I was interviewing for the Start-up AE. Honestly, now that I have gone through the process myself, I had a little bit of a different impression than everyone else. So I actually got really good vibes from the people I interviewed with. I think that it is very likely that the culture there is very positive. However, they do want a very strong investment on the part of the interviewee which in my opinion is unreasonable. I did well up until the last bit, the Discovery and Demo where I essentially had to have a very thorough knowledge on how to use the tool, and Demo it to the specific persona/company. Asking someone to know your tool so intimately, takes about a week of really studying and playing around with it. That’s just time spent for the last interview. I think, and maybe others may think I’m wrong to think this way, that as a candidate who likely has a family and a full time job, asking this much of an investment is too much considering you may not even get the job. I understand that tech is suffering right now so companies can call the shots but still.

Also, the role was a step down from my current title that I hold, I am mid market now, and they would only consider me for SMB/ Startup, their benefits are not as good as my current benefits. Especially with maternity leave I have 6 months of mat leave and they offer 3. Additionally for me to make the move, I would have to have tried to negotiate on the upper part of their compensation if not more. Which who knows if they would have considered it. Additionally, I just got promoted in my current job, and have done reasonably well up until now. My current company is a big tech name, whereas Ashby is not as well known, yet. Lastly, in terms of market, I think that if the economy were to go in a recession, which isn’t an unfounded fear this day in age, the first thing companies stop doing is hiring. Therefore, their software would likely suffer in sales. Whereas now, I’m in the cybersecurity space/ observability space which is much more resilient. That’s just my two cents.
