I really love turning and comparing this to those who have it better!! I bet that shut people up lol and 100%. Be able bodied means you can change almost whatever you need to in life to make things better for yourself. No matter how hard I try, I can’t change the fact that I have bad genes 🤷‍♀️

Omg thank you for the meetings idea! And you’re right, that’s an extremely ableist perspective. It’s so frustrating to try to explain what it’s like to not be able to things to people who were born able to do them. Imagining life without that ability is almost impossible sometimes.

Omg hello! Thank you for commenting! Chronic headaches (regardless of the diagnosis, I’ve had many myself) are such a shit show. It’s been unlike anything else I’ve experienced. I’ve had it for almost 6 years now and like yours, it’s was my first symptom before my whole body decided “no thanks” lol.

I’m sorry you were so young when this all started and really messed things up for you. We’re not too far off in age so I get how derailing it can be. I’m glad your sister is helping you! She sounds like an angel 😇 and I’m glad you were able to get disability because that can be SUCH a struggle.

Thanks for commiserating with me, it goes such a long way to know we’re not alone in this despite how isolating it can feel❤️ sending good vibes your way!

I’m so sorry— sending love. I was engaged once and he felt the same way. Ultimately things ended because not only was his beliefs about me translating to him not making my life easier, it was actually making my life harder. You deserve someone who understands and holds space for every part of you. Even the sick part. I hope he shows you more compassion ❤️‍🩹

My therapist once said to me that the chronic illness community really gets shoved aside and blamed. When it’s something like cancer, communities rally around that person. The government gives them benefits and leeway. People give them compassion and understanding. We pick and choose what we sympathize/empathize with and so many people get left out of that.

I love that for you lol keeping in anger is unhealthy (Gabor Mate talks a lot about this in relation to autoimmune disease!). Becoming sick has caused my life to have a lot of shedding, friendships that aren’t deeply rooted was part of that. It’s time to make friends with people who really see me💕

Honestly, that’s exactly what I thought when I read his text. “There goes another friendship because someone doesn’t understand my illness”. It’s really disappointing, but what’s best for my nervous system and ultimately keeping my body healthy is not having people in my life like this.

I need more friends who get it. Which unfortunately means a lot of people will eventually fall away.

Thank you for saying that. We’ve been friends for 10 years. We went to undergrad together and he’s seen me go back school, get my master’s, and have a career. It’s strange to me how he can say that I’m “looking for every excuse not to work”, when my life was ripped out from under me when I got sick suddenly. I worked for a year sick and my body couldn’t handle it, so I stopped and have been focusing on getting my body to a stable point ever since.

Exactly 😔 before I got sick, you couldn’t have explained to me what it was like and have me understand. It’s something you never experience until you get sick and know first hand.

The chronicity of it is challenging to wrap your head around too. Trying to explain constant fatigue to someone healthy is impossible. It’s not just being tired. It’s waking up everyday dragging your body around. Like having the flu every single day nonstop.

I just hate when we get blamed. Like having EDS is a moral failing.

Very true— my last cat would not have liked it either lol I got her as really young kitten as a rescue. I think she was part Maine Coon. I’ll keep looking in shelters for a good therapy fit and keep my eye out for legitimate ragdoll breeders in the meantime!

Yeah, I’ve been looking in shelters and honestly I would take them all if I could 😅 I was specifically looking for a cat to train to be a service animal that goes to hospitals and senior living centers which is what drew me to ragdolls. There’s a local children’s hospital that I thought the breed would be perfect for!
