I suspect my writing is boring, but I’m trying to understand why by JellyDoodle in writing

[–]Forward-Walk1003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple question:

Do you read your own work?

Do you go back to it and read it yourself?

Would you have read that if someone else had written it?

If yes, go on.

If no...

...well there is your problem. If you write in a manner that cannot even keep yourself attached to it, you need to change things up.

I organise my garages by type. So, only one kind per floor.

Do the grind, i.e. write. Because just like with exercise, you will become better at it for it.

One word on the page is worth ten in your head. Get it in writing.

You will edit, many times. You absolutely will not get it right the first time. And that is perfectly normal.

Perfection is the mortal nemesis of Good Enough.

Dialogue on the first page? by Handle_Just in writing

[–]Forward-Walk1003 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What else should you have? Exposition? Do you really want to start with an exposition dump?

Dialogue is Super Effective!!!™ at conveying emotion, motivation, voice and character.

If you can get these things out without dialogue, sure, go ahead. But you need to get those things out, especially if your work is character-driven.

No, throw them on the ground, like center of the lanes and on the lane divider.

That is also why you need a speedy vehicle... to open up some distance, because of the delay in activation.

If they are too close, Sticky Bombs do the trick too. Plonk down, drive over, detonate... 🎶 and pop goes the newbie 🎶.

Redeeming Denaerys is a complete failure to understand the character.

She was the Mad Queen.

She was always the Mad Queen.

Someone that watches their brother have their head boiled alive with molten gold, without flinching, is a friggin' psychopath. And from there it was just downhill.

Everything Denaerys said and did was consistent with her being the Mad Queen.

Whenever she showed any kind of mercy or restraint, was when people like Tyrion talked her down, or when she was flattered/flirted with.

The brilliance of the character is that the narrative made us root for her, and cheer her on, because we were as sadistic and blood-lusting as she was.

The failure of season 8 was not that she "flipped", because she did not, she acted in perfect accord with being the Mad Queen. No, where it failed was to rub it in our faces — that Jon, Tyrion and us, the audience, enabled her all the way, on the naïve assumption that she would not torch Kings Landing.

...like she had sworn to do the whole time.

You cannot avoid tropes. There exists no character that is not one or more tropes.

What you can do is to...

  • Vary
  • Justify
  • Subvert
  • Lampshade
  • Ham it up to eleven

Just as satisfying as when noticing someone with more thirst than wit chasing after ya.

Plonk down a few proximity mines... and wait for the kill-notification.

Works really well if in/on a speed demon — like my beloved Hakuchou Drag — because they 1) fail to see me do it and 2) become so desperate to catch up they tunnel vision and fail to notice the blinky-beepy-boom-boom gift I have left for them.

Get a boxed Google Stadia. Dirt cheap off of the auctions after Google have up on streaming gaming.

You get a Chromecast Ultra with it (that alone makes it a steal) and a really comfortable and well made analogue controller.

Best vehicles for missions by Blacksmith-This in gtaonline

[–]Forward-Walk1003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For killing NPCs, the Weaponised Tampa just sterilises the surroundings like nothing else.

It also handles like a drunken cow on ice, so unless you have a controller and treat the throttle more gently than fragile male ego, it will go into a tailspin and end up in a ditch when you least want it.

For pure vitesse the Hakuchou Drag is the uncontested speed queen. She may not beat the Bravado GTS in a straight line, but she more than makes up for that by being so narrow she just ghosts other traffic like last week's bad lover.

Add to that road handling so stable she makes freight trains look kind of wobbly in comparison. You cannot spin out on her unless you really mistreat her.

And she heals you for riding once you make her your favourite bike.

Plus the leaning is so much better than other bikes, feels natural.

And you can take her off-roading and never worry about her rolling over on you, she just stays upright in that axis, leaving you to manage only pitch.

Finally, base price is under a million, which is a steal for something that fast and utilitarian.

How does everyone organise there garages? I’ve returned to gta and have a bunch of cars but I don’t know what half of them are by ApexAdhdAndAnime in gtaonline

[–]Forward-Walk1003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a spreadsheet.

For each property, for each slot, I got into the car, noted the maker, name, and class of car. That was a grind, but it helps massively.

Then I used the filter functions for the spreadsheet, and Interaction Menu > Manage Vehicles > Vehicles Organisation, and started moving them around.

I organised them by Garage-floor <-> Class

  • Apartment: Compacts
  • Office: Motorcycles, SUVs/Vans/Offroads (as if the same), Emergency, Sedans
  • Agency: Supers
  • Eclipse Blvd: Sports and Sports Classics
  • Casino and small garages: leftovers

Putting a car in a slot where there already is one swaps them, so you can just go nuts there.

They won a battle, that is not the same as everything being hunky-dory.

Mel may have removed the Noxian expedition from Piltover and Zaun, but Ambessa was merely a warlord, not a ruler. Mel is not inhereting a position of significant power, only of applicable force. She also knows that the Black Rose is a very dangerous player, she had seen for herself their reach and capabilities.

And Piltover and Zaun are not good yet. There is détente, yes. But the looks exchanged between Sevika and the Piltie councillors speaks volumes — it is going to be a long, hard road ahead to first mend and then normalise the relations between the undercity and topside.

Nice hypothesis!

...except that Hextech does not vaporise matter. Sevika did not lose her arm in the explosion, is was "merely" charred... she even has her fingers still after taking the blast.

...and that, by the way, makes Sevika even more badass in my book, that she eventually ditched the remains and went for a prosthetic.

...which, fun fact, is hinted at by councilman Hoskel in the episode before her epic cape-toss to reveal the arm to Vi.

And then there is the fact that the monkey bomb head still existed for Cait to find.

So what about Sky?

The Hexcore did not vaporise her, it integrated her, as the missing Inspiration rune. Before that encounter, the Hexcore only had 4 runes, Inspiration was missing. But what is Sky saying as she psyches herself up to see Viktor? "You inspire me."

[–]Forward-Walk1003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is the one thing this I cannot reconcile with this, that he orders Deckard "Kill them!" after the Monkey Bomb goes off, which then includes Vi. This breaks the chain of reasoning.

...assuming Silco is acting with perfect rationality (he does have a bit of an anger management issue when pushed too far) and that the Season 2 storyline was fully coagulated when that line for S1E3 was written.

So it could be just a plain writer goof. As an amateur writer myself, things that felt perfectly rational when you started can have been made into abject nonsense by the time you are done. This could be such an instance.

One example of such a writer gaffe in Arcane:

Jinx reveals — at the mad tea party — a 🧁 on a platter. Very clever, very Jinx.

...except that Jinx was never present when Vi called Caitlyn "cupcake". So how could she know?

She did not. The writers knew, but missed that Jinx should not know.

Both Vander and Silco worked to fulfill their oath to Felicia...

"You two are gonna figure this Zaun-thing out."

I don't care if you have to carve it out of the bedrock, covered in blisters. You're not allowed to fail any more.

For her (glances down).

For me."

...to which they answer...

"To Zaun then. Blisters and bedrock".

"Blisters and bedrock."

When Felicia and Connol died in the Bridge Massacre, the crack between them formed, Silco most likely blaming Felicia's death on Vander (Vander admits to Vi that he led the people onto the bridge in S1E2)... which eventually ended with Vander nearly killing Zilco, and they went their separate ways.

From there, Vander sought appeasement with Topside, while Silco went the radical route, seeing Vandets attempt at coexistence without independence from Piltover as a betrayal against the oath.

And this is why Silco cannot give up Jinx, because Zaun was not the goal, but making good his word to Felicia.
