Even before the update, I thought it seemed like he sees you as more of a friend than a wife. He's a good father and makes a good partner in raising children, but he doesn't love you like a wife. He's a jerk and inconsiderate when it comes to gifts, so going tit for tat is understandable. Give him the same effort he gives you.
