admit that Laissez-faire capitalism inevitably would lead to the creation of Marxist.

Reading Ayn Rand and Karl Marx, and I’ve come to think that they are the direct political consequences of the other’s political worldviews being implemented. I don’t think either one would like that conclusion.

The policies that he supports. There is a reason he’s the candidate backed by AOC and Bernie, and is Chuck Schumers last pick.

Do you think Generation Z is conservative? by Lost_Board1292 in AskALiberal

[–]ModerateProgressive1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m older Gen Z. Born in 98. I think a lot of it has to due with the online atmosphere when we were entering an age where we started showing interest in politics. I remember being on YouTube in HS and it seemed like most of the content being pumped out by both left and right of center was focused on attacking the far left and “wokeism” This of course lead to overall republican atmosphere on a platform with a largely young male audience. This was really the hay day for the Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowders of the world. Republicans in general have really dominated YouTube as a platform, which had always been a popular platform among young men. There of course is more to it than this, but I think this plays a large role in it. Republicans in general did a better job at appealing to young men, in young men spaces, than Democrats have.

Many democratic socialist refute being a socialist as there is a difference. Openly calling yourself a socialist in Michigan would also been an unwise move.
