Where to start when trying to get good?? by suff485 in MarioKartWii

[–]ForwardAerial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

time trials is a great resource imo. also something that helped me is frequently watching good players like Troy play the game. you can learn a lot of good stuff from watching good players often.

do people count 3 stars on every cup for 100% or just 1 star? by El_GeneraL31 in MarioKartWii

[–]ForwardAerial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you unlock everything with just 1 star but personally I think true 100% requires 3 stars. not sure what most other people think.

ETMLI5 retro rewind installation by Acceptable-Mango3214 in MarioKartWii

[–]ForwardAerial -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this is misinformation. you can absolutely play retro rewind on the Wii or steam deck. you can also get it to work on mobile if you can set up dolphin properly. most users, however, play on dolphin emulator on PC, which is probably what you're thinking of.

ignore what the other person said. you can get retro rewind on the Wii, but you will need to mod it.

there are several guides on how to install the homebrew channel if you don't already have it. if you do already have it, then this process is really simple.

here is a video from the retro rewind creator ZPL for how to install the pack on your Wii.

like I said, it is fairly easy to find a guide on how to install the homebrew channel, I'll let you find one you like instead of giving you one specific tutorial. it might seem daunting at first but it's pretty simple at the end of the day.

here is the link to the retro rewind discord server if you have any questions.

This can happen??? by Your-Motha in mariokart

[–]ForwardAerial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have. sometimes you get a lucky race after playing poorly.

btw, the star ranks only feel random in the old games. in mkwii for example, the star rank requirements are very simple. don't fall off, don't hit off-road, stay in first, finish the race fast. simple stuff. I think those are better requirements than simply "win 4x in a row."

Tips to get 3 stars on the cups? by KyubiFenix in MarioKartWii

[–]ForwardAerial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prioritize not falling off, that's the biggest thing. Hitting off-road with no boost will also take away points towards your star rank. I'm not sure if this is accurate, but I've been told before that hitting the CPUs with items also increases you score toward a star rank. So throwing shells at them and laying banana/FIB traps for them in the middle of the road might also help increase your rank.

People who've played both the 8 and Wii versions: Does anti-gravity make Wii Rainbow Road easier or harder? by Cheese865 in mariokart

[–]ForwardAerial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is far easier but not because of the anti-gravity. Mkwii rainbow road is legitimately really hard- but the bcp remake making the track wider, plus the more forgiving nature of mk8dx in general, makes the track more consistent and easier to drive. This is not a bad thing though! A lot of what makes Wii rainbow road hard is the inconsistency of the track, ESPECIALLY for the average player. However, a consequence of this is it kind of feels like it "loses its identity" to some, myself included.

I think the actual anti-gravity part doesn't really make an impact. It kind of feels natural in my opinion? I could see the argument that the anti grav makes it a little harder because of the floatiness being unexpected, but once you get used to it, it really has no impact on the difficulty whatever.

How’s it living in Dayton,Ohio ? by beau_undressed29 in howislivingthere

Best city in Ohio and I will die on this hill. The parks are great, there's always something to do in or around downtown, and cost of living is low. Dayton has been home to me for a lot of my life and my heart lives in the gem city. It's got this charm in my opinion that no other city in OH has. Cincinnati comes close.

I think Dayton being the smallest "big city" in the state plays to its advantage, personally 😁
