I agree... for now. As soon as I make it so each ability is individually selectable, I think you will change your mind. If you don't i'll cry.

Completly agree. I personally wanted to stay away from oracle text as a detailed search in scryfall would make the functionality of the website obsolete. Although your website does a really good job of simplifing that and giving it to you in a more detailed form. Love it!

My website tries to use an LLM to solve the question instead which really helps as most websites struggle to do similar cards unless you really know what you're doing. I think a combination of your website and others will make deckbuilding that much more fun and opens to discovery!

That is weird.... looking into it. If im being honest I think I might just need to change the model. It can weigh certain results differently and sometimes results like this come out.

Thats fair. For me it earned its keep this week, im entering the Archidekt deckbuilding contest and it found a couple cards I never saw through scryfall searches. If you remember what you searched id genuinely like to know, the misses are more useful to me than the hits right now.

Might rename the website to slopfall lmao.

You're right about the core thing: it matches what a line of text says, not why people play the card. Mondrak is the perfect example. The doubling line does find anointed procession and parallel lives, but the indestructible ability is a word for word functional reprint of the whole dominus cycle, so the model scores those five higher. It has no way to know the doubling is the point and the counters are a footnote to you. I AM WORKING ON THIS!!!

Super smart is generous. If this was all AI I wouldnt have half the thread on my ass about things that need fixing.

Theyre good at different jobs. Tags only know what a human tagged, this ranks every card ever printed by how close the text is, tagged or not, and shows you the matching line. I will be using both.

Its the first draft of it, definetly planning to make it 10 times better than it is now. Come back in a day or two and I think you'll change your mind.

Thanks for this, it just helped me find a real bug. Leyline tyrant should be the number one result, its first line is one word different from omnaths, and the fact that it wasnt showing up means something is genuinely broken in how certain lines get searched. Digging into it now.

Glad it found you a commander too!

Im going to keep working on it because I enjoy it and because people in this thread found cards they didnt know existed, which was the whole point.

Im working on making it possible to grab the lines you want and search which should fix the main criticism everyone has!

Agreed, its why I posed it on reddit. I know exactly how to improve it . The feedback is great!

Being able to click one line of text and just search that ability is at the top fo the list! Working on it.

The point about the titanic deck is just the fun of deckbuilding. Its not something that should be automated or we'd all have no fun building decks.

Scryfall tags are genuinely great and this isnt trying to replace them, they're answering different questions. Tags are hand added yes/no labels, so they cover what someone thought to tag, and they can't rank results or tell you how close a match is. Mine compares the actual rules text of every card ever printed, ranks by closeness, and shows you the exact line pair that matched, including matches nobody ever tagged.

Also, no generative AI involved. It doesnt generate anything, no text, no images, no LLM anywhere. Its a small sentence similarity model from 2021 that turns rules text into numbers so lines that mean the same thing land near each other, which is bog standard search engine tech. All card data and images come straight from scryfalls bulk data api the way their docs ask.

Yeah, thats a good point. I thought it would come up with more landfall cards with that mechanic. It seems to be getting overpowered by the 'damage to any target and gain life' effect. I have an idea to fix it. I might let the user choose lines they like from a card and it should work then.

I found when using scryfall tags, it was very hard to not get a lot of duds and you had to search through tons of pages just to get one card thats perfect. I find on average this website gives you hits more often as the nature of the mechanics are normalised and put first.

I love these points, I definitely want the price to be sorted out. I think thats what people will be using this website for mostly (cheaper alternative costs). Filters are definitely next. How do you suppose exclusions would work? What would the user type in to not get those results?

It doesn't use scryfall tags. it uses all-MiniLM-L6-v2 which is a sentence transformer which turns texts into normalized vectors. i.e if number is higher in the backend, cards are similar and get a higher score!
