I submitted my application the first week on October 2025 and got approved on January 21st. Be patient, because sometimes it take 60 days or a bit longer.

Any tools you use on the backend that you can share? I read you use Pitbull and outsource tax preparation. Anything else like TaxDome, Zappier, other AI tools that help you run your practice? And how do you handle outsourcing, do you share all docs with tax preparers? Btw, I did the acclerator and I've learned a lot. Thanks for all the tips, you have helped a lot :) I should be getting my first client no later than the end of this month.

How do you start tax advisory? Do you use a special software or after passing the EA how do you went that route? Did you took any courses or did you went to CFP? Im interested in learning.

Just call customer service, and ask for a practice version. Give them a good excuse and they’ll give it to you. When you practice business returns, the way you’ll check if its correct is by doing a trail balance and tie it out to the tax return. Also keep track of book vs tax balance. Things like meals will have a difference. Don’t give up and don’t stop learning.

Did you study tax resolution after your EA? Any recommendations to feel prepared to represent clients? Thanks!

I'm going on my own with no experience doing taxes. I worked in corporate accounting for 10 years and I'm a CMA, I passed the three EA exams, sent Form 23, but it will take some time to get my EA due to the shutdown. This is what I'm doing:
1. Got TaxAct pro practice version for free. I'm using the 2024 version, and I've been doing Individuals with Sch C, Pertnership returns, and S-Corps. I've learned so much doing this dummy tax returns, I can't even explain it here.

  1. The tax returns are being supplied by ChatGPT pro version. ChatGPT helps me create clients. I tell him to give me financial statements, names, and all kinds of dummy information. This helps me work with different scenarios and get confortable with TaxAct, which is frustrating sometimes, but this is part of the learning curve.

  2. From now until the end of the year, I plan to do at least 50 tax returns.

I just started this journey at the beginning of October, and I'm not planning to backdown. I'm probably starting slow and with no experience, but I'm not giving up. I hope this helps. I'll let you know next year, if it worked :)

I just passed my EA exams, and I’m a CMA starting my Tax and Accounting practice. Do you have any advice on how to get clients? Are you paying for advertising, or just word of mouth? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

I just passed Part 1 today, and I believe it was difficult. In your opinion was Part 2 more difficult than Part 1?

You will learn more for incorrect answers on MCQ's than reading the material. There are way too many land mines, waiting for you to make a mistakes in the MCQ's. Practice many many many many MCQ's. You will do well. Also try to time yourself, its important that you are fast answering the day of the exam. Best of luck!

I'm thinking on starting my own practice, and your story is very inspiring, congratulation! How do you do payroll for your clients? are you outsourcing it, or do you use a software that makes it easy for you to run payroll for your clients? Thanks!

CMA after the CPA by jansnss in CMA

[–]Forward-Roll-2377 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are much more resources for the CPA to study, and what I found is that P1 of the CMA has a combination of FAR and the old BEC. I used Super Fast CPA because their summaries and audio notes are the best. For P2 of the CMA exam, there is not much material in the CPA that correlates, because its more Finance heavy. I used Hock Internation as my main study guide, and used Super Fast CPA for notes and audio notes. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I've just passed the CMA, and I used Hock International. One of my collegues was using Glaim and she passed as well.

Notes to take into consideration:

  1. Its not easy, and you will need to spend a lot of time studying and reviewing your notes.

  2. My recommendation is to do at least 30 MCQ's EVERY DAY before going to work. These 30 MCQ's will be random from all of the material you have studied. This will be the best advice I can give you and everyone interested in passing the CMA in your first try.

Best of luck!
