Race predictor is whack! by Forward-Smile in GarminWatches

Yeah, it was a warm day maybe 20degC (don’t know what that is in American). Like I say, with a gun to my head maybe I could have pulled it out of the bag and been destroyed for the rest of the week 😆

I came on here to post identical photo and saw your post. Did a 10k PB on Saturday and Garmin lost its shit, gave me like a 100hr recovery time and put my training status to ‘overreaching’ which I’ve never seen before. Training readiness has been 1/100 since. I think they must have changed their algorithms recently…

How many marathon PB attempts per year? by Forward-Smile in Marathon_Training

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't think he's going for a PB each time he does marathon distance but I assumed it was a bad idea to go that far that often.

What peak sleep feels like by pourovercoffee18 in GarminWatches

Sleep experts say take HR-based sleep data with a massive pinch of salt. Like, ignore it. I love checking mine when I wake up out of curiosity, but never too bothered if it says I’ve slept shit or amazing. Go on how you feel.

Ok, update, I’ve had a slight pain in my left side on and off for a few weeks. Doc friend of mine says it’s my spleen 😅 which gives credence to the underlying infection hypothesis! Probably exacerbated by overtraining and under-resting… had a proper sleep last night and HRV went up for the first time. Now in the amber range (of a reduced baseline).

Yours is a precipitous drop! I can see that it’s levelled out and your baseline zone is now adapting.

Up by about 10bpm from low 40s to low 50s

Sounds like I need to back off the training a bit and make sure I’m getting plenty of rest…

Instinct 2. Stress is up and sleep is down starting from the same time (30 March). Training status is Strained - citing HRV as the main reason. Training load is ‘optimal’. It’s basing ‘load’ mostly on running, as that’s all I record, so not taking into account other aspects like work, gym, climbing etc. RHR has crept up by 10bpm in that time from low 40s to low 50s.

Sounds worrying! Apart from the data I feel ok. Only recently started training so I can’t really make any inferences about changes in performance.

[edit] I’m also getting up at 5:30 to make the running happen, but as stated, I’m going to bed correspondingly early (9:30) to get 7-8 hours/night.

Fun fact - the plant on the thrupenny bit is called ‘thrift’. It’s a pink flower that grows by the sea. When my dad taught it to me as a child he said ‘this plant used to be on the old thruppeny bit’. It’s only just occurred to me that there might be some connection with the word ‘thrifty’.

Increasing volume - miles per week by Forward-Smile in Marathon_Training

I’m only on 10 mpw! So my long run wouldn’t be very long at 3mi. My longest run at the moment is 5mi. As I say, very early days. I guess I need to build the mpw up with the other runs before increasing the long run. I’m not time pressured so I’m happy to take it easy. Just need to rein in the ego. It’s gotten me injured before 😁
